Trent, be ever so grateful you’ve got such an awesome relationship with your dad and to have parents that want to have hobbies with there children.
Yes, I have thought the same. They are so lucky!
In my scotch exploration I avoided the peaty ones like the plague because of others comments. Finally broke down and tried Laphroaig 10, to this day it is my favorite whiskey. Don't be afraid to try something, your tastes may be different than others.
Laphroaig 10 cask strength was my light bulb moment for peated scotch.
Mermaids Bath Water.
Delicious.
Laphroaig 10 is thus the only peated Scotch I've had (a slender budget isn't conducive to buying Scotch 🙂), and it's fantastic.
Bruh facts. I started easy with Bunahabain 12, then went to Highland Park 12, then Kilchoman Machir Bay Spec's pick, then Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie, and Ardbeg 5 was just outstanding to me and from what I've been told, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan are even better.
Then wait till you taste Ardberg
As always, it's great to see Bunnahabhain get some love. My entire scotch world changed when I discovered this exact bottle shoved in the corner of a shelf at a local privately owned liquor store. It's a non-peated Islay that has more character than Stephen Tobolowski in a 90's movie.
(For those scratching their heads on that Tobolowski reference, I just rewatched Sneakers, an underrated gem starring Robert Redford, Dan Akroyd, and Sidney Poitier.)
Arran 10 Scotch of the Year, 3yrs running. Best value
I LMAO when Trent had his “Beavis & Butthead” moment when the Naked Malt bottle was introduced!!!😂
Kurt.. I've been on a fairly long scotch journey myself, but I feel like we've walked ENTIRELY different paths on our journeys.. Abunadh was seriously the ONLY scotch that we have in common!
As a regular Scotch drinker, your selection is impressive -- useful categories and a superb choice of Scotch Whiskies! I hope the Bourbon fans will try out the ones that appeal to them!
I started with Scotch, went to Bourbon, and now I drink/collect both.
Yay for Scotch! All great bottles! Keep the scotch videos coming!
Ralfy is the best!
but he does not know much about bourbon. Scotch expert!
My first scotch was an Ardbeg 10 while having a charcuterie board, and I LOVED the band-aid smell and taste, have enjoyed the Ardbeg peaty ever since!
Nice to see some growth in trentons pallet.
Thank you for bringing up Ralfy! He’s a legend ❤
You guys are my favorite whiskey channel by miles. I love when you cover scotch etc
I was just roasting Trenton in the Discord this past Saturday about enjoying some peated scotch. 🤣 I just picked up my first Ardbeg, I went with Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie, and I think it's fantastic. I have had Bunahabain 12, Highland Park 12, Kilchoman Machir Bay Spec's pick, and now after breaking into Ardbeg, I can honestly say, I am a peat head for sure. I love my bourbon, but peat just lends so much character to what could otherwise be just a decent pour rather than a great or extraordinary pour.
My first peated scotch was the Ardbeg Uigeadail. The only way I could finish the bottle was to think of the fire scene in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It smells like the town burning down and tastes like ham, band-aids, and iodine. I have no idea how I know what those last two taste like but I'm 100% certain that's what they taste like. So if you get a bottle, try pretending you're a pirate. It worked for me.
😂😂😂
My first whisky love was Scotch, even taking several trips to Scotland (the homeland of my paternal lineage). After moving to Indiana 22 years ago, I developed a friendship with a local expert in the spirits industry and entered into a couple decades of tutelage in the bourbon world. At the time, decent bourbon was much less expensive than decent Scotch; not necessarily so much any more. At this point, being poly-spirit-ual, I enjoy both realms, but there is just something special about a great Scottish dram. Thanks for the entertainment, wisdom and honest perspective of your channel. Keep it up, guys!
P.S. - Great Selections! A couple I would add include Balvenie 12yr single barrel, and Lagavulin 18yr. While the malt in Balvenie single barrel is dried by a peat fire, it is completely isolated from the peat reek as it dries; thus the whiskey is malt and barrel driven without any smoke or peat adding to the notes. Conversely, Lagavulin is a rich islay alchemy of barley, peat, smoke, barrel and sea air. It is wonderfully complex and lovely.
