    This car never was meant to be build for performance aspects! Lexus this outstanding job with this car, period, i have one the F-SPORT version and all i can say is that i have no words how amazing this car is, i dont care abt any of the performance stuff because all i need is superior quietness and excellent driving refinements, anybody who is looking for serious performance out of this car wont get it so all the people out there if u want performance car get performance car, this is a excellent family sedan with little bit of sportiness.

    Lexus did not make ES F sport to beat or replace GS. According to the Lexus ES chief engineer, the example was LS. 2019 ES was made for comfort, quiet and roomy cabin, and also the design. They did not want to lose the "base" of ES. When the president of Toyota drove the new ES, he gave the words to the chief engineer "he wanted to keep driving," and that made the chief very happy.

      Peter 63 - Yep. I got an 2019 A6 3 weeks ago and already had to take in shop twice already. Lower touch screen dash not responsive, Auto Headlights won’t turn off my headlights in broad daylight, and now creaking noise on sunroof. My wife also has a 2018 Lexus RX, and that car is astoundingly comfortable and quiet, and all bells and whistles works perfectly.

    I also get 19.7 mpg average with 60 % city -local driving. 3.5 liter is a large V6 same as in RX350. I think having many bells and whistles contributes to ho hum mileage. My white (not Camry) with red seat 2019 ES350 F Sport feels very fast. Its 400 lbs lighter than Panamera 4.
    I will take on Panamera 4S or turbo anytime. It’s not just nice comfortable riding car with all the creatures comforts, high techs, and safety features better than Mercedes E. It’s also less visits to the dealership. As for me its really a lion in sheepskin.

    ES 350 f sport is a great looking and an amazing package for the money. ES will never replace the GS. Look for a future IS that's a little bigger to carry the load. Even an es with AWD wouldn't be the same as the GS since GS is rwd biased and built from the ground up to be a more visceral experience. The ES is built to be a buttery smooth relaxing quiet ride.

    • @rdefacendis
      @rdefacendis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agree, although the adaptive dampers on the F sport create a sharper experience in the corners in Sport+ mode. It is a great all around highway cruiser that can still dance just a wee bit, when you tighten up the dampers. No one will mistake this for a 540i mind you.. Then again, in Canada the 540i with even a few basic options is a whopping $30,000 more expensive than an ES350. It plays in a different space. But where the Lexus will trounce the BMW is in build quality and reliability.

      The upcoming LF-1 is what the GS is going to become. Lexus always intended the GS to be a sporting flagship that sat next to the LS, rather than slightly below it in the Lexus lineup. Transforming the GS into a sport wagon gives it its own identity. Should be unveiled in 2020 as a 2021 model!

      Access. While what we do is telling stories about cars, it is still very much a business. As such, timely access to cars is a HUGE factor. Get a car too late, the cost of production stays the same but the ROI drops drastically. OEMs pick and choose who they want to do business with, which we have to respect. However, we also get to pick and choose who we do business with based on a number of factors including the cars they produce, ROI, interest level to viewers which is all balanced against timely access. As a small, *independent* media company, all our films have to stand on their own to support our business. As such, if an OEM like Honda chooses not to make us a priority, we may not like it but we still have to control our business and move forward. Key rule in leadership: It's not what you preach - it's what you tolerate. As such, we prioritize those who chose to prioritize us.

    I’d choose the Lexus. I like Hyundai’s products BUT the dealership network is horrendous. I avoid the dealership here in my town because it simply does not feel good to even go in and look for cars, whereas at Lexus, I feel comfortable and have only heard good things from other owners. All things being equal, it’d be a much harder call between the Hyundai and Lexus.

  • @thecriticalthinkeroutsidet4947

    Is it worth the upgrade from the GS?
    I'd say... probably not, although it is improved from the previous generation. The Lexus ES still is great in the premium mid-size sedan segment that's smooth, comfortable, luxurious, easy-to-live with, and now looks great and has pizzazz. Although it's still not rivaling the 5-Series, A6, so on and so forth and rivals the LaCrosse and MKZ, the new ES is overall a guilty pleasure to me, and it's great on what it does in its own world, which no wonder is a big money-maker for Lexus. While I know many people might still call it the gussied-up Camry that it started it's life as, the ES actually shares the same platform with the flagship full-size Avalon sedan now (the new Avalon by the way is almost a masterpiece to me), since the previous generation.
    Hoping that Lexus keeps the GS alive however if they really want to show thay they can change their sedan game even more seriously so.... nonetheless, I had good times with the new ES, and I'm curious to see how it holds up.

    I want wireless CarPlay in my next car but don't want to have to buy a BMW :) It's taken about 4 years for nearly all OEMs to get the wired version and it will probably be the same again for wireless. Wireless CarPlay needs a Wifi chip which aren't that common in cars so until they are as common as USB it's going to be a while. I believe Harman makes most of the electronics for the OEM systems and they are starting to roll out a wireless version apparently. Pioneer have an aftermarket unit. Mercedes MBUX supposedly has it but no video evidence in the wild has yet emerged …. although I heard a rumour it was in the newest Sprinter vans already ! The other thing I am after as you know is turn directions on the instrument cluster when navigating with CarPlay maps. Again announced by Apple about three years ago. Not sure why no one does it yet, there must be some technical complication. Even Alpine that do replacement OEM units for VW, Merc etc that use TomTom nav only show directions for TomTom and not CarPlay which I find really strange as they are painting many things to the instrument cluster.

