    Hello I’m now a proud owner of my own beetle. Unfortunately this will only be my second project car. What would I have to do to supercharge one of these motors “safely”? As much as I’d love to keep it all original i need a little more speed and I’m trying to figure out if I want a turbo or a supercharger

    Hi! I just bought for my 1.2 ltr engine with 81 hp I have seen many people saying that the noise of the Supercharger is very annoying do you know what to do to reduce it ??maybe using a muffler in the intake ?? And if it is reliable with stock internal? How much hp do you think it will Increase? Also love your VW videos they inspired me 😋

    • @StephenDanielAddeo
      @StephenDanielAddeo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the noise is from the gears, not the air flow. theres not much you can do about the noise. If you want something quiet maybe look into centrifugal blowers like vortech.

      i think something more than 1500cc starts to rape this blower,
      it has no dimensions to deal with more than 1600 for what is showed,
      if you look at the graphics on torque curve of this bug you may notice at peak rpm , the torque N/A and with this charger gets closer

    Would it be a bad idea to mount one of these superchargers to a 670cc Predator v-twin? They're pretty tough engines, they're rated at 22hp but I've seen one push 70hp naturally aspirated with performance parts.

    • @thedubshop

      An air-cooled be motor is kewl but no HP king . Still 100 HP is nothing to sneeze at and I imagine it moves off the line with gusto . A higher technology water cooled engine would of course make more HP per liter . So if you use an AMR500 for a water-cooled engine I would imagine if engineered well the HP would be very good .

    • @thedubshop
      @thedubshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not stupid. It comes down to the small size and only 500cc per revolution. The charger would have to spin to fast for the larger displacement. There are better chargers for larger engines :)

    • @notyourtipicaltechguy6438
      @notyourtipicaltechguy6438 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Indeed not a stupid question at all... The charger only moves 500cc for each turn... And it's Max rpm is 16000 (anyone correct me if I am wrong here) this means if you have an engine that has a redline of 6500 rpm you can only have a pulley ratio of 16000/6500 =2.46... a 1.6 liter engine consumes 800 cc per revolution and here you would be pumping in about 1200 cc... This would give about 11psi of boost (I used an online calculator) anyway on a 2 liter you would only get 4.5 psi of boost (assuming there aren't many losses) at this point it is not worth getting this supercharger since it will be working really hard for little boost... I myself have a Daihatsu feroza 1.6.. and I will be putting an amr500 on it soon. I'll run it at low boost since the engine is stock... So about 4-6 psi... So for a low boost application you might be able to run it on a 2L but it isn't recommend

    The tensioner is in the wrong location on the drive side of the belt, it should be on the non-drive side where the idler is & if it's making 11psi, the charge air temp will be excessive without cooling.

  • @jimciancio9005

    Hey dumb question here if anyone is capable could please answer. I understand the model of these Asian superchargers are prefixed with either a 300 or 500 do I assume this possible means something like 300 or 5 CFM because depending on your engines displacement you need the volume to create the pressure of boost. Being Asian I'm gonna safely assume it's probably not in SAE measurements of CFM so whatever the metric equivalent would be I have to assume??? There is hardly non to very misconstrued information on these blowers that are all over the net! I've played with blowers and turbos so I think I can understand the concept here. Yes you can always under or overdrive the system to meet your needs via pulley ratios no problem there. But I've found nothing on the max RPMs of the input shafts, nor their Max volume and PSI at a given RPM. So yeah I'm sure anything will work OK for a while, but when I found out these pos units aren't even brand new, there's nothing for proper information of their capabilities it was an instant red flag for me! I know blowers/roots type use a Teflon type tip seal for increased pressure gains and no need for lubrication on the rotors themselves. BUT the Teflon tip seals do ware out!!! They really do not have a great life expectancy especially at performance levels of speed and pressures they need to make. So yeah I was all ready to buy one about a month ago till I realized the fuckin things are all used units take offs actually via the dealership or factory. Meaning something's wrong with something here....... The other big red flag is they state that there's no warranty what so ever, these are as is used units, but should be good. The factory replaces them and the cores are discarded one eBay seller said they are simply replaced being it's easier. Yes it maybe easier. BUT someone is paying for it to be replaced somewhere! So are these just throw away units not meant to ever be rebuilt when they begin to fail?? If the factory doesn't rebuild them so where could you ever find a part for them anyways?? So yeah I'm good with these pos things, they work from what I've seen, I guess people are getting really lucky the ones completing their projects now? But after doing all this custom BS to make the thing fit and work right, let alone look nice! What happens when this supply of used parts blowers drys up soon and yours now fails in some way, weather a bearing on it Shits or the rotors are just plain worn and it doesn't make anymore boost......? So Now you have to figure something out and redesign your whole engine and engine compartment to hopefully find a similar replacement! Fuck this! So I guess I'm just going back to what I know, buying a Turbo. The blower is cool, even looks like a baby Detroit 6 or 8-71 roots supercharger. But it's not worth it if it's here today gone tomorrow and no way to fix it rebuild them things. So they are disposable units which are being sold as already disposed units off someone else's headache so much so they opted to throw them away rather than repair or refurbish them. Well good luck to everyone using one, and oh BTW a blower centrifugal or roots takes horse power to make HP, remember that, see ya in the rearview with my Turbocharger. Thanks. And very impressive build on the Bug it looks and sounds absolutely amazing for now. For your sake I really hope these things have a halfway decent lifespan.

    • @thedubshop
      @thedubshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your input. They are 500cc per revolution with a max rated speed of 16000rpm. These do not have a lip seal, the rotors are 100% coated. They are not perfect but they work great. I would also use a turbo on larger engines. With this bone stock engine to make almost 100hp with the torque of a 2L all in under 2500rpm it's just a great feeling.

    • @jimciancio9005
      @jimciancio9005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh thank you so very much for the information on these blowers! That's not too bad specs wise for smaller 1-1.5 liter engines even smaller I have a plan in mind to use something of that output on a 600cc V twin. But you are absolutely right! The power gains are really worth the money spent! Not to mention it sounds pretty darn impressive with the blower whine. Thank you for taking the time out and write me back it's been like pulling teeth to find anyone with any sort of definite specs of cfm per revolution, exactly what I needed to know. Well thank you for the video, and I hope it has a pretty long life for ya! Otherwise it looks bad ass! Lol.
