By the way guys, you can stay in the US for 6 months under a B2 tourist visa which is also extendable for another 6 months (so 12 total). You don’t have to use the Visa Waiver Program, even though you are eligible. You only get 90 days under the VWP/ESTA and that’s only extendable for emergencies and no more than 30 more days.
Of course, the visa route requires you apply for it in an embassy abroad before entering the US so this would be a tip for rhe next time you travel back to the US. It might alleviate some of your stress of having to leave the US before 90 days are up.

As the wife & I are always travelling to California to see our friends, Back in 2019 we decided to open a savings account with a US back. (Citi) This was one of the best moves we ever made. We can transfer cash from our UK account into the US account very easily. The setting up of such an account is a tiny pain due to the paperwork we had to provide. Passport details, NI numbers and a few other bit to prove who we were. Covid played it's part as we could not visit for quite a while, but as we found out after 6 months of having this account we were also able to open a US current account. which then gave us a debit card onto of the atm card for the savings account. Do I need to say anymore. Well worth considering guys. Happy travels.

I live out in that area (ish) in Lockhart. The mechanic struggles are definitely a thing right now. Unless you have a buddy that works at a garage, you’re stuck waiting in a potentially very long line.
Enjoy our natural springs and rivers! It’s beautiful in this part of Texas.

I bought a 1978 VW Camper Bus in Wyoming where I live, 10 years ago. It was rough, not running well, but zero rust. I had a 1973 VW Bus in the 1970s so I know how to work on them. 10 years on, I’m still doing maintenance and improving the mechanicals, but I only paid $3,700 and did I say No Rust, which is rare for a 44 year old bus. I love it. I can’t complain. Best advice. Be patient. If this one doesn’t work out, there are thousands more available in the USA. The next could be cheaper and better. Tip. Everything is more expensive in Austin these days. Try looking in less popular locations, like West or East Texas. Cars don’t rust in West Texas. Good luck.😎👍

Well here’s my 2nd video of yours I’ve seen. Knowing what would soon happen to this van made it more of a horror story. And to top it off, he said “austin, here we come!” Y’all we’re in my town when it happened. Crazy. Again. Please come visit us again.

Before finalising the purchase of your van you should ask your mechanic to give a report on what is required to be done to the van to bring it up to a safe and reliable standard. Does it have a comprehensive service history? When was it last serviced? What are the tyres like? How old are they? Have you seen the bills for what has been done to it over the years? Although you like the inside of the van and its important that you do, it should not be the reason you buy it. If the mechanical/electrical parts of the van have not been checked out (by someone who knows what they are looking at) you could end up making the same mistake as you did on your first van. So BEFORE you actually pay any money across get it checked out. Like i said in an earlier post there is no MOT equivalent in the US so that vehicle may be in a dangerous condition and the current owner may be genuinely unaware of that. Sorry to rain on your parade but I (and you) would be really disappointed if you bought something that wasnt fit for your purpose - or wasnt safe. Once you have had it checked out by a qualified mechanic and you know how much it is going to cost you to bring it uto standard then you can, if necessary, renegtiate the price. Once youve paid for it,
    its to late

Don't be overly concerned with the cost of mechanical repairs. Simple technology and cheap spares (second hand if necessary) mean costs are way less than with modern vehicles.

@@TravelBeans At 13:52 .... Did I see something like 61,455 miles or 01,455 meaning 101,455 miles? Even if it has 101,455 miles if you change all the fluids & filters, use some good quality full synthetic motor oil & good transmission fluid. You should be good to go, I'd add some AT205 Reseal to the oil,pwr steering, transmission fluid & rear differential to recondition the seals......I'm assuming it has very little rust, grease the ball joints, tie rods, etc.. if they need it.

If you will be traveling in the USA you may want to open a checking account in the USA and you can transfer money between your own accounts easier. CITI or Discover bank usually works well. If you have any issue with title or license look at South Dakota or Montana, you do not need to live in the states, South Dakota I think you can do the vehicle all online. If you decide to get a drivers license South Dakota is the best state for that also. If you need links let me know. Buying the van seemed easy just that pesky payment part.

Hi Guys, I lived in the US for 27 years i'm back in the UK now, those older RV's are a dime a dozen, main things to look for are the roof and the floor, they rot out over time, a lot of that depends on which state you buy from, another good place to find them is Craigslist, also cash is king, as another post said try and get a bank account, it'll make life so much easier, although you'll need a Social Security number , Paypal is a good option too for transactions, good luck

    Alex and Emma
I’m sure you’ve done the research but please make sure you can get insurance and preferably get the van mechanically inspected before buying. Get the insurance before taking delivery of the van also in case you have an accident, you will need the VIN. Our van is registered in Texas and you need insurance before you can do the required vehicle safety inspection before then going to DMV to get the van title in your name. I’m assuming that you are going to register it in Texas. Also remember that you need to pay sales tax (DMV will want to see the BoS to determine the tax amount) and registration fees when you go to DMV. Sorry to be so boring but this admin is messy in the US.
Try and get the van service records also. Oil changes on these old vans are every 3000 miles or so and if it’s been sat probably needs the oil change at least done.
You’ll have a great time once these teething payment and admin problems are sorted.
We travel around in a van similar to your proposed van and have a great time travelling over 50K miles in it.

I reckon buying older vehicles can be really good. As long as they are solid, not seriously rusty, don't worry too much about mechanical repairs. The older vehicles tend to be simple to repair, and if necessary parts can often be sourced second hand. Hope it goes well. (To prove the point, I have an 86 year old car, a 38 year old car, a 32 year old car, a 53 year old motorbike, a 34 year old motorbike and finally a 67 year old bicycle. No modern vehicles.)