    Lexus all the way. 1 Main reason is the fact that the car will be running just as good in 10 ,15 years as it does now. 10 year old Hyundai’s are not as good as a 10 yo Toyota or Lexus for that matter

    Toyota really needs to update their interior. The steering wheel and dash are so outdated. How about angling the long screen toward the one person it matters most to, the driver.

    The case with BMW or Mercedes these days, is that, they will be partially dead after 3 years, as soon as warranty ends, details start getting broken, and there will be loss 2 or even 3 times in price. That is why Lexus expensive, for what it gives. Reliability.

    I still understand the concept of the ES, its slightly upscale from the avalon and a well rounded car overall, I like the G80 offering better for the driver experience as well as its offering of luxury. some have said Hyundai products suck but I would differ in opinion.

      christopher locus I agree the Genesis G80 , looks more upscale, it has more power 311 hp for the 3.8 L V6 and it has the Sport 3.3L TTV6 with 365hp and the V8 with 420 hp so it has many engine options and it has important standard features like driver assistance technologies and convenience features

      @cargueone1971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      mgmcd1 except the ES is no longer built in Japan. I don’t trust anything built at the TMMK plant. I got nothing but poorly built Toyotas. It got to a point that Akio Toyoda had to make a visit and tell employees to step up, or they will close the plant down.

    • @mgmcd1
      @mgmcd1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carlos Guevara my ES has a J VIN, so was built in Japan. I traded a 4K VIN Avalon hybrid on it that I had no problem with for 5 years.

      @@mgmcd1 That's not a new one. The new ones are built in Kentucky. Maybe say, 10 percent are built in Japan. My family has owned Toyotas for 50 years, and 30 of mine. I have a great experience with them. Also I drive them 30k miles a year and get to know their weakness. Toyotas tend to be mechanically from the engine point, fine, but for some reason, their American plants assemble the body and interior pieces very sloppy in the mid 2000s year period. For Akio Toyoda to give them (TMMK) an ultimatum, means I wasn't alone in noticing it. Also, 4 years in, is still considered new. I still recommend Toyotas, and are my favorite manufacturer, but Im not blind to their current growing pains of change within the company during recent years. With the Koreans getting better each day, it woke Toyota up to go back to the old quality days. I will agree that the ES is a smooth car.

    • @mgmcd1
      @mgmcd1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carlos Guevara agreed. I have owned maybe a dozen in the last 20 years, starting with an 87 Corolla around 2000. I haven’t bought anything else. I’ve had a few TSBs, even on Japanese assembled cars, but dodged the 2007 Camry hybrid ring issue by selling early.

    Nice car (not sure I like the Samurai helmet looking instrument cluster or little cheap silver buttons from a 2012 Camry, I don't get it. If Lexus gets rid of GS, not sure I will be a fan anymore. I just traded in my 2010 LS460 (which I loved) for a GS 350 F-Sport, both rear wheel drive. GS has blown me away. LS was a little bloated, like driving a small apartment, while GS is more nimble, sporting driving experience, and perfect interior. I look for reasons to drive it but #corona is raining on my parade. We will all have to get used to living in a world with no rear wheel drive or combustion engines in a few years anyway so I am keeping my GS until the wheel come off which will probably be a very long time.

    They better hope so. But as an owner of the New Gs F Sport. Comparing the new ES to the GSFSPORT is like comparing apples to oranges. I was able to have the Es for one week while I had a service issue with my sunroof. Well I couldn’t wait to get my car back. The Front wheel generics are horrible. In my opinion the back felt light and I wanted to put metal barbell weights in the trunk . Like I did in my 78 coupe deville. The head room is considerably lower. Dashboard is outright ugly.
    If they end the Gs. I will find another nice car. This Es is certainly not for me. Ugh

    • @msshepherd3324
      @msshepherd3324 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is all up to the person's preference. I do not need a performance car, so I am enjoying my ES 350 F-sport. I do not live in north so I don't need AWD. On rainy days, FWD is better than RWD if the car does not have AWD. GS is more expensive, and requires premium gas. ES does not requires premium, which I did not know until after I purchased it but it is a money saver. Like you mention, GS and ES are made for different purposes, have different targets. You cannot compare them. I considered BMW and Audi before purchasing ES but never GS because GS does not fit my needs or desire. I am not criticizing GS, though, like you are doing so on ES. I am just saying everyone has different views, needs, budget, opinions, and they are all good.

    I can't lie, the swanky looking G80 with more power than all of them and loaded with features would be hard to pass up with all things equal. (sticker price, lease terms) However if I wanted to keep one of them longer than 3-4 years it would have to be the Lexus ES wich is not likely to break after the warranty ends and hold more of it's value when the time comes to sell or trade in. Having said that, all the same applies to the GS 350 F Sport yet it's better to drive and looks better to my eyes. The downside of the GS is the rear seat room, but it's not that bad really, and I'd never choose a car with passengers as priority. (Yes, I'm a selfish bastard, gulity as charged😁)
