No to fence ..you will feel closed in. Put in an arched opening to the veg garden if you feel that the veg garden needs a opening presence. Your boxwoods will grow up and give you the feeling you want instead of a fence.
What a nice surprise to see you on TH-cam tonight! I can only dream about having a greenhouse like yours - so charming. As much as I like a picket fence, I wonder if you would tire of seeing a picket fence in every direction. Perhaps return it to the side where you replaced it with boxwoods, but leave the back area open for a clear view of the garden area. Your eyes would rest on the green space. I know one thing: whatever you decide to do you will make it beautiful.
This is so nice! Thank you! I think this is excellent feedback! Our family room faces the back and I’ve wondered if I’d get tired of seeing so many pickets. This gives me lots to consider. Thank you! Have a great weekend!! 😃
Yay! So fun to see you pop up in the feed this morning. I so enjoy your approach to gardening - you capitalize on a fresh new season to rethink things you love. You’re so easy to connect with. I think putting the fence back in has my vote. If you paint your shed white, it’ll really unify that end of your garden. Happy spring gardening! P.S. Thanks to your hubby for being so supportive!❤️
You’re so so sweet and reading this message made me smile. Thank you for being here and for your kind, and positive feedback and encouragement. It is so appreciated! Have a great weekend!!
Yes to picket fence - I loved it so much. I totaly get your desire for privacy - I´m the same way. I think your driveway yard has still a lot of a driveway with the straigt path. Maybe a meandering path instead with plants that grow into it - a little less straigt? Hugs from Germany - finally some sunshine here today - so I can get into my garden. 🌷
Thank you so much for this feedback!!! It’s what I wanted to hear. I want to make things more meandering and less straight too. I was going to mention in the video, but figured you all thought I was crazy enough for suggesting all the other changes. 😆 Much appreciated your helpful feedback. Hugs to you! Go enjoy that sunshine! 😃🌷
Yes to fence with a really nice arbour would look so elegant with your cottage garden. You could move the other arbour over or enlarge it to prevent feeling closed off.
I always love your videos! Mostly to dream and just enjoy, but now to actually make some plans of my own! We moved last Fall from a large country woods to a very small town lot! It was a rental so nothing at all is planted! I shoved (literally) some bulbs in the ground last November! I told myself I didn’t care and wouldn’t be starting over with landscaping or gardening (I had to leave so much behind) but now Spring is here, I need to plant! 😂
Your laugh makes me laugh! What a journey and by sharing your authentic experiences make us as gardeners feel understood! Thank you for your good vibes. Can’t wait for your next video.
Yes to the fence! I loved the look and with the openings you are thinking of adding, I think you will like it better and less work than the diamond area. Also like the privacy idea. The green door on the shed will be so pretty. You might consider the color Rejuvenation by Behr. So soft and pretty
Glad to see ya!! You’re too funny. I remember your old fence and your yard was beautiful, though no matter what you do in your yard it’s always beautiful!! You have the best ideas!!!
I, for one, LOVE a picket fence, so I’m a YES! 🥰 And I absolutely love the off white shed with hunter green door and shutters; a classic garden look! And I agree with the extra privacy fences. It will be so wonderful to have that experience of the anticipation of entering your magical garden space. I can’t wait to follow along. I’ll be tuning in for the upcoming episodes of as the garden changes!
Hey there, so glad to see your garden. yes to the fence back. love your ideas. your garden is charming. love your sense of humor. always makes me laugh. thank you
Yes to fence!!!! Garden rooms are what we strive for, it gives visitors a reason to stroll around rather than stand in one area and see it all, adds a little magic here and there. I loved your fence before, thought it was so charming. How it is now, you can view your whole back yard from the driveway which to me makes your yard look smaller. I also think the arbor you are removing from the driveway gate area would look beautiful as an entrance to the garden with roses twined up it rather than just an opening. One thing that bothers me from the view point of standing in the driveway near your house(I’m OCD) is how the knot garden left edge intrudes into the line of the door of the shed/garage… if you do keep the knot garden you might want to think about lining up the knot garden left edge with the right edge of the right doors 🤦♀️… 😂😂 am I making sense😂hope so! I’m sure whatever you do will be beautiful! You do you!!! Brenda🇨🇦
I would definitely leave the knot garden, it’s going to be beautiful! I suggest using the arch/arbor from the drive for the center entry to the veg beds. It’s hard to tell the depth on camera, but I would put the short fence you’re taking out on both sides of the arbor. However, I would put it behind your walking path, ending without a return leaving an entrance by the greenhouse and garage, preferably lining up with the garage & greenhouse corners. You could put posts at the ends of the fence and hang your baskets or top with finials finishing off the ends with an exclamation mark! You’ll still be able to see some of the veg area but it will simplify it visually and will call your guests to explore it. This configuration would allow you to walk straight from garage to greenhouse with the ability to enter the veg area in three places. Once this is in, I think you’ll see you don’t want to put the fence back in the knot garden. Finally, you could also add swinging gates in the side openings so you can go through hands free, if you prefer to finish off that fence line. I hope these ideas help! Cyndi
Thank you for showing your early walkthrough of your garden …. It helps to know that I’m not as far behind in my garden cleanup . It’s daunting at the beginning of each spring when there’s so much to do . I know your garden will be as beautiful as it is every year !
