I know its just a film but, What would taking command of the ISS accomplish, during a nuclear war? What in the ISS would make it a strategic asset during wartime, particularly during nuclear wartime, especially when its unlikely that you would be able to retrieve from and send people to the ISS?
You’d think that all astronauts no matter the country would work together to survive until the war ends or worse case scenario, try to find a way off the station together. Just my thoughts.
they've done that movie already...which is why they went the dumb way. Also, its war propaganda designed to get you to hate Russians more...it seems like from the trailer. Who knows, maybe there is a twist
@@andypitchlessMy position could be critical to the war effort. I should maybe follow my directives, just in case I'm the one to fuck my country over for not doing what was necessary.
Are you kidding? We only survived as a species by WIPING OUT OTHERS, knowing when to run, and knowing when to kill. Kill or be killed? Watch knives come out. That part of the movie is 100% realistic. None of us want to admit it. Don’t confuse Hollywood with reality. Ever hear of a panic? People are known to *trample* people in a panic we run. Live people literally run over…by people. Death is by FEAR of a situation. Kill or be killed. Hollywood: “We gotta stick together!” “We are all on the ISS! Team!” Reality: killing starts PDQ. I saw an advanced screening and spoiler alert: The Russians kill the weak Americans as they say they need to stick together. The climax of the movie is a ceasefire has been drawn up, but a rocket cannot reach them Until food will be have exhausted so the Russians kill the Americans and survive until a rocket from Mexico arrives. Humanity’s remaining people all go to South & Central America. The Americans are shown to be dead in the ISS holding a sign saying “We died so the world may live.”
Somehow this whole plot idea leaves me flat. In such a situation nothing the ISS astronauts did would affect the outcome on the ground. At that point they might as well fight over who controls Disneyland. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate the fantasy.

the premis of this film boggles the mind that any Astronaut today seeing the world self destruct below would atempt to do anything this plot requires. Just cant suspend disbelif enough to enjoy this.
I know. Quick lets fight for the space station and after the world is at war has no strategic value. No ones going up and no ones coming down. At the most they manage to scrap toget a pod and land on some remote island. At the least they stay up there till they die.

I wanna see this film, might even do suprisingly well . Even curious to see the behind the scenes features just to hear the writer/s director's explanation of the events of the story. But I don't think at least at first the astronauts representing any of those country's would try to take the station if they knew they're would most likely not be a planet to return to. I think their main concern would be survival or how accepting their fates and trying to cope with what little of time they have to live due to the circumstances. Because unless the space stations are now equipped with some evacuation ship/vehicle and they can navigate it towards Antartica, their ain't much hope.
I believe the reason for the astronauts to really turn on eachother like that, isn't really based off following government orders, but more so paranoia. They would be so paranoid that the other country got the same orders that they just want to survive. So they are gonna do what they can to survive
there is an "evacuation vehicle" that they could use, the soyuz capsule can re-enter and land safely in a lot of places (it's actually shown detached and moving away from the ISS at 1:56) it also doesnt look like the entire world has ended so i assume they only have to detach the soyuz and re-enter on the other side of the earth

@@mrouschkateer Nobody debates it's being a movie. What I say is that it's a stupid movie. A movie has to explain why things happen in it, and/or establish the initial conditions in it, for it to make sense. Characters have to act in it consistent with their motivations, attributes and the situation. If a movie doesn't or can't do that, then it's just a bad movie. Like if this movie would establish that the Devil took posession of the Russian astronaut, then the Russian astronaut's behavior would make sense - despite there being no proof for the existence of the Devil in reality. However, if it does no such thing, and just makes a character that's supposed to be one of the smartest, most knowledgeable and most stress-prone of its country act completely irrational and utterly stupid way, despite his actions being premediated, then it's just a bad movie. Pretty idiotic concept. ISS crew is not military. They have no capability to verify the orders transmitted. Basically the only order they may follow is to evacuate the station immediately and land in some neutral countries.
Exactly! Only an idiot or some politically sick person could write such script. People on the ISS fighting each other instead of trying to survive... What a *garbage movie!*
I think this comment is pretty idiotic. You didn’t see that they verified any orders. Just that they got them. And then they said Russians must have got same orders. And then they say Russians struck first. So yea a movie about paranoia getting the best of professionals while everyone says “that would never happen” is perfect

You act like scientists are superhuman, as if they were Vulcans, driven purely by logic or reason. The truth is, outside of their area of expertise, they are just as governed by emotions as your average person. Even within their respective disciplines, they can often be sectarian and dogmatic. They are just as susceptible to tribalism, and the conflict that grows from it as anyone else. Remember, many of the scientists in Nazi Germany were diehard believers in bogus ideas about racial hygiene. Isaac Newton believed in alchemy and espoused ideas of the occult. James Watson, the famous scientist who, along with Francis Crick discovered DNA, was a racist and sexist. As recently as the 1950s, doctors were endorsing cigarette smoking. In even more recent times, many scientists were on opposite sides of the pandemic debate, and disagreed vehemently on the origins of the virus, masking, social distancing and vaccination, and sought to get each other cancelled for holding differing opinions. Scientists are hardly immune to the worst inclinations of humanity.