Thanks Kurt, been waiting for a good scotch video.
As a Bourbon pro and Scotch novice, I always recommend Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. 14 years old, aged in Bourbon and Port casks. $70.
This was one of my first...solid recommendation :)
Love the list, excellent work. 3 bottles I think are missing... highland park, bruichladdich classic laddie and glenfarclas 12 thru 25 (pick 4 your budget)
The graphics must have taken forever! I so appreciate it when Trent goes that extra mile to mention them.
😂😂😂
Have a bottle of the Tamdhu 6. Absolutely love it. The compass box is also a great spring or summer pour. Great episode!
I love watching these videos it’s incredible the hard work and dedication they put into this channel! The best part about it is seeing a father and son partner together to make this channel so great it’s so amazing seeing the awesome relationship they have on camera! It’s amazing seeing a father and son come together and produce something excellent like this channel!
I'm so happy Naked made it in. That bottle has to be my favorite entry bottle to share with people. It is very bourbon friendly. Great name too.
I'm a bourbon guy, but just recently started exploring single malt scotch, because of you guys, love your content. I've found I actually like the peated scotches, specifically the Ardbeg 10 year.
My first love will always be Scotch!!
Thanks for the scotch content! Keep it coming
Great video, thank you! So far in my Scotch journey, my absolute favorite is PC 10, followed by Bunna 12.
I am so incredibly jealous of that Springbank 12! I have seen and bought Springbank 10 on a few occasions. I have a bottle of the 15 - my all time most favorite whisky. I have seen the 18 (but passed due to price). But I have never even seen the 12 in person. Great show!
Not drinking or appreciating scotch as a whiskey fan is kind of like living next to a national park but never visiting it.
Thank you so much for giving Scotch some love. Of your choices, I have had the Compass Box, the Bunnahabhain, and the Glenallachie. These are so good. I would also include the Craigellachie 13 Year, the Clynelish 14 Year and anything from Glenglassaugh. Sláinte.
Hello from Montreal. Bonjour. I agree that Ralfy and Phil are great channels to follow for Scotch. Great review guys. i love watching you guys. Remind me and my son tasting whiskeys. Thanks.
You’re tempting me to move into the single malts … I’ve had a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 … based on your videos and Phil, and one other guy … I’m going to pick up a Bunnahabain 12 and an Ardbeg 10 … but may have to go Port Charlotte …. Also may grab the Balvinie American sweet oak or the classic laddie, or the the arran 10. Too many to choose!!
And I’ll have to get a new cabinet, as bourbon and rye dominate my shelves now. 😂😂
One TH-cam Channel I like following for Scotch is "Scotch 4 Dummies" Four guys who review scotch/whiskey. Besides, they two are fellow Hoosiers! 😉
Great review. I am just starting into scotch. I have tried some of the bottles you shared. I would add Glendronach 12 and Highland Park Cs. Appreciate you
Trent - your Dad has an excellent and broad scotch whisky palate. Can’t believe you’ve got a Springbank CS. Just can’t get them in England except for silly money. Top recommendations - if you don’t like any of those, scotch just isn’t your jam!👏👏👏
Superb selection! Arran 10, Glen Allachie 12, Bunnahabhain 12, & Glenrothers are incredible
Was really hoping Trenton would try the Springbank. Since quitting smoking I can't handle peat, but even when I could I used to keep a Springbank 12 as a joke to laugh at guests. Never met a single person who liked it. The burning tires, eggs, and salt is so objectionable!
Would recommend the Glenallachie 15 as the best version of that line, and Glendronach 18 which is the best sherry whisky I've ever had. Of course that was more like a 22 year, so really I might be recommending the Parliament. Good list though, the Bunna 12 is absolute S tier scotch.