I enjoyed walking around my gardens and seeing everything coming up ..and i enjoyed yours too.. it is really early this year . I like the colors you're thinking about . You've really changed things a lot over the last couple years and it always is pretty .Gardens are always evloving. 😊 I'm on the fence with you ...i loved the fence but it also will block the a lot of the view of the back garden. I'm sure you will make it beautiful no matter what you decide. . ❤
I have that same iron lantern, I love that your green house is so tidy, my potting shed is a hot crowded mess, can’t wait til I can pull all my overwintering plants out into the sunshine…still chilly here in Illinois. So nice to see you, always a treat!
Thank you! Oh my it’s taken me a while to get truly organized. Last year I was tripping over pots. Now everything is in the shed and I trip in there. 🤣 It’s truly chaos in there. Glad you are here! Happy weekend!!
Hi Laura, It’s so nice to see your healthy greenhouse plants, daffodils and hellebores blooming. Thanks for sharing your ideas for possible changes to the fences. Have you watched “Clark cottage gardens”? Your driveway picket fence could be put back with low growing graduated perennials on both sides? It would give you more flowers options to grow and a fence helps add to the beauty. Have you considered tall hedges for your front privacy instead of the white fences? Check out “Instant hedges” They were a solution for privacy for “Northlawn flower farm’s “ side yard. I hope you will check out these TH-camrs for ideas I suggest! Anything you choose will be lovely!
I’m glad to see that you’re back. I’m in zone6 and we are a full 3 weeks ahead this year. I like fences. Like the idea of fence panels on either side of the arbor. Wonder if it’d be good to start with that and see if that fills your need for fence. Meanwhile, that’ll give your knot garden time to grow and define itself more completely. Maybe, once it’s mature, it’ll delight you. 🤷♀️ This video spurred me on to get out and weed as soon as I get home from work today.
This message made me happy to see. Thank you! Isn’t it so crazy this weather? 66 today and getting warmer daily. Thank you for this kind feedback. It’s so appreciated. Enjoy this lovely day!
It so nice to see back. Spring finally sprung in your area. I think it would be nice if you put fence in your vegetable garden with arbor, it open up more in the side of your house. Just a suggestion.
Hi, I like the idea of the big privacy fence, but am enjoying the open space & the beautiful knot garden, Iwill be looking forward to your ideas, Happy Gardening, Ann from Ohio .
Love your backyard, Laura. It's absolutely beautiful. About the fence, I just love the openness of your yard right now. My opinion when you had the fences up it stop your eyes.
Yes to the privacy fence. Good idea. However, I say wait and see about the picket fence. You probably don't want a chopped up looking yard. See how things are looking come June after the privacy fence is completed. Absolutely love your yard and home and watching how you design and decorate.
So only because you asked…I will say I was originally sad to see your picket fence removed, I really loved it. But now I absolutely love the Knot Garden area and was looking forward to watching it fill in this year, with that obelisk in the center 😍! Can I just enjoy it for this season and maybe revisit this topic in the Fall 😂 I always enjoy watching your “crazy” garden rearranging so will of course follow along to see what you decide…which is always beautiful!
This made me laugh! Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate it so much! It helps! I’m glad you’ll stick around for the rollercoaster garden ride. 😆💜
The promise of the coming season is just a balm for the soul! I actually loved the picket fence because it created a room in front of the shed/garage. The privacy fence out front will be great and yes those topiaries will pop! I’m all for fencing, more stuff to grow clematis up! I’m a bit obsessed 😬
Maybe you can temporally place the driveway fences near the raised beds to help you decide. Either way, your garden is beautiful. And those trays that Yuliya recommended are great, she's awesome too!
