  • 6G - MAX TIG Weld Test 2" XXH | Test Tips for F6/F6 Full Tig Welding Procedure !
    6G welding test with tig root pass on a 2" XXH wall, with a full tig welding procedure.
    6G is where the pipe is fixed at a 45-degree angle and welded in this fixed position.
    So, it basically covers flat, horizontal, and vertical welding, and overhead in a single position.
    In this video, I will break down the steps to pass the 6G position test, starting with the root pass.
    I will show the steps from fill passes to finishing with a multi-pass cap.
    The pipe welding techniques used, and the welding procedure as per ASME Section IX welder performance qualification (WPQ) pipe welding certification.

    None of these videos are recorded in a fancy shop surrounded by sponsorship banners!
    All of my videos are recorded at working sites in various locations and different welding positions.
    90% of my welding projects in videos are x-rayed, and if you like to see hands-on projects, welcome!
    If you liked this video please give it a thumbs up, share it, subscribe, and click the bell.
    It doesn’t cost you anything but massively helps my TH-cam channel. Thank you.

    I'm a Union Boilermaker in the States. This is our standard test for combination certs (tube test is what we call it). We're only allowed a single TIG root pass, no hot pass, and then SMAW the rest of the way out. No grinder allowed. File, chipping hammer, and a wire brush only. Every once in a while, we have to TIG it all the way out. I like the bridge tacks that you are allowed to use. I wish they would let us use bridge tacks and allow a hot pass, but they want four tacks so they can see the tie-ins. Then, no hot pass is allowed, so they can see you are able to weld SMAW over the root without getting suck back. Also, your English is great, and so is your welding!

      @charleswronge4743 I was out of Boilermakers Local 83 Kansas City, MO. But, I transferred my book to Boilermakers Local 456 Rock Hill, SC. I was down here for so long working for CB&I at Vogtle that I ended up relocating to this area. At least for now, anyway. I'll probably eventually end up transferring back into Local 83 eventually.

      200 amps and above, it all depends how much you can handle, but, yeah use 5/32 for filler passes and you’ll finished faster , but it’s not about finishing faster it’s about to learn to weld tig faster.

    When you doing fill pass why u always start at the top side to down side ?

    • @X3MTIG
      @X3MTIG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bud, no specific reason it’s more of a habit, but in some cases like horizontal welding examples I like to do top first, to prevent any slag traps if I’m using stick welding.

  • @nathanielclause2588
    @nathanielclause2588 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you start at the top and work down on your fills?

    • @X3MTIG
      @X3MTIG  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud, I like to put first fill pass at the top, just to prevent creating extra groove, it’s more like a habit, but helps especially when stick welding in horizontal. Sometimes you create groove between weld bead and side wall, which can easily trap any slag or poor fusion. That’s the main reason.

      Man, you didn’t even listen to the video than! 🤯 He did mention it, for the root pass he used 120 amps , cup size 8, tungsten 1/8. This guy always makes detailed videos and explains everything, unlike many other channel creators. It seems like people always want more…like the best would be if he could weld for others! 🙄 Also, amps he uses for root pass don’t guarantee you’ll be able to use the same, depends on experience and how much can you handle!
