anytime drugs get involved your not the same, it takes your soul first, then your looks. then everything else. no matter who you are. it's the ones that knew you when you was you. that suffer the most.
He looked terrible here - and he was lip-sync'ing - BUT look at his movements and dancing! He still has the rythm in his body . He could have gotten a great comeback - had he stayed off the drugs.
Man, I don't give a fuck. Frankie's a real man. Somebody who's been on drugs real bad, getting up and trying to take back their life by using his god given talent, singing. Most people would say: ''man I'm through, I ain't got it nomore'', frankie said, ''Singing is me, not the life I chosen for it''. Frankie, your a hero!
Just another Joe? Dude must have never heard Frankie's music after his voice changed. It wasn't that he couldn't sing anymore. His voice matured. Frankie still had range and could sing his ass off. The issue was, everyone wanted to keep him in a box. I just wish he had someone around him in the business that could have helped him take his career from a child star to an adult star. It's hard for fans to except a child star as an adult, especially when their voice changes. RIP
ALH 723 That's what Elvis must have been thinking cuz they brought in Col Tom parker And Nike Tyson even had help with Don King! I think Col Parker only commanded 50% and Don King ... well all he could steal!
This is a sad video with Frankie Lymon with crack tooth and lip singing in his past little kid voice of the 1950's as a adult in 1960's.By this time drug's was in his life.In a few year's Frankie would be dead of a drug overdose.
He was in bad shape but he didn't have nothing but blood suckers around him. What ever reason his life may have been he was somebody. For those who always talk negative about people. Will you be remembered like him.Take a walk in others shoes some time.
I feel badly for him here, he's clearly older and didn't sing that way anymore, he was desperate to get back into the scene and everyone had moved past doowop.
This is not about skin colour! This is about a little kid of 13 years 'making it big time' with his own talent of writing and performing. Trying to chaise this success later in life, just to be rejected. Sinking so deep that he lip-synched to the recording of his 13 year-old self in this video. This was Frankie's last TV performance and three years later he died on a heroin overdose. It's a vey special recording. Such a sad story and such a great unique voice and talent lost.
I agree with everything AJH 723 said: " I just wish he had someone around him in the business that could have helped him take his career from a child star to an adult star" Could the same be said about Michael Jackson? Thanks for the upload.
I do not belive this bullshit about frankie finishing up two of his last song, and being so happy that he decided to use herion knowing what it did to him. I feel he was depressed. And I hate when people try to remember him, and say ''Oh he was a Herion Addict''. He was a muthafuckin man. He sang because God gave him that gift and he used it. He was a human just like all of us. In fact, I belive he gave rap birth, just from his poetry he'd say in his rhymes. Frankie, The Best.
I like Jimmy Castor, but I don't like his comment. So what if Frankie was what Jimmy calls "egotistical." He better have had the confidence to tell people what time it was with him. People do all they can to try to tear you down in general. The more talented you are and the more you have to offer, the more others try to hold you back and break you down. Also, Jimmy Castor and Jimmy Merchant should stop yelling sour grapes at a person who was a child under the influence of drugs.
dude at the end sounds like a hater. I've listened to songs here on YT lately of Frankie as an adult that I've never heard and FRANKIE ALWAYS HAD THE VOICE. ALWAYS. Have several seats.
as a kid from Paterson NJ I remember seeing his tombstone in the window of a Clifton NJ record store and my mom telling me she seen him live, at the armory, in Paterson NJ.
@kmc187274 Its like their rhythm is a little off and most of them just dance with no groove. You got to dance on the beat. You gotta let the music get in you, feel it, and just move smooth.
Haha, Im sad to inform you that he is lip syncing in this video! His voice changed alot and he wasnt managed right. If u look up the songs called, somewhere, i put the bomp, im sorry, (their all on youtube) u will be able to hear his voice when he got older. Theres also a song, Jailhouse rock which was made around the time his voice started changing. In my opinion he was still a good singer....
@MsReeReeChiq I get what he was saying though. Let's not go too far either. Frankie didn't have a lot of success after the Teengaers, either. His biggest solo hit was still a record that was heavily associated with the group even though he was on it solo, he even says that himself I believe in the Ebony mag interview that record companies wasn't too interested in him as a solo artist either, even before he lost his voice.
Ive heard different times, some say 1961, but I believe its either 64-65 before he joined the milatary! I do know this is his last performance on tv. I like it, but at the same time its sad, his teeth are messed up and he looks kind of dope sick.
Jimmy Castor was a protege of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. I think he even filled in a few times for Lymon after Lymon left. There is a song from the late 50's by Castor that Lymon also did..... I Promise to Remember
@kmc187274 Your silly. It's not God's plan for anyone to die. He wants everyone to live a long good life, but when you don't make the right choices, you have to suffer and pain for your sin, you know reap what you sow!
@jazzylinn ....... Yeah this one definately hurts to see.... I hate what drugs did to alot of people... most of my friends are dead or in prison because of that lifestyle.. I was lucky to get out :)
His Face Looks So Bad in This Clip! Poor Thing...He's Missing a Tooth! Why Did You Not Upload The Entire Video? I Wanted to Understand Him More....PLEASE RESPOND?!
He was lip syncing as he could no longer sing high like when he was younger (drugs played a huge part in this) - very tragic end for such a talented young man.
+JootsGarlandGrl He was quite capable of singing very well but "marketing experts" thought the audience wanted to hear his pre-puberty voice. There is lot os material on the net where you can hear how wonderful his adult-voice singng was. Drugs did not damage his voice. His voice was not damaged. His voiced underwent the normal change of puberty; he learned how to control his new voice. In many ways, his adult voice was better than his child voice. Instead of high and piercing, it had a wonderful resonance, warmth, range of colors, and apparent sincerity. He was effin talented and taking heroin does not remove talent unless you take way too much. Because it is a depressant, it doesn't deprive you of sleep and biological regeneration. When you are overworked, it lets you go to sleep. It is the stimulants that do enable to work so hard you damage yourself.
+Theodore Zuckerman Ur right...l heard that song seabreeze as an adult he sounded just fine. Voice was beautiful as a grown man..just like his voice was cute as a teenager. He just died before he could have someone help him convert totally and fit into the newer wave of music coming in. Not try to keep him a dam child.... oh well RIP always to Franky.
my question is why the TV show let him go on lookin like that knowin he wasnt right. they couldve given him implants or somethin to cover up the missin teeth.
i cant even watch the rest of the video...he looks so bad, its sad to see him like that...my dad started looking that same way once the heroin took over..RIP FRANKIE LYMON AND LARRY JAMES JR!
Sad. couldn't buy a hit by the mid sixties. The voice that launched so many female singers, not in the least, Ronnie Spector or Veronica Bennett depending on one's viewpoint....
@Love4FrankieLymon Yeeeah I saw this before I heard his other songs (ahah), the ones he recorded shortly before he passed (Seabreeze is AMAZING). I'm not going by the movie, from seeing this video. The movie was trash. I do think he was trying to get back to his fan base here.. or something cuz it just seems desperate to me. But hey I dunno what he was trying to do here cuz I wasn't him.
Your right MJ didnt have anything on Frankie. Sometimes I think about all the great performers and there sad demise into drugs, death or obscurity and I wonder what they would be like if they were still alive or would have had a few different choices. But then I become grateful for what they do have to give us, their music, their story, their tradgedy. Then I remember that God doesnt make mistakes and what happened to them is exactly Gods plan.... :)
I dont think Lymon was that much a song writing genious. Alot of his songs were written years before him, especially the songs from the Rock N' Roll album. He had alot of talent tho... I love his stuff!
yea, and he lipsynched his old voice to the song because he no longer sounded the same of course because he was 13 at the time, but also because of the drugs.. he does look bad in this one
wow, you can actually see the negative effect of the drug use, the narrarator of the documentary I saw years back made the observation that he began loosing teeth, and it's obvious in this clip. Also I believe that he was 25 when he made this appearance, but because his voice had changed so much and possible damage from drug use to his vocal chords.. he had to lipsink the song of when he was 13 ..he could've had a promising future...thanks for sharing..
Yo on some real shit, I'm sorry man. You should Thank God that he didn't let that shit take you. You'll still have an addiction, but you'll be EVEN stronger man not doing that shit.
Sad to say but in this video he looks like they put a lot of make up on his face almost looks like when your laying in a casket and the person just doesn’t look the same ... I used to snort heroin after I got shot I got addicted to it when I ran out of pain medication. I did that shit for 7 years until last may. That shit feels so good, but it takes your soul!

