    you did not have to open the clips on the new struts. they just snap on. your ment to only open clip when removing old struts from the vehicle.

      Thank you! You saved me from following that unnecessary, and potentially damage-inducing, step.

    Regular 3-Series E9X uses the 330N hood struts. E9X M3 uses lighter 200N hood struts.The hood struts are labelled with the BMW model and the force. Stabilus is the OE Manufacturer and the struts are $15/each vs BMW OEM at $50-70/each. You need a pick tool or super thin screw driver to pop the clip. But not on the new hood struts, since they just pop in. Install the bottom of the hood strut first, since the new parts are very stiff to compress. Same for the trunk struts.

    Thanks for the video. Can you just snap them on without pulling out retainer clip? I couldn't pull out clips and messed up a strut so I bought another one, and I just pushed them into the ball. It worked fine. Aren't they made to snap on without touching the top and bottom clips? Same applies when you take them out without touching the clips. Thanks.😢

      N54 Lord I never ran Hood struts when I had one awhile back (before the bmw) because I didn’t want to mess anything up when applying force when closing it lol

      Additionally my trunk is CF also but painted to match my car! Both make a difference in weight.

    Any way to edit the video? With all the strut replacements I've done, I've only needed to pull the clip to remove the struts.
    It just makes the install harder than it needs to be.
    To install them, you just push them on, and the clip slides onto the ball easily! 👍🏼

    Those little bottom springs doesn't come off so easily, and you working with you screwdriver 1 inch next to wiring harness. If you tool slips it's the easiest way to damage wire isolation. That's exactly what somebody has done in my car. Sometimes is just better to take some more time, screw off ball joint with the strut (very easy access from the bottom). Then put whole thing on the table where you have plenty of space with no wires and stuff around, just to play safely with your tools :)

    My car currently has no hood struts (bought it like that). I got new ones and tried to install them but discovered i don’t have the little ball joint in my engine bay that the strut attaches too. Any ideas on where i can buy one?

    Are the trunk struts supposed to lift up the trunk just like the hood lifts up? Because then all these struts are worn out in my car.

    • @HPAddict
      @HPAddict 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean should the trunk lift up on its own?

    • @s2foe
      @s2foe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BMW Fanatic make a DYI how to clean the engine.
      Some people recommend hot water. That can do damage to some electrical parts on the engine.
      Hope some time you do a video.
      But your engine looks killer.