This is rediculous cause these people have bonded, have become friends, have shared in something so miraculous.... It's heartbreaking really. All fighting and all war is, but to put a small group of people in space together and tell them to go to war, just heartbreaking. This worse part is the paranoia of not knowing what the other side is gonna do could cause you to to attack first to save yourself. It would be best if they could all make it very very clear that they are safe so that no one loses it to paranoia.
Yes this would not happen under most circumstances - probably reject their governments commands and work together; what is the point of following orders from a dying earth? (not that I know the full plot of course) We can surmise that perhaps they do end up rebelling against this as it would be pointless to fight and kill to preserve the station which probably can't operate, at least for very long, without earth-based help.
Well, I'd follow the orders. Because if the Russians aren't acting right and gonna start causing Troubles up in Space, then Americans are gonna give it to Them really hard.
The Chinese Cosmonaut and Russian Cosmonaut on their own space station will be like drinking coffee and tea while everyone on ISS killing each other lol
First, the ending scene of Oppenheimer, then the fallout TV series, now this film? And to mention the current tensions in the middle east and Ukraine. It’s the Cold War all over again… The Elites are itching for this to happen
Let's try to guess what the movie will be about. On the ISS, on the one hand, there will be a block of Americans who work from the power of love, and also only if there is a strong, independent woman in the crew (the hatch won’t even open there if there is little diversity in the arriving crew), on the other hand, a block of Russians who are wrapped in tape, runs exclusively on vodka (the hatch won’t even open if the arriving crew includes at least one non-drunk cosmonaut) Good American astronauts, of course, will try to the last to avoid conflict, because America is the most peace-loving nation. Russians, on the contrary, will immediately behave aggressively, because we all know that all Russians (even astronauts) are purely evil and barbaric. And of course, at the end we will see a “heartbreaking” moment when there is only one survivor left on each side. From the American side, this is, of course, a strong independent woman (after all, stupid men simply don’t know how to survive); from the Russian side, this will be a not completely evil (but still a little drunk) man who, of course, will sacrifice himself (but how else can we show “heroism” , except to sacrifice himself in the name of the American), and on the only transport he will send a woman to earth (in the Fallout series), and then press the BIG RED BUTTON and blow up the station.
Russia will continue to exist long after the scumbag Putin is dead and rotting, so it makes sense that the U.S. would want to keep room for the restoration of relations
Fun-fact: originally when the script came up it was black listed as bellicose, inflammatory, and an insult to world leaders. When Putin invaded Ukraine the studios quickly green-lit is now a plausible movie (in universe). The movie has already been banned in Russia as it is revealed Russia-led by very angry bloggers-strikes first. During the ensuing conflict China attempts to invade Taiwan and North Korea invades South Korea. Iran figures it is the best time to launch the two nuclear warheads it is had, but Israel intercepted both and destroys Tehran and all facilities in retribution. As the multi-conflict rages on no further orders are heard from Russia. Signals from US suddenly are heard with Spanish as well. A week later a rocket from Mexico’s space program arrives. The Russians on the ISS surrendered having confirmation no government is in control in Russia and the nation has fallen apart and is mainly burned out. Together with the subdued Russians all return with the Americans to Mexico where South and Central America were largely spared. With what is left of humanity there, along with what is left in Pacific rim and Middle East rockets are shown being constructed presumably to start heading to Mars.

Let me get this straight… there’s a nuclear war and half the earth is on fire and millions upon millions of people are dead, yet two countries through all the chaos and madness decide that their #1 goal is to secure a space station with 10 people aboard?

Boring.. last thing, Astronauts are not stupids ok!!
The use of music in this trailer is beautifully haunting - the incongruity of such a classic catchy song against the backdrop of the violence and paranoia. Even though the song itself "Wind of Change" is about the opening up of the Soviet Union during perestroika and the possibilities of a peace and an end to the cold war, so it's totally appropriate from a lyrical perspective.
What's interesting about the song - which I hate with a passion, and always have - is that when it was released, nobody could have imagined that that war between Russia and the USA was possible. Now - it's almost impossible to believe that it's avoidable. And that is why the song is so perfect - the naivety of thinking that we've solved the problem of war.
Russian is here. We are also from our shore, looking with curiosity, on fiction US astronauts - do they represent your nation relationship 😅 Friendly or hostile, equal or arrogant...
I can’t watch more thing where we are trying to kill each other. Aren’t the three wars right now enough. Why would I want to watch even more horrible human behavior story. I can’t believe anyone thought this would ever be a good movie.
Looks like a fascinating movie. The view of Earth from there is breath taking to say the least! Pretty sure if this were to happen for real, Astronauts are way smarter than politicians & would (of course) did-obey orders & become the last strong hold for common sense & human dignity.

