I work at the world's largest acid plant. Inconel is an everyday part of life for me. It did not come easily for me either. We do tig but mostly stick weld it on just about everything. I will never forget the sinking feeling of trying to weld vertical with it. I almost cried. I thought I would never get it. I took home a handful every day until I had enough to practice in private. It is extremely expensive. Now at 54 it is no doubt my favorite rod other than a couple other stainless rods. Out here if you can't weld upsidedown through jip and pigeon shit you ain't shit😅. Really though practice makes perfect
@lancelandmark2233 a friend of mine does electrical engineering work and he took me on a tour of a refinery plant in a shutdown maintenance phase. One cool thing I got to see was this rule of catalyst wire mesh made of platinum that cost somewhere around 10,000 a square meter, and it was so fine it actually appeared to be some kind of a finely woven silk cloth. He said that if you lack access to Exotic Alloys like in Canal Etc these plants quickly don't perform very well because certain steps need those materials otherwise forever replacing parts
Quick Pro tip you can use a sintered bronze muffler on the end of your argon Purge line. This helps with uniform Gas Distribution without creating excess turbulence especially when you're welding pretty close to the entry point for the Argon gas.
Inconel used in high performance parts in the space industry. Like the internals on fuel and oxidizer pumps the pre burner supplies heated gas to these in highly oxidizing and high temperature realm so the material has to be able to resist this while also mixing with cryogenic liquids
In Canadian welding college(specifically British Columbia) we have to pay extra to take a course to learn how to weld dissimilar metals. And the course is only 4-6 weeks. We got a day to try and weld inconel and its mostly stick. The school considered it too expensive to actually provide inconel material and filler metal.. The rest of the time is dedicated to teaching us how to TIG weld pipe.(Which was supposed to be done in the previous level/class) They give us so little time to train that most welders in B.C cant tig weld at all.
BCIT? I'm out here in Squamish and my third project that requires a welder at 150 bucks an hour, 2 hour minimum has made me want to take up at least stick welding. Mike Truelove did a few welds for me and I'm just amazed by how good he is at it without much work up to a project
@Welddotcom look up a series of videos on TH-cam called Project Pluto. There is a reason they named it after what was the final planet in the solar system This was meant to be a weapon so dangerous and final that the Americans built it as a final ways to destroy the Soviet Union if they had nothing else left. They built two nuclear reactors, air-cooled by a flow of air coming in through the front and exiting out the back. All of these structure holding the fuel rods and moderators were held in place with one of these Hastalloy structure It would generate up to 400 megawatts of thermal power used to drive a supersonic Ramjet over the Soviet Union, spraying a supersonic Shockwave and a toxic exhaust plume from a low level completely impervious from ground missiles and aircraft. As a final retribution at the end when it's fuel was nearly exhausted, and all its bombs were dropped, they could Ram it into a Target and spread hard radiation from the nuclear core over it.
love those inconel arc shots tho - i could watch an hour straight of just puddle shots and be a happy camper - these videos are getting to expert level - i don't ever remember Bob covering inconel
Tip: inconel dont needs to shine with a cutting disk you just need to pass a stainless steel btush and continue once your root pass has smooth bead on the outside but everyone has their way of welding, good job buddy, ne t thing is inconle cracks even when youre rooting it pretty fast tge faster it cools it cracks
Do you always only weld with your dominate hand or can you run it with both hands but just stick with dominant hand on harder stuff? I’ve never welded inconel but my instructor from back in the day was welding inconel in a clean room last I heard. Seems like a pain to weld that shit everyday🤣😅. Nice work 💥🤘🏼🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@swift__ I can use both, it’s not my favorite haha, and I don’t use it much.. that’s the trick, use it often and it won’t feel weird. If nothing’s forcing me, I’ll use my right
It's amazing you're not deaf after listening to that Sprinter all day! You'd think Lincoln could put fan-on-demand into it; but I guess that would push the price too high for everyone looking for a $300 welder lol (get what you pay for!)
If you can’t tail out back over your weld, how do you tail out? You said it will crack if you tail out without filler, but then didn’t explain how to terminate your weld.
I always free-hand the cap a 6G test with inconel filler. It just doesn't flow well enough for me to want to like the way it looks from walking the cup
@@Welddotcom Absolutely. And there's really no consistency in the ripple pattern when I walk the cup with high nickel fillers. Just bothers the heck out of my OCD Anyway, sweet video! I just wanted to mention to people that there are multiple ways to end up with the same result, if they are struggling with your technique!
This real worked. Had a weld test yesterday took 3 hours a lot of tape i 100 percent passed the test.
glad to hear it!

Turbine blades in jet engines are made from Inconel, it's one of the toughest alloys on the planet