Yes!! I think that’s really the best thing. Set it up to see. I have the panels saved from when we took it down so I’ll just have to try that. Thank you!
I love, love, love your garden decor! I have a couple of questions: Where did you purchase your fencing? (I am local to the South Jersey area) Also, I love everything Bee Skep (basket material and others). Can you share where you bought yours?
Hi Laura, I think you're not " feeling " the driveway section because it still looks like a driveway and not really a part of your garden. We have a huge silver maple right on the property line with our neighbors, I'd say it's a 50/50 split. I can confirm that they love to drop limbs randomly. Not twigs but huge branches. It's far enough away from our houses that it's really not a concern, we just let it do it's thing, hope for the best and clean up the consequences. Happy gardening from the Pocono mountains Pa. Zone 6 A.
No to fence. Too short a distance to the veg garden path with an opening and then another short distance to the shed. I like the look now and the boxwood area.
Yes to fence, and maybe another arbor to walk through, into the raised bed garden (well you can reuse that arbor.) And of course there would be beds in front of the fence for MORE PLANTS. How about the path from the front arbor goes straight back, and turns into the backyard, then from there to the shed its a bed, also with stepping stones to get to the shed, but you fill those beds with cottage plants....there would be another stepping stone path through to the kitchen garden like you have now.
Yes to ALL of the above. It’s exactly how I’m thinking. Great feedback and love to hear it. Thank you for taking the time to share your suggestions!! Have a great weekend! 😃
Hello! I have some thoughts on the fence - maybe the perimeter of the grass could be more formalized and lined with shrubbery. Then connect the existing fence with the wonky side in a way that accentuates that view
Thank you! Agree snd thought of this too! I think I miss the “cottage” feel the fence gave. One thing I enjoyed was that it made a great support for my tall dahlias too. I like your idea, gives me more things too consider. Thank you!
Yes to the fence! Thanks for another great video!!! I appreciate you so much! Question where do you purchase the basket planters? I love them but having a hard time sourcing them. Do you have a link? Thanks again for all that you do!
Thank you! 😃💜 the baskets I ordered a few years ago and quite a few because I know these things can disappear. But they were mostly from Lowes and Home Depot. I’ve seen some inside of Lowes before. More in the laundry / organization area than planting things. I wish they were easier to find too! I need some more. 😂
I have no idea about the fence. However, I think you have a lovely garden space. I am in the zone of 9B/ Central Florida. What zone are you and area of your state. We usually are humid here. So I am able to grow some things you have there. I follow you and other gardeners around the country. I like your demeanor toward gardening and enjoy your content. Hope you have a lovely day!
Good morning! What a nice thing to read today. Thank you! I’m in zone 7 NJ and it gets very hot and super humid here. It’s so fun to follow gardeners from all around. I love watching gardeners in England. Seems they have the perfect climate there without the humidity. Have a beautiful weekend!!
Hi Laura. Your garden is looking lovely. May I ask, what is the name of the weed you are pulling out at time stamp 7:29? I have a ton of these, and have only started to see them the past couple of years here in zone 6B, but they are prolific!
Totally hate it. I’m really glad to have it looked at. The position of that limb freaks me out. I do not need a “hand that rocks the cradle” greenhouse moment in my life. 🙈
@@HowsItGrowingthe house I grew up in had a very large silver maple in the middle of the back yard. It started dropping whole limbs and was not very attractive. I’m glad my parents had it cut down.
Ahhh yes. That is “hairy bittercress” quite the name. 😆 it’s in the mustard family. I have it in great abundance. Especially in my driveway area that I never show. 🤣 best to get that out now. The flowers form little slender pods that burst and toss seeds everywhere.
You are not loving the garage drive because it continues to look like a driveway. I would try to make the driveway look like it is part of the backyard. Bring more plants in the space. Make the travel space narrower so it looks like a walkway rather than a driveway. You are doing a great job with your projects. All is wonderful. Such fun to develop ideas. I try to do the same thing in my expanding garden. Have fun no matter what you decide. I enjoy all your videos.
You nailed it completely! That is the problem. I really think I need to make it all much less straight and more curvy and meandering with more shrubs. Very good feedback! It helps!! Thank you!
Silver Maples have to go! The builder put one on my property when we moved in. Within 5 years it was as tall as my house. The root system is bad for foundation’s. My brother chopped it down and now I am at peace. They are weak I would worry about branch’s hitting your greenhouse.
