Fun fact: The company which operates the Blockbuster franchise doesn’t allow new applicants to open stores, they only permit the ones that were operating before their downfall

My wife (then girlfriend) loved Blockbuster so much that she rented about 100 movies in a month and a half. The next time we went, she was given a GOLD blockbuster card as some next level tier. I can't remember what bonus stuff she got but I do know she used it and people asking her how in the heck she got it. No clue if that was our location specifically or others.
    Good video!

I see two different things for the gold memebership one was around 1996 and it gave -Unlimited Rentals -No Late Fees, -Reservations and later on it was no membership fee and reservations and some free rentals, it was something like renting a 100 movies a year or so.

When I was 13 my cousin and I rode our bikes to the Blockbuster on Friday night and rented our favorite video game, WWF Royal Rumble for the Super Nintendo, for weekend. On Sunday night when my mother drove me to the Blockbuster to return the game. I was surprised to find that the Blockbuster had closed over the weekend. I still have that game and break it out an play it every now and then. Everytime I think of that and giggle to myself.

I've learned if there's something I want, unless I really *need* it for some bizarre reason, just wait and within 5-10 years I can get it at a major discount. Seems like a long time but really it's not, you'll see. RTX 3090's? Just watch, give it 3-4 more years. $5000 digital pianos from 10 years ago you can't even give away now, etc. The only thing worth keeping are Cars, assuming you bought those used and at a major discount as well.

You made dreams come true Jacob!

This has been a place I’ve wanted to visit for years. I never got to experience Blockbuster. But I did get to experience video stores for a short time in my life. We used to have a video store in my town, me and my Grandma would go every weekend and pick up a movie. Take it home, eat pop corn and watch the movie. Take it back the next morning. One of favorite memories I had with my Grandma. It’s just a over all experience that is the best part. I used to just walk into the store, and look at the movies because I was 10 and didn’t have any money. But hopefully one day I’ll be able to journey out to the last blockbuster and experience something I miss experiencing.

Some Blockbusters were right next door to a Discovery Zone. After paying around all day, go on over to Blockbuster to get a few videos to take home. Hey I saw that 2020 documentary yesterday. I echo the many posts here that express the joy one feels at just the sight of a Blockbuster. Having grown up in the 80s and 90s, Blockbuster was the perfect family member. They were always there, bright, shiny, open arms. The elation one would get even just deciding to "go to Blockbuster!" has little equal today. I am glad so many people had the opportunity to experience this chain and that this video has kept its magic alive.

I love blockbuster, it was actually my 1st job in 2001. By that time we had dvds and vhs and we did have to rewind the movies if the customers didn’t do it. We had this small car that would rewind the vhs tapes. It was really annoying when I would grab the box with the vhs tapes and they weren’t rewound! Lol. I remember printing the blockbuster cards and laminating them. I would grab a few movies after work and bring them back when they were due. I would also rent out nintendo GameCube games. Glad that people are still renting but I'm sure the merchandise is what keeps them in business. The clothes looked really cool.

that sign sums up every strip mall during the crappy 90's haircutter - pizza place and video store - now all abandoned eyesores

Back in the late 90s I worked at Blockbuster's Canoga Park CA location, which at that time was the busiest Blockbuster store on the planet!

I don't have the nostalgia for Blockbusters like a lot of people seem to do. In my town, there was a family-owned video rental place that I used to rent movies/video games at. Wasn't until 2006/2007, towards the end for Blockbuster, that my town finally got one, and I signed up for the service where they'd ship movies to your house, and you could return them at the store for more movies.

Ah the memories of Blockbuster! My first proper job was in Blockbuster Video in the early 90s. Lasted there most of the 90s from 93 to 99 with a 18 month to 2 year gap around 86/87. So long ago can barely remember!
And this was Blockbuster in the UK.

The actor Adam Brody (The OC, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "The Last Blockbuster"...) worked at the Blockbuster in Pt Loma near our home and was the guy that recommended titles to watch, pretty sure all four of my daughters had a crush on him.

I still collect dvds of all genres and have them proudly displayed thtoughout my home. I had a good friend of mine who worked at B.B. and would clean up scratched video games that id find in various places. Id end up taking them to a used bookstore and getting really good store trades for books, dvds, or other video games.

Two bit of info i found .
On January 5, 2021, Glenview, Illinois-based Family Video announced it was closing all its remaining video rental stores.[29] The company was the last remaining video rental chain in the United States; its closing marked the end of large video rental chains.
Over 86% of the 15,300 U.S. stores (specializing in video rentals) open in 2007 were reported to have closed by 2017, bringing the total to approximately 2,140 remaining

I feel like I didn't know what a planchette was until I started getting into more spooky things. I was raised in a pretty religious home so we didn't touch the Ouija board. Therefore I didn't know what it was. Now I have a bookmark that's a Ouija board and my kid has a mask that has a planchette on the front of it. Haha