I don't know if any one else has mentioned this yet. The US quite a few years ago had a $10000 limit on any money transfer including deposits and transfers (withdrawals) as part of a money laundering law. I ran into this a few years ago with my bank and all the information that they needed were in my US income tax returns. Even so, I had to fill out a form to point them in the right direction to find the documentation that I was legally in possession of that amount of money to put in my account or transfer to someone else. I cannot remember which it was. Your paper work may be a little more complicated with an international transfer depending on what the current limit on the amount is to require documentation. I do not know if this applies to you, but if your amount is over the current limit there is no way that they could manually override the block that was put on your transfer legally. If you are still having problems hope that this gives you information that might help.

Good luck with the van purchase, unfortunately the banks have us by the goolies all the time. We had an issue with our bank in the UK when buying ours, it took hours for the money to transfer even after we had forewarned them the day before and spent the best part of 2 hours on the phone trying to get answers to why they were blocking it, and this was from one UK bank to another UK bank. We left that bank shortly afterwards due to the terrible customer service.

Oh my goodness! What a rollercoaster of emotions for y'all. Sure hope next episode Emma will be behind the wheel of that RV. I think it's perfect. If y'all do get it and need a place to keep it, we own 10 acres close to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Same state as "The Adventures". We'll even take y'all out for a delicious catfish dinner. 😁

Welcome back, Beans! Hope this all turned out ok, we saw how it started in the last TEA vlog. Was great to see you all together and we can't wait to see what "y'all" 😜 get up to this summer. We'll be taking this one to bed with us tonight, so I'm clicking away before I see any spoilers in the comments before then.

I purchased a new Jeep when renting a house in Florida (holiday rental). We saw the Jeep and fell in love with it. The garage had doubts about the transfer of money from the UK. I phoned my manager and explained that we needed to make an immediate transfer to the garage’s bank. We had an appointment the next day and low and behold our funds were sitting in their account.
The largest issue we had was the insurance. We needed an American driving license for starters. In we went to book an appointment for our test and we’re told they could do one in an hour. We quickly studied the Highway Code whilst waiting. The entire experience was complete in an hour and we both passed. My only comment was that Europeans drive much too fast 💨 and to keep to the speed limits.
The next major problem was obtaining the insurance for driving in America for the remainder of our holiday. It was more than double the costs of the insurance in the UK and had to be for a year minimum. We shipped our Jeep back to Southampton docks and drove it home. I can’t for the life of me comprehend why your bank can’t do a TT or Swift payment from bank to bank. Perhaps you are trying to pay an individual rather than the bank with a named customer? Your other option is to do an immediate Bitcoin transfer. It’s completely free and totally safe providing you use an authorised organisation. It’s literally takes minutes. Open a US bank account to receive your funds and you purchase your Bitcoins with an immediate transfer and within a few seconds it will be paid into the currency of your choice with zero rates of exchange. It’s how we intend to buy our new home in America without paying the expenses of currency purchases and sales etc. I suggest you Google the best Bitcoin app for your needs.
Good luck and enjoy the fact that your Bank just lost their fees 😉

Maximus Bigness made me giggle, loving this collaboration, Eric and Alison are amazing people. I remember their adventures to my home country of Scotland 5 years ago.
You guys are in very good hands, buying a car is tough enough, but buying a camper that`s going to be your home is a whole new experience.
Looking forward to your next upload, its such a nice camper with everything you could need, wishing you many happy miles in it 🚐

I’m so excited for you guys. I really hope it goes through for you. I had a problem just last week with my bank. I wanted to do an on line bank transfer for £8000, to my brother. I had to ring the bank up and do some security checks. They asked all kinds of weird questions and kept repeating if there was a possibility someone was trying to scam me. I told them at least 6 times that the money was for my brother and it wasn’t a scam. I told them I was impressed that they were making sure no one was out to scam me but assured them everything was ok. Eventually they reluctantly allowed for me to transfer my own money to my brother. I hope the sale goes through for you and you can start making fantastic memories in your American camper van.

I did this in 2005, ended up having to open an american bank account with my same bank, then transferring to that account, then transferring to the RV seller 🙈
One BIG tip, make sure the RV is free of any lien (loan)
    Watching with interest 👍

I have always experienced international transfer or credit card withdrawal limits of about $4000 per day unless prior arrangements with the bank had been made, so was not surprised you couldn't do that in a day. in the past I've had to split larger international transfers over 2 or more days. Good luck, hope it goes smoothly for you!

If you want something unique, you could buy a box truck "cargo" and convert the cargo box into an R.V. hint: start the design with the bathroom, and design the rest around it.

As suggested before Wise is a good suggestion I haven’t use it myself . The other alternative is to go to a ATM. You can call your bank tell them you want to draw out the total amount from the ATM. You maybe be able to do it inside the seller bank. There are debit cards that will pay the fee back. I know this because I have done this in many different countries. It will be as close to the exchange rate as possible that day. The only problem is the seller need to be the one who deposited the money at the bank. So you hand her the money sign the contract she probably can get the bank officer to do the motorization. Then you have to go to DMV good luck

Can't believe you stopped it there!!! We all need to know if you got it sorted. 😱
I always used Transferwise (now just called Wise) for international transactions.
Hope you do manage to sort it, and can have your gorgeous new van soon.