I’m so worried about it! ☹️ I really hope eventually it can completely come down. I’ll feel a lot of relief once this trunk leaning my way is gone. I’m so glad yours is out, you must feel worlds better!
Hi! I’m zone 7 in NJ. I honestly wasn’t sure this would make it. I usually kept it in the greenhouse but this year took a chance. We got down to 8 degrees for a stretch and snow as well this year.
No to fence ..you will feel closed in. Put in an arched opening to the veg garden if you feel that the veg garden needs a opening presence. Your boxwoods will grow up and give you the feeling you want instead of a fence.
“I’m thinking about putting the picket fence back.” Least surprising news ever. 😂
😆 What can I say. I mean, you knew it would happen. I might as well give the people what they want. Hahaha.
No to fence! It's beautiful open and makes the garden feel open and roomy and yet draws it all together.
Thank you! 😃 I’m definitely not rushing into anything this time around.
Yes! Put the picket fence back! I loved it!
Thank you! Love hearing the feedback. 😃
What a nice surprise to see you on TH-cam tonight! I can only dream about having a greenhouse like yours - so charming. Yes! I loved your picket fence. I would say put it back.
Great!! Thank you! 😃💜
I love picket fences, my vote is yes, then again don’t fence yourself in. Lovely seeing you pop up on my YT feed today!
Yay! So fun to see you pop up in the feed this morning. I so enjoy your approach to gardening - you capitalize on a fresh new season to rethink things you love. You’re so easy to connect with. Yes for the fence. Garden rooms are better
Thank you! Yes I agree! 😃
Love your garden tour. It's so pretty. Your greenhouse too. I love seeing every little detail! Such eye candy. 😍
Thank you! 💜💜
Yes, to the picket fence. It looked beautiful when you had it there before and putting in front of the veggie garden defines the space better.
Thank you! 💜 such great and helpful feedback.
Yes to picket fence - I loved it so much. I totaly get your desire for privacy - I´m the same way. I think your driveway yard has still a lot of a driveway with the straigt path. Agree, a meandering path would invite a stroll to enjoy your lovely garden!
Absolutely Yes to the fence👍😁
Oh my word - the Pagoda Lantern is gorgeous Laura! So happy to see you back and all the beautiful things you have growing♥
Yes to fence with a really nice arbour would look so elegant with your cottage garden. You could move the other arbour over or enlarge it to prevent feeling closed off.

This makes me so happy! 😃 Gardening is such a process. I’m glad you’re here. Thank you for your support and encouragement. 💜
Yes to the fence! I loved the look and with the openings you are thinking of adding, I think you will like it better and less work than the diamond area. Also like the privacy idea. The green door on the shed will be so pretty. You might consider the color Rejuvenation by Behr. So soft and pretty
that hanging basket 🧺 is so cute ❤
I love it! 😃💜
Yes to picket fence! I don't know if this would look weird but maybe another arch where the blue obelisk is might look cute. With the fence inbetween.
Glad to see ya!! You’re too funny. I remember your old fence and your yard was beautiful, though no matter what you do in your yard it’s always beautiful!! You have the best ideas!!!
Great seeing you again! Can't wait to see what you have for us this year.
Love the picket fence idea. Love your ideas and beautiful garden!!!!!!❤
Yes to fence, I've missed the fence!
YES!!! I did like it with the fence.
I agree whole heartily with continuing the privacy fence! The anticipation it will create is worth it alone!
Hey there, so glad to see your garden. yes to the fence back. love your ideas. your garden is charming. love your sense of humor. always makes me laugh. thank you
Thank you! 💜😃 wishing you a beautiful weekend!
Yes to fence!!!! Garden rooms are what we strive for, it gives visitors a reason to stroll around rather than stand in one area and see it all, adds a little magic here and there. It all looks great!
Thank you! 😃💜
Yes to the white picket fence.
Thank you! 💜
Cyndi

Hi!! I really like that idea. I think this might be the direction to go! 💜 Happy Spring!
I always loved your picket fence and was sad when you removed it. So yes I vote PUT THE FENCE BACK, lol.
lol!!! Thank you! This helps!!!
Glad to see you back. Where did you find the hanging terra cotta planter? Nice touch.
Thank you! I got it on Amazon. 😃
Hi, I like the idea of the big privacy fence, but am enjoying the open space & the beautiful knot garden, Iwill be looking forward to your ideas, Happy Gardening, Ann from Ohio .