Indeed I remember being up when the wall was being hammered on by a single guy. No one from either side stopped him and more joined in until east met west and yes I cried a little.
It’s a trip, but why are so many comments just going in on the fact that, “this would never happen! It’s gonna be a bad movie now.” Wtf. Dude this seems like a good story. And sketchy af. I’m pretty excited for this tbh.
They should have made a movie on how the astronauts work together to survive and get back to earth in this situation. That would have been an interesting movie. Instead they get a bunch of uncreative people to green light trash like this that feeds into the public anxiety. I just saw the Holdovers now that was a good movie.
While a lot could be seen wrong with this (I'm a space fan), the point seems to be missed by many critics. Most people seem to be missing the point: BOTH sides were presumed to be given the same orders. It's basically a Prisoner's Gamble situation. If you are led to believe the OTHER side is actively trying to get you, you will try and get them first in hopes of saving your hide. The shock and awe of a nuclear exchange will break psychology down far
Prisoner's Dilemma, you mean. And the dominant strategy equilibrium is easily overcome in a small group setting where everyone knows that fighting over the ISS is likely to kill everyone on board through malfunction of the station.
You're right. The depiction of nuclear war in the film represents a scenario in game theory where the authorities have limited information or accuracy. It explores how each party strategizes to maximize their own benefit under these constraints. It's a fascinating concept. I'm eager to see if the movie effectively captures this complexity 😂.
@JackieChan-rk7mc I was 16 when the Berlin Wall came down. This song was released over a year later, in 1990. There was no Soviet Union at that time, derp.

So they are gonna do what they can to survive
there is an "evacuation vehicle" that they could use, the soyuz capsule can re-enter and land safely in a lot of places

It's. A. Movie.

What happened to watching movies for entertainment purposes?

Let's try to guess what the movie will be about.
On the ISS, on the one hand, there will be a block of Americans who work from the power of love, and also only if there is a strong, independent woman in the crew (the hatch won’t even open there if there is little diversity in the arriving crew), on the other hand, a block of Russians who are wrapped in tape, runs exclusively on vodka (the hatch won’t even open if the arriving crew includes at least one non-drunk cosmonaut)
Good American astronauts, of course, will try to the last to avoid conflict, because America is the most peace-loving nation.
This movie will go real far in keeping up them American and Soviet relations!! 🤓🤓🤓

Instead they get a bunch of uncreative people to green light trash like this that feeds into the public anxiety. I just saw the Holdovers now that was a good movie.
Well I suggest you watch the movie. Maybe something else happens in the end. i thought it was a great movie.
Now that’s how you make a movie trailer !!!
@@FireMarshallStev This is indeed a good rebuttal. Thanks for the correction. Kept forgetting the name
That whistle in this trailer works so good with this trailer hope this movie doesn’t disappoint
That song was from a time when world peace was within our grasp.
@@Cinemaphile7783no it wasn't. It was during the height of the cold war. Derp
@JackieChan-rk7mc I was 16 when the Berlin Wall came down. This song was released over a year later, in 1990. There was no Soviet Union at that time, derp.
@@Cinemaphile7783January 1991 it was released.
It's great movie 🎥
PHENOMENAL concept, but the idea that the astronauts and cosmonauts would fight as opposed to work together kinda ruins it for me
the comments kinda restore my faith in humanity ngl
I wrote this as a short story a few years ago. Be interesting to see if it ends the same way as in the anthology (I doubt it) Can't wait.
this is how i imagine Big Brother is supposed to be. totally out of touch with the world.
I’m betting money the twist is that it’s aliens turning us against each other.
we don't need aliens for that.
Reptiloids
@@RichNelson-h7m, Yes, no need for aliens. To do this, we have reptiloids from the Bohemian Grove 😂👌
@PuPuCard wow wish I could have gone in surprised.
6 months later, turns out, none of it made any difference whatsoever.
A black lesbian astronaut that’s something
Looks well made.
Looks amazing
Can’t wait for the Pitch Meeting that’ll save me those two hours of having to watch this
“So a nuclear war breaks out on Earth.”
“Oooh scary!”
“Then the Russian & US government tell their astronauts to take the station at any cost.”
“Why would taking control of the space station during a nuclear war help?”
“Because it’s the plot.”
“But why?”
“I don’t know.”
“What…what good is a space station during a war?”
“Maybe it has spying ability or something?”
“It’s a scientific research station, not a spy satellite.”
“Maybe it can be more.”
“But it can’t.”
“But it’s war time.”
“Okay so tell me what happens next…”
In real life it would work like "Guys, let's say "yes" to our governments and work together to get out of here. Otherwise we're all stuck"
Is it only me who doesn't like even the idea of that film? Hi, from Russia.
Wasn’t there an episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone revival series that featured an episode with a very similar plot?
It isn't really a brand new plot at all. Not even being on a space station but it still could be a good movie. Yet, I'm not interested in it. I don't need more movies showing how tenuous peace can be. Movies are for escapism in my life.
I remember that episode. Just as the cree was ready to lift off they were told nuclear war was breaking out and they had to decide whether or not to leave earth. They did take off and eventually one crew member begins to believe the whole thing was a simulation to test them.