Great stuff! Love the scotches! Funny, the Bunnahabhain 12 was also a big player in the start of my scotch journey - thanks to a friend's recommendation. I had a taster a the ancNoc 18 a little while ago, but it's pushing $200 if finable in the NY area, sadly. I'd say, for me, I'll always need a Glenmorangie and a Compass Box on my shelf! Cheers
The Springbank 12 year is my favorite out of all bottles on the show. I have had about half of them!
I have yet to try a Scotch. Great reference for me to navigate where to start.
Hello from Scotland. This was really interesting. And all these places are real 😂 I would recommend Aberlour distillery.
Springbank is my favorite Scotch, unfortuantely in Germany they are expensive as hell.
I went to the Raasay distillery and did a tour. Phenomenal place. I have the whole lineup. I recommend the oak cask finished bottle!!
Nice video. Something different and an interesting mix.
I would add some of these (or consider):
Glen Scotia Victoriana
Laphroaig 10 YO or PX Cask
Klynelish 14 YO
Arran 18 YO
Ledaig 10 YO or 18 YO
The Balvenie 14 YO (Caribbean Cask)
Compass Box - Spice Tree
Kurt, keep going with the scotch videos, please. Love hearing your perspective.
The biggest omission, in my view, was Balvenie 12 Doublewood from the sherried category. That was my personal gateway scotch and a measuring stick for other scotches going forward.
Personally, I prefer the Balvanie 14 Caribbean Cask.
Personally, I prefer the Balvanie 14 Caribbean Cask
Nicely done 🥃
Thanks for the information on Scotch. I am definitely a novice when it comes to this but I am picking up bits of knowledge as I go and I like to see a video on Scotch anytime. I still prefer bourbon but I am having fun doing a little exploring in this category as well.
PAUL!!! Happy Monday to you!!!
@TheSpiritoftheCocktail Happy Monday to you as well my friend!
Trenton you could try bruichladdich the classic laddie. Super easy to drink and fairly reasonable!
Agreed. One of my go to's in Scotch.
Very nice video! I have a couple bottles that you showcased that I enjoy on occasion. The only Springbank I’ve seen is the green label 15 yr forold 170.00? The Aberlour is one of my favorites along with my Balvenie 14 yr Caribbean cask! Cheers
Great Lineup, I push the Classic Laddie on new Scotch Drinkers also
Was going to mention this same bottle. Great proofpoint @100. That bright teal color easy to hunt on the shelf too :)
Sherry cask peated scotches are the best. I have a bottle of Kilchoman Sanaig that is absolutely fantastic.
Great List, Am a Scotch Drinker with Bourbon Tendencies. Good list, I don't have 4 or 5 of those. Great List
as for the March Madness.... Im 100%, keep it up Kurt!!!! Trenton, 50% there bud, pick it up.... haha
The SLB Basement Scotch Bar. I like!
Me too!! Single malt scotch whiskies are the best and for me Islay peated is the best!! Cheers!!
Great content. I enjoy all whiskeys. I really appreciate reviews and education on bottles I can actually find!! I'm personally tired of reviews of BTAC, Pappy, Ect. I'll never own these as I work 12 hour days and dont have time to build realationships with retailers and refuse to pay over MSRP. My last two purchases have been Origin series bottled in bond and Redbreast PX. Both were at MSRP and delicious.
Look forward to trying a few of these.
Keep it up.
Excellent show tonight, as always. I agree with you about Ardbeg 10 - kind of a one-note smoke bomb. I really like Caol Ila 12 though, if you can find it. Also, I am lucky enough to have visited Campbeltown in 2019 and it's a magical place. Kurt, you would love it there. There was no soup factory, though, as far as I could see.
Hi guys, I've only been watching your channel from the Netherlands for a month now. And I really enjoy watching you guys. I'm normally more into Scotch whiskies, but lately I've been delving more into the world of bourbon. Can you name one or two of your favorite bourbon hits for me, which I really need to try if you like very sweet bourbons with a high proof? If you like GlenAllachie then you should really try the 10years cask strength, preferably batch 4,5,8,9.