Thank you so much Ann! Wishing you a beautiful garden season!!
Love your backyard, Laura. It's absolutely beautiful. About the fence, I just love the openness of your yard right now. My opinion when you had the fences up it stop your eyes.
Thank you! I’m so torn Janet! I feel this way too. I’m going to have to figure this one out soon. Driving myself bananas. 🤣
Yes to the privacy fence. Good idea. However, I say wait and see about the picket fence. You probably don't want a chopped up looking yard. See how things are looking come June after the privacy fence is completed.
Absolutely love your yard and home and watching how you design and decorate.
So much appreciated! Definitely something I need to consider. Not something I want to put up and do all that work then regret it. Thank you!
10:28 try dormant oil! As far as I know, it works, but it’s typically applied in December or January
Love the hanging baskets inside the greenhouse😊
Thank you! 😃
So only because you asked…I will say I was originally sad to see your picket fence removed, I really loved it.
Have a beautiful weekend!!
may I ask source for new smallseed starting trays?
I am interested to know the source also. Thanks
I think a fence would block everything off again, I like it with the fence gone.
It’s a tough one for sure and I feel so torn. Thank you!
Yes to the picket fence. Also, can you tell me where you got your garden hat from?
Thank you! Yes absolutely. It’s from Shop Terrain.
Thanks so much. Your videos brighten up my day. @@HowsItGrowing
Why not use the boxwoods that you dig up to create a living fence? Just a thought…
Love the video! Where did u find the terracotta hanging basket?
Thank you! I got it on Amazon! 😃
Is it on your amazon page? @@HowsItGrowing
Hi Laura. Your garden is looking lovely. May I ask, what is the name of the weed you are pulling out at time stamp 7:29? I have a ton of these, and have only started to see them the past couple of years here in zone 6B, but they are prolific!
Thank you! That is hairy bittercress. Lovely name! 😆 it’s in the mustard family. I have it everywhere. Ugh.
Silver maples sort of suck. Glad you neighbor is having it looked it.
What is that weed you are pulling at 7:50 , I have that everywhere ?😮
Loved your picket fence ❤
Ahhh yes. That is “hairy bittercress” quite the name. 😆 it’s in the mustard family. I have it in great abundance. Especially in my driveway area that I never show. 🤣 best to get that out now. The flowers form little slender pods that burst and toss seeds everywhere.
@@HowsItGrowing Thank you ,, ughhhh
You are not loving the garage drive because it continues to look like a driveway. I would try to make the driveway look like it is part of the backyard. Bring more plants in the space. Make the travel space narrower so it looks like a walkway rather than a driveway. You are doing a great job with your projects. All is wonderful. Such fun to develop ideas. I try to do the same thing in my expanding garden. Have fun no matter what you decide. I enjoy all your videos.
You nailed it completely! That is the problem. I really think I need to make it all much less straight and more curvy and meandering with more shrubs. Very good feedback! It helps!! Thank you!
I liked the fence along the driveway, but I don’t think you should put it in front of the veggie beds. I think that will feel closed in.
I think I agree with this. Thank you!
I was sad when you took the picket fence out 🥲
I think that will be changing soon. 😃
Do you remember what the name of your rosemary in the pot ?
Chef’s Choice.
I love your garden! Can’t wait to see it in full Spring!
No to the fence. It will close in the space visually.
❤
May I ask what zone are you in? I really want an olive tree. I’m in 6A or recently B I’m told. I can’t believe it survived outside.
Hi! I’m zone 7 in NJ. I honestly wasn’t sure this would make it. I usually kept it in the greenhouse but this year took a chance. We got down to 8 degrees for a stretch and snow as well this year.
Why not move your front arbor fence and gate into your back vegetable garden instead. Bonny
Yes that’s probably what I’ll do if I put the fence back. I save all of the old panels that match those. Thank you!
Where do you get your arbors? thanks
Hi! Just from Lowes. But the best thing to do is look on their website. Lots of options and then you can do in store pickup.
Maybe just fence in the vegetable garden and leave the rest open to seem more spacious.
Yes! I actually did just that. I show it in my latest video. 😃
You sound like Kyle Richards from RHOBH!!
I had to look her up. 🤣🤷🏻♀️
No to the fence
Thanks for your feedback.
How about a lighter sage green trim for doors & shutters?
I have a dark green trim, shutters, and doors on my house, so it would match and make sense.
Enough deconstruction already. Let a fence stand as a fence.
I don’t even know what this means. 🤷🏻♀️
