    Hi Dennis,
Great video ! The close up camera position for the spool slammer maintenance (the last portion) was the best I 've ever seen. Perfect distancing !! It really helped to hone in on those parts along with your description. Thanks.
    Best Regards,

Interesting to finally see this size Spinfisher V. I’ve often meant to ask you how often I should service the reels in my collection I haven’t fished with? I’ve never seen a crosswind piece or block with a roller on it. One thing I really like on this reel is that seal around the housing edge. I also like the Slammer underneath drag system. You did your usual great job on this reel. Dennis I sent you an e-mail with photos of a reel I got this afternoon. It isn’t the Mitchell 496 I wanted as I lost that one. Believe it or not I got a beautiful Mer 52 Punch PUM Surf Reel - my second one! It comes with a spare spool so I’m really excited about it. Check you e-mail for photos. - Chris

Thanks Chris - I saw the note. Sometimes you get lucky with bad luck like missing the 496. Enjoy one for show and one to go fishing - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle I’m also quite happy to have an extra spool for the Mer 52. Both the spools with the reel I just got are in better shape than the 1 spool I had. My original will become the spare. The one thing I haven’t figured out on these reels is the drag system. They work fine but I can’t figure out how to open up the spool to get at the drag stack. It may take a type of tool I don’t have. (Yet)

You can definitely see Penn's improvement in the design between the Spinfisher V and VI. The rubber seal on the V is on the outside of the side plate screws, which potentially could still let water in, whereas on the VI the side plate screws are on the outside of the seal. That will at least minimize any water penetration from the side plate screws getting through the seal now. With regard to that seal Dennis, is it a good idea to clean that and recoat it with something periodically?

What's with the old board? Next thing you know you will be putting the grease on with a screwdriver again! Happy Easter Dennis. Love your videos.

Happy Easter. The old board cracked. I still have it. It is on my wall of fame. I still use the screwdriver occasionally for grease. Old habits...... Thanks Dennis

Dennis, I love the old board. It looks like it was the side of an old drawer. It adds character to the videos.

Great video. One question, maybe i just didn't notice this after owning the reel all these years, but is the collar of the handle not supposed to be flush against the base once reinstalled? Mine (and I think yours in the video after reassembly, though hard to tell) has about a 1/8" gap or smaller at the base of the handle collar. Thanks

It is not supposed to be flush to the case if that is what you are asking. If it were flush to the case, the reel would not turn.

I’m curious why you didn’t service the line roller bearing. Seems like they fail a lot.

You are correct. It should be removed, cleaned and oiled - Dennis
