Another tip is to set a bowl of free candy that many people enjoy so if they want candy they can come and maybe also take a look at your items for sale
This is a wonderful tip! Thank you for sharing! I love the idea in investing a small amount into a bowl of candy, with a bigger return in mind! I'll definitely be using this tip at my next garage sale! 😁

My pet peeve is that if something isn't priced I bypass it. I want to know when I'm looking around what the price is. I don't want to have to ask.
No price....no sale! That is my motto as well.
In regards to the signs, don’t use the pre printed ones you suggest. They look too much like those For Rent signs and are often ignored. Spend a few dollars for bright fluorescent poster boards and black broad tip markers.
I love the idea about the flags. As far as organization, I agree. If I go to a garage sale, I rarely sort through the bins, but I will look through the hangers.
Yes, presentation and organization truly do make a big difference! Clothes hung up just look better, are easier to see a full view of and easier to grab and go! Thank you for your input! 😁
Yes a Lemonade Sale is good. I did it myself with my nabour and my brother and we made $78.50. With the choices of normal lemonage (NO SUGAR), Lemonade (SUGAR ADDED), Lemon Popsticuls (For the children), Fizzed Lemonade (ADDED SPARKILING WATER INSTED OF WATER). And then i priced the cups $1.5 (SMALL), $2 Large (I did $2 because there is no use buying a SMALLER one if you can buy a bigger one for 50c more). Then i did my deals like 3 smalls for $3.5 ($1 Cheaper), 3 Large for $4.5 ($1.5 Cheaper). It was an extra $1 for the fizzed lemonade because it is more expencive to make. Then i priced my popsicles at 50c (Small), $1 (Large). This encoriges to mother if she dosn't want her child to have sugar to have that insted. I'm very smart with these sorts of things. I hope you found this interesting.

another tip is to do a lemonade stand :)
also making dog treats because many people who come to yard sales have their dog with them, plus you could set out a water bowl to kinda lure customers walking their dogs to come and look at stuff... or set out something like a bowl of pretzels.
but i love this video it was very informative and your yard sale looks very neat and organized! nice stuff too especially the vases and the thing that says "keep calm and sparkle" I subbed :)!

Too many garage sales I went to had kids selling lemonade. The best was one that sold bottles of water. You can get a 42 pack at BJ's for $4-6 and sell the bottles $1 each. Also, it's great for health-concious or diabetic shoppers.
But somebody is gonna call the police on me🤭

The week before, everywhere we went, we told people there was a yard sale. We told all our friends at work. We put fliers on neighbors doors. We put pics on social media ahead of time.
Spreading the word ahead of time, that's a really good strategy! I am having another garage sale the second week of June so I will begin telling those that I know in a couple of weeks! Thank you for that! =)
Some tips I have are having your garage sale the beginning of the month because people have the most money that time I also like to donate the left over stuff or give it away for free on facebook

Very good tips! My grandparents had multiple garage sales every summer as their retirement income. They would buy things at auction and resell. This was before eBay. I grew up across the road and would spend many summer days hanging out, helping a bit, watching my grandparents chat with new and repeat customers. They were known in the area for their sales and well respected. I’m hoping to have my first sale this coming spring with the help of my 7 yr old son! He’s so excited! I’m going to try to add a bit of the flavor my grandparents did to their sale. Some of my fondest memories are their small old fridge filled with pop for 50 cents, a big coffee percolator and my grandma’s amazing baked cookies and bars for sale 😋 as well as the local AM station playing old classic country music. My grandma also would propagate house plants during the winter and pot them in old teapots and planters to sell. *Sigh* 😊

Thanks for the tips. I also recommend advertising the garage sale on Facebook since it’s free. Also if you have the ability to and have something like coffee, lemonade, something that is easy to mass make.
The best video I have seen so far about preparing for a yard sale. I have never been to a garage sale as nice as yours.

