I just discovered Heartless Bastards on a re-aired episode of Austin City Limits on PBS 3 weeks ago. Knew right away I had to hear more. Saw on the web that HB had 5 albums and that Erika Wennerstrom had released her 1st solo album Sweet Unknown earlier this year during a hiatus from HB. Sampled some HB songs and sampled a couple of her new songs and immediately bought Sweet Unknown. As someone who grew up listening to and worshipping Jimi and as someone who is a HUGE fan of Satch, music with vocals rarely holds my attention for long - examples of exceptions would be Jessie J’s freshman effort Who You Are and Crystal Bowersox’s freshman effort Farmer’s Daughter. I'm a bit mesmerized, I cannot stop listening to Sweet Unknown, I cannot stop watching the Good To Be Alone video. This performance, the synergy and musical fusion of this 5-piece, Erika’s phenomenal vocals/lyrics, Lauren Gurgiolo’s mastery of the guitar/effects/feedback/swells/speaking volumes with understatement - the whole experience gives me goosebumps of awe and tears of joy.
Lauren Gurgiolo of Austin, TX. She has also played with Okkervil River. If you can catch a full live show with her, it's even more obvious what a badass she is. She's got more versatility than you can pick up on here.
Crazy high potential realized & then some. One of the true greats.
Thanks for writing this song Erika! It’s good 😊
I just found out this singer and her band, and promptly bought four albums on iTunes. Its been a long long time since I liked a group this much!

Agree! Really impressive!
"Sweet Unkown" has been playing non stop in my car for 2 months 😄
Welcome to the club
A very pretty and talented musician. Smooth, soulful, and sweet vocal aerobics. Lots of love from Perth, Western Australia xx
This is truly amazing. When I hear something that brings a tear to my eye and gives me chills, I know I have found something very special.
1:38 GREAT MOVE AT THE BACK :)
...So, who is the great lead guitar player? Anyone know?

She is pretty badass!!
@@jeanwooddavis3633 I've been to two Erika Wennerstrom concerts and I can't stop watching Gurgiolo the entire time. She almost steals the show!
Didn't know JK Rowling had a band?
😂