Most classic episode ever!
Lagavulin 16yr for $85 is a staple on my scotch shelf!
Love this one, the Englishman in Mexico says go for abaloour all day , most will amaze. The best by a mile, Ralfy and OSWAS scotch of the year ,,Port Charlotte 100 proof is just the best , when they voted it a winner I just thought that real.
Trenton, you must take a step I bet in 20 years you will enjoy all scotches, little by little,
Great vid as usual and nice for new content , enjoy guys
10 yr heavily plated, I never liked pleated as a younger guy, avoided like the plague, Talisker Skye , the latest editions started me but the Port Charlotte is amazing cheers guys , enjoy them all
Wow. I had to go try one
Great job
For the price the Speyburn 15 and 18 are great. I also love the Highland Park 15 & 18 year old. Aberlour Abunah is awesome!!! Love the Scotch content…
Highland Park is one of my absolute favorites. Still have an unopened bottle of Dark Origins.. One of THE BEST scotches I've ever had!!
Thanks! Not a scotch guy(yet?) but enjoyed this.
You have a great collection
One of only two fails after following Kurt's advice was Glenallachie 12yo. Recently i found it opened up much after time and was much better. But when he said raisin as I was tasting it- I get raisin and I love it. Thanks for that

I love Scotch and just started drinking Bourbon recently. Balvenie 12 Double wood is great
Try the Caribbean Cask next, soooo much better imo
@@prccap my favorite right now, so good
@@prccapyep, it's the best!
I was hoping you mentioned ralfy- three books, a major documentary cameo and an absolute wealth of information. Plus he’s entertaining.
Trenton was actually correct about Orchard House, it is peated! It contains Caol Ila as part of the blend. And yes, you can pick it up in the nose.
Caol Ila is a personal favorite, although these days it's been replaced by the Kilkomens for me.
Campbell's soup is from Camden, NJ! 😂
I would've put Glenmorangie 10 on the list! It's aged in bourbon barrels and is a softer, honey and vanilla Highland Scotch that would act as a good crossover for bourbon drinkers. Super affordable and available and great quality too. One of my faves
Love anything Aberlour has.
The bealvine any bottle really.
The bunnahabin 12 year is excellent!
I'm still getting into Scotch but enjoyed getting a "sample pack" if you will of glenmorangie as well as a Costco sampler of different regions to help me get into it. Two that I'm surprised aren't on the list would be the dalmore 12 which I absolutely love. And I'm not a peated fan but Lagavulin usually makes an appearance on these.
No Johnnie Walker, Oban, Glenmorangie, etc you're definitely doing a deep dive in scottish bottles and it's impressive.
I haven't had them all, but great collection.
I prefer Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Kilchoman, over port Charlotte, because I prefer the more ocean type peat.
Id replace the Glenlivet 12 with Compass Box Glasgow. Of the budget ones I've had, it is far superior.
I'd also have a hard time not including Ledaig 10, but obviously you have to stop somewhere.
And you overlooked probably the second or third best bottle shown.
That would be Benromach cask strength for around $90. It's the closest thing to Campbelltown you can find.
I haven't had their 15, but people really like that one as well.
It would be interesting to know what Trenton's top ones are.
Aberlour 12got me hooked on Scotch!!!
That's one of my favorites good price for a great sip
You can’t talk about ralfy and forget about the malt mentions… 😂 I was initially a scotch fan who got into bourbon later on.. I was not a fan of peated ones until I discovered the right way to drink it… you’ve to add a few drops of water to the peated ones to find the right balance for your palate.. I had a love hate relationship with my ardbeg uiegdail but it’s now a fav! I have an octomore that’s got the most ppm (157 something) and adding 3-5 drops of water makes it magically awesome
Chivas Regal 18 was my introduction to scotch whiskey. These days I prefer peated Islay scotch (Lagavulin 16) 🥃
Reminder to put the links to their channels in the description, please! :)
Trenton will eventually be a big time scotch fan. Just wait. 😂
Lagavulin 16 and Caolila 12 are two worth mentioning.