Make sure your not selling alone. I used to do the swap meets, and stuff gets stolen if your distracted with large crowds.
I would have broke the bank buying your home decor OMG! And then I would have had to turn around and put it at the garage sale I'm about to have with all of my own home decor that I'm trying to get rid of LOL. ABP - Always Be Pricing. What do I mean by that? AS THE YEAR progresses and you find things you want to sell - have 4 boxes READY to go marked with the words "Garage Sale". When you come across an object you want to sell and PRICE it...and put it in the box. When the sale hits, your boxes are FILLED and READY to go. Prepping for a garage sale is a year-round event - not something you do the week before.
And yes - I also do "fleas" too...so I am ALWAYS ready to go and my boxes are always STOCKED and bursting with stuff I want to get rid of.
Another tip - Collectibles don't sell as much at Garage sales...but they do SELL at Flea markets. General yard sale stuff typically only sells at garage sales.
I do agree....I am up at 5:00Am and I pre-set 99% of the sale the NIGHT before. I am usually ready to take money by 7:30 or EARLIER. EArly-birds are chomping at the bit to spend their money....and I'm happy to TAKE IT.
Here's the most important tip - IF they are looking at something expensive - BE ready to take Paypal. At the fleas, my sales have doubled as of late simply DUE to the fact that I now take Venmo, Paypal, etc.

This was a great video, you had some tips that I haven't seen in any of the other ones yet. Great idea hanging the flags to attract attention. Also having the extra grocery bags for people, I never would have thought of that.

I said after I had my last garage sale that I would never have another one...but I have so much stuff now that I may change my mind! Great tips!! Selling water or soft drinks is another way to make extra $$ too! I also like having a "free box" for fun.
It was hard to see a lot of my stuff go, I had some emotional attachments to a few pieces but once they were out of sight, they were also out of mind! Selling beverages is a great idea, I'll have to add that to our yard sale next year! The only thing I dislike about garage sales is having to store sooo much for such a long time, it's always tempting to just drop it all off at a donation center! =)

@@JanettesCozyCorner and whatever you don't sell, you can donate to Good Will. Even though they sell the items there, it doesn't end up in a landfill.
I think it would be better if you put the expensive items in a circle around your items that way if they just want to look they will follow the expensive items. then they will look at most of ur items instead of just a few.

How far ahead do you recommend starting to advertise it? Like, a week? I don't want it to be so far that people forget about it, but not so close that people can't plan for it. Thoughts?

For the most part I sold clothing for $3 (shirts, sweaters, shorts, pants) $5 for dresses, $10 for jackets and between $5-10 for bigger brand name clothing pieces. Hope that helps and thank you for your comment! =)

We never did bundles because it gets confusing with all the tags and everything

Main question is do u have to ask for permission? What do you do do u need a license?
Information was good but i would not advise to put whatnots on shelfs because if someone wants to buy it you have to take everything down

Yes, keep everything as organized as possible (girls toys together, boys toys, baby toys, and organize all clothes by size, doesn't have to be nicely folded or hung, just have everything grouped together!)

Thank you! Not at all! That time frame is actually when we received the most traffic and the most sales! We are doing another garage sale this coming summer and those are definitely the prime times, from my experience.
We always do all day long and afternoon crowds always get the best sales.

Every city's ordinance has different rules. We can only have our signs up during garage sale hours, but check with your village officials to see what's allowed! =)
We put it out the night before because we are alowed. No matter how well things are planned, we always rush around on the morning of the sale and the serious buyers come early.
I wanna have a yard sale but all the things I need to sale is mainly WOMAN CLOTHES and purses . Is that a thing lol plus I live in a apartment
Try Facebook marketplace! I use that alot, especially if I have a ton of only one type of category!

Clothes, especially Army or military t-shirts sell well. I also sold most of my stuffed animals, and if they bought a bunch, I threw in a free toy.

When I set up for yard sale. Pretty much do it like this on video.
I do set up signs in different intersections and streets.
Advertise in newspaper and Facebook.
I buy waters and sodas, I do give them out. Some customers want to pay for them. Which is fine with me and just tell them 50 cents.
I have set up with my daughter at other times and she does like to play music. I on the other hand just don't do it, but will try to remember next time.
I definitely don't over price at all. I sell pretty cheap. I just want to get rid of my stuff and definitely make a little extra money.
I guess I do ok as customers will ask whens my next yard sale. They have even given me their names and numbers to let them know of next yard sale.
I love doing yard sales, but they sure can be a lot of work. Especially with no help. I do admit well worth it.

Simply Brittnie yup, but I was trying to sell more, so offering 3 items for $8 instead of $9 gave the incentive for shoppers to purchase more, to save $1
