NB - the bass cover will be up later this week/next week
Taken from the album 'From Mars to Sirius' this is a challenging song on a structural level and on a stamina level. There's only 3 main ideas - the intro, the main riff, the chorus, but the constant alterations on the main riff make it hard to remember and a challenge to learn and it's clear why Gojira choose not to play it live apart from the one studio video.

Tapping is pretty hard
Keep at it, once your hands get use to the movements and relax it becomes easier. You'll get the hang of it.

A good setup makes all the difference too. If you are having to use a slot of force, your string action is probably too high lol.
Hardest part of tapping is actually to harden the finger skin. In first few weeks of learning it, I needed a day or two pause in between, as every tap was so painful that I could actually sing along the au au au au au au au au.... xD
Practice makes it perfect. Tapping is my favourite part of playing electric guitar, even though....I love to shred all sorts of riffs

So if I wanted to play this with standard tuning, where should I play?
Beautiful cover, one of Gojira's best songs. What does the dotted notation mean in the first tapping section? I have not been able to find anything on it. Does it mean to mute the string after playing the tapped note so that the open string doesn't ring out?

Hi! Quick question - did you have to do anything special to post this, re: copyright? Trying to post a vocal cover I've done of one of their songs, and it keeps getting blocked. First time this has happened to me, curious what to do..
Hi, no nothing special. As there's no trace of the original audio it just flags it up as a cover. If I use the original track underneath then it will get flagged for copyright and subsequently blocked.
If you sing over an instrumental cover it should be okay and just be seen as a cover rather than getting blocked for using the original song.

You said in the video description, that they didn't play it live due to the difficulty (or did I miss understand that). As far as I know they didn't play it because it was too emotional and would "hurt" the other songs.

I've finally gotten the tapping down for oroborus and the gift of guilt but god damn this one is hard. A lot of little variations thrown into this one.
It's all the small changes that make it a pain, I had to write them out to remember. But it's all those small changes that keep it interesting so I'm glad they're there!

How do you make your tapping sound so clean, I can play the notes but I’m getting a reverb sound from my amp?
A couple of things you can try. Try putting a bit of foam under the strings behind the nut, sometimes the strings ring out from there. Also try using the palm of the tapping hand to mute the strings you aren't playing. Hope that helps a bit!

Is there a technique to not basically tearing the muscle in your left arm? I can't seem to do it without having to stop in the second verse, definitely the most painful thing I've done on guitar. Maybe it's because I have pretty small hands? (Nice, clean cover btw 🤘)
One thing to try is turning the back of the fretting hand slightly towards the headstock of the guitar slightly to release some of the tension in the arm - so if you play right handed you'll turn your left hand slightly to the right.

Is this good first tap songs to learn on guitar?
The patterns are fairly simple so I'd say give it a go! When I first learnt tapping I practised the tapping section in the Van Halen song Eruption. It's a bit tricker but worth looking at to practise tapping.

It's based on the guitar pro tabs you can find on ultimate guitar. I can't remember which version exactly but I believe they were pretty accurate from what I remember.

@@shabazzu if you have guitar pro on ultimate guitar you can hear the exact official tab out loud with all the instruments mixed in. You can solo out and listen to the guitar only so it makes it easier. Also when you practice, compare the tabs by listening to the original song and try to train your ear to play by just hearing