Wish you did an Irish whiskey blind. Grabbed a bottle of Bushmills Red Bush for St. Patrick’s day. Not horrible, but it was a total shot in the dark
I'm a bourbon guy. I bought the costo tour of scotland pack to try out the different scotch varieties, and have a bottle of Belvenie double wood. To me (in my very limited exposure) scotch just doesn't compare to bourbon flavor wise. Maybe it's because I'm a proof hound and most scotch is lower abv comparatively, I dunno, but bourbon is just so much better to me. Maybe I need to try more stuff.
It would be very entertaining to the viewers to see Trenton's reaction tasting Laphroaig 10 cask strength and Ardbeg Corryvreckan... Thanks for producing your very entertaining whisky reviews
Try benromach cask strength
I'm not a peat fan but I really enjoy the Glenlivet 14.
I haven't watched this yet, but I couldn't resist commenting on the title. It's kind of like Steve Martin said, How To Be A Millionaire and never pay taxes. First, get a million dollars!
Great episode. Bourbon outsells Scotch whisky 2 to 1 in the US but Scotch globally outsells bourbon. If you are a whisky drinker you really should try everything. You might be surprised and change your preconceptions. It wasn't that long ago where rye whiskey was only for Canadians and Americans would rarely drink it. Now it's everywhere and made by almost every distillery. If you tried rye you should try Scotch and Irish and Japanese and others.
Have Trenton try the Glenmorangie Signet or Hazelburn 15 Cask strength. Just some things I think he would like.
I have the old bottle of the arran 10. Is it different juice than the new bottle
Probably.
Great explanation of all the scorch and Catigories.
Scotch Test Dummies is great too.
Laphroig 10 my suggestion for readily available Peated scotch. Laphroig Select is more smoke without bandaid or brine if you want to introduce novices to a more strongly flavored but still approachable. Port charlotte is my introductory peat pour .Johnnie Walker green label if you want a baby step into smoke
Balvenie double wood 12 is phenomenal for arouns 80 bucks as well
My go to is Glenlivet 14. Can’t go wrong
Kurt your prices are way off in my area. The Glenrothes Makers Cut is $100. Abalour A'bundah is $125. Ancoc 18 is $190. The Springbank cask strength is near $200 if you can ever find it. You do have some good cheap bottles like the Speyburn, Orchard House, Naked Malt and the excellent Glen Caddam. For value I'd add the Kilchoman Machir Bay for bourbon matured and the Kilchoman Sanaig for sherry. They are $65 and $70 respectively. Both are Islay, craft grain to glass and moderately peated.
Bruichladdie Classic Laddie.
American single malt is the future. I collected a bunch from before 2020 and the trend of grain forward flavors was almost 100% universal. Not good. Not competitive with Scotch.
More recently big proof bottles are much better. Balcones , DelBac, Westland --- the big names- all rock and roll balanced flavors.
I'm still seeing bottles at leas than 45%, WTF? It's hard to find single casks and cask strength in upstate NY stores where craft distileries are everywhere. In the other hand some bottles are 41-43%, that's not going to happen without trying first.
All these Scotch bottles are good suggestions on the journey. If you prefer the malted barley instead of corn. Peat shows up in almost half my collection. Hard to believe but it really mellows into a more subtle flavor note with experience. Like oak tannins come thru in bourbon, strong and distinct but just one of many flavors.
I know its there and I can tell if it's Laphroaig or not but the barley sugars and barrel sweetnes is more prominent that the peat. People in the gasp and gag from the smell but to bad for them.
It seemed that the American distilling style didn't bring out the barley sugars like Scotch. Also, new charred oak overpowers malt, giving us those those stronger bourbon flavors, so that's a fail. We're getting better, IMHO.