Wow.....You Are Speaking The Truth Sir.
I really hate seeing him like this.. 😢😒
His voice was still good as an adult. Listen to seabreeze that he last recorded
He was lip singing
Not "Seabreeze". That was his own voice - the mature voice.
Super Facts 💯👏 The industrie Black ball him.
I loved his adult voice. I love the song Seabreeze! Beautiful yet haunting. Sad.....

that guy was Jimmy Castor
Everyone feared for when Justin Beiber would hit puberty but he turned out fine
he still had a great voice, but it was not what the audiences wanted, they wanted frankies classic falsetto voice

They should have had him do one of his more current songs. He did record throughout the '60s, but none of those records were hits.

No man Frankie could sing and dance
Didn't know that people knew about his drug problem. I guess it was pretty obvious
this is a prime example of what happens when an extraordinary talent goes to drugs. he looks sick
This past August, Whitney Elizabeth Houston would have turned--are you ready--60; remember what drugs did to her.
I’m honestly trying to fathom how can y’all tell how bad his skin and stuff looks in a black and white video🤔🤯....
Right! Lol I dont think he looks as bad as everyone is saying , other than his missing tooth he looks the same to me

@MsReeReeChiq I get what he was saying though. Let's not go too far either. Frankie didn't have a lot of success after the Teengaers, either. I don't know I think they were friends though. Frankie Lymon had a lot of talent for a young boy. He could out do most singers.
After watching this video for the millionth time I want to ask the question.. why do white girls dance so gay? haha
