Actually had some really useful information for newbies. I can't even tell you how many youtube channels there are out there for RPG maker guides in which the video creator has no idea what they're doing and just guiding people to ruin.
I just bought RPG Maker and I'm still new but one thing I can't figure out for the life of me is how to create a window or tabs. Such as a character tab, skills tab, items tab, stats and attributes, etc. There must be a way to do it.
Yay someone who at least went to Devry for Game and Simulation development. You get a sub for me just for mentioning and showing the Game Design Document.
I am a music composer looking to get into making simple games. Toby fox did the same thing, he used RPG maker. I want to learn this so I will sub to your page. Thanks for the help!
Great video! You made a good list of necesary things. One thing a lot of new devs do is getting stuck in one type of resource, sp plugins or art, and neglect everything else. I do have to wonder if you talk this fast irl, haha.
It's also worth taking a bit of time to give a cursory glance over Copyright law in your country, and in Japan as that's where RPGM's license bases it's terms. In the US, for instance, if you want trademark and copyright protections, you have to submit your game and any unique assets to a scepific office to get those registrations and have the ability to use (R) (C) and (TM) in a lot of cases. Though Steam might do this for you, I'm not sure. A Publisher certainly will, though they'll often get most of the rights in the end. Publishers ***May*** be willing to hire a team for you if they like the demo you've given them, but that usually comes with additional strings and expectations, too. You can basically write off any chance of getting a Publisher if you're using the RTP unless you already know someone pretty high up at said publisher. You can also use RPGM purely as a pitch maker-That is, showing a publisher, dev team, or just potential fans what you're looking at making before using a more powerful (but more difficult to use) engine such as Game Maker, Godot, Unity or even Unreal 4/5 and spending hundreds or more likely thousands on custom assets (yes, bespoke assets cost that much). The suggestion of writing background information about the world and it's inhabitants is fantastic advice. ToastyTime said it best "If you can't think of what a character would have in their room, throw your game out and start over" Brutal, perhaps, but it sums it up well. The mention of birthdays makes me realize I've never seen a 'date' plugin for RPGM that I can recall. time-of-day, but not a calander. There are *mechanics* to be had in that. Also, do not ignore sound design-not just music but everything. walking on surfaces should make sounds. things that would make sound IRL should make sound, ect. Music is great when you need emotion, but you loop that enough and it's going to get dull.
This is a great comment, thank you! I may do a video about publishing at some point, where I'd definitely have to touch on copyright law and the other things you mentioned. :D Same with sound design, that stuff's really important and deserves its own video.

do you have a google doc of some sort that you tend to use as a base for your character profiles and story plans? i think it would be really helpful to have such a thing on hand and to write story details on it, but i can't imagine getting started.
I don't personally use one at the moment, but I'd actually recommend taking a look at D&D character sheets as a good place to start. There are some really awesome and in-depth templates out there that can help you to map out character profiles, worlds, stories, etc. :D
I made a online room multiplayer game, while buggy still I am working on all issues. There is a slight hard mode when you start, but you will level faster and you can choose jobs that suit your play style!
Any advice on how to write branching dialogue/quest lines? I've always been a fan of make your own adventure sort of games, but the script is rapidly becoming a nightmare to deal with. -.-
Yeah those can get pretty tricky to keep a track of! Depends entirely on how your specific game is set up, but it's always a good shout to make good use of things like labels. Also Common Events are great if you have certain events that repeat in some circumstances, and saves having to copy/paste them more than once. :D

Hello, i joined the forum and then it says "Your account is currently awaiting approval by an Administrator. You will receive an email when a decision has been taken." until now there has no decision has been taken, what shall i do?
Question. If I want to make a commercial game using RPG Maker, is it bad / not recommended / frowned upon to use assets taken from the internet / marketplace? Do I HAVE to make original assets to be sellable? Or if I used assets, do I have to pay royalty of sorts? I also have a bunch of questions on publishing, but that may be off topic so I'm not sure if you can answer.
As long as you're using assets that you have permission to use and are following their terms of use, it's totally acceptable! Just make sure you've read their terms first. :D
@@Cazwolf I see. So it's okay if it's according to their terms. How about social impacts? Do potential consumers usually frown upon games that don't have their own assets?
is the RPG Maker MV engine able to make a game in the line of something like Blasphemous, or some simple side scrolling or top down game that isn't using the JRPG battle systems?
It's possible for sure, but it's not a feature built into the engine by default. You'll either need to event something or use plugins to make that work. :D
Hi Cazwolf! Just discovered your wonderful channel. :) Would like to ask, is it possible to create a dating sim in RPG Maker? Or at the least, a system where the characters' relationship bar increases the more time they fight together in battles, etc.? This feature would be essential to the game idea that I have, but I'm not sure whether it's doable in this engine. Thank you for your helpful videos!
Hey there! Yep, you can definitely add dating elements. :D You'll just need to use a variable for each character for their "love" progress, which can go up or down based on whatever actions you want.
Hey thanks for the question! Unfortunately I think I'll be sticking with MZ tutorials when Unite comes out. What I've seen of the engine so far doesn't look as friendly for beginner gamedevs, and I'd like to keep it as simple and accessible as possible. :D I may do some kind of video on Unite eventually, but it's unlikely I'll be making tutorials for it sadly.
Thanks, helpful info... But Wow that avatar is distracting jerking about randomly without lip sync, takes up too much of your screen and it doesn't serve a purpose :/
