    It's surprising seeing a list of top RPG-Maker games without even one of the classic Horror games. I guess it's kinda refreshing to see a list without them, but it's still weird. Normally Yume Nikki, Ib, Witch's House (which got a remake on Steam!), The Crooked Man, Mad Father, Misao... one of them would be in a list like that.
    While I love these classics new wonderful RPG-Maker Horror games are being made today as well! I will always recommend End Roll and Witch's Heart!

    • @AskGamedev
      @AskGamedev  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thanks for the recommendations Rina! There were too many to name! There are so many great RPG Maker games that we could probably even make a list dedicated to horror RPG Maker titles.

    • @mavera-5777
      @mavera-5777 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Couldn't agree more, I personally don't like Mad Father, The Witch's House and Misao that much, but Ib and Yume Nikki and the whole Strange Men series should've definitely been on the list. I would also add Ao Oni, although I hate it lol 😅 I loved all games made by Uri, yet my favourite is Mermaid Swamp since I kind of developed a personal bond to it (?), so out of personal preference I'd pick it over The Crooked Man, but I agree that the latter is the most important game made by Uri... I swear all games made by Segawa are so good, can't wait until we get some new ones 😫 I never get tired of playing End Roll, but Farethere City is the best. In my humble opinion, it's a masterpiece. There really isn't enough material about it as it's not as known as End Roll and unfortunately End Roll isn't that popular either.... Walking On A Star Unknown is also amazing and has a lot of new, unexpected elements, yet Farethere City stays in my heart 😖 Witch's Heart was sooo well-made, it had a very different and refreshing structure and in spite of everything I like all of the characters, even those who kill me lol 😅😭 Oh and btw Your Turn To Die is so good, I see you 😝😉😉 The feels that game awakened in me 😭😭 Can't wait for the next chapter(s) 😍😺 Let's not forget about Pocket Mirror, Blank Dream, Stray Cat Crossing, Mogeko Castle, Forest of Drizzling Rain, Bevel's Painting and Angels of Death 😍

      Its Locations, followed closely (almost a tie!) by Story and Characters. (And yes, Gameplay isn't that amazing.) Each areas have some sort of theme, each made to its greatest potentials.
      *Spoilers down here to locations*
      Zone 1 is an amazing introducion to the universe. Zone 2 is a tragic, yet amazing, romp into exploring and fleshing out the world. Zone 3 is a dark, twisting labarinth of mixed emotions and truly questioning one major aspect about the world, which are apparent when you revisit lands you already beat. The last area is an amazing, yet mysterious, closure to the world.

    Seeing not only combat, but combat that differs game to game on this list, implying I can actually make interesting combat based on my own ideas, is giving me hope that game design won't just be some pipe dream that gets me through the day.

    I've have been hanging around the RPG maker scene since it was just a translated hack for RM2k. There were some great games made back then . A Blurred Line. There was a good FF or 2. There was another game that was set to look amazing. All custom tile sets. A Zelda type battle system. Real japan samurai type feel. Great visuals, rain effects. I only ever saw a demo though before I drifted away from the scene back then.
    Can't forget those Legion Saga based off the Suikoden games.

    With that said, I am working hard to prepare my first game, Killer Gin, for STEAM. I hope to make a similar future list, like this, VERY soon!
    A couple unique aspects of KG.
    1) There will be voice actors, I already have 38+ voice actors, most of whom are professionals.
    2) The game is a sprawling Fantasy Epic with over 30+ hrs of gameplay, ton of easter eggs, secrets, and game altering decisions to make.
    3) There will be a HUGE cross over with a sci-fi game, Star Shift, that is also set for release on STEAM very soon. Star Shift, when completed, should also make it on this list due to its awesomeness! lol.
    See ya in the future!

    I love RPG maker and there is where I started . It is true that in a 2D universe your only real limitations is actually the 2D. However as further as you push customization and unique functionalities it gets worse and worse and bad peformant. I highly recommend anyone that is not planning to use most of premade systems in the engine fairly the way they were made( battle system, navigation, item, character Data, etc) would be better start coding things in other engines while it can look like hard in the beginning that will end up beign easier and better peformant.

    played all the games but for me the best ones are Doom And Destiny 1&2 . Played them both of them on PC as well as on Ipad and each time had great fun. Good story line gameplay is just as it should be and best of all - awesome humor. If you haven`t played them now is your time! Come to think of it I`m going to download them again as well and I rarely replay games I have already beaten.

      I liked almost everything in this game, from the story (which is really an interesting one), to the characters design, and music.
      I played this game always thinking that it was made in GameMaker, but I got surprised when I found it was made in none other than RPGMaker, it seems that I underestimated that game engine quite a lot.

    I love RPG Maker. It's a lot of fun to make RPGs. I think it's incredible people can make other genres in the program too. :)
    I haven't messed with RPG Maker VX Ace in a while, and I forgot how to load scripts into it. How do I do it again?
    Also, what's better for a first RPG in the program? A linear game, rogue like, or plan open explorative game?

    • @sonicthefox2478
      @sonicthefox2478 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, thanks a lot.
      Yeah a linear game is what I was leaning more towards anyway, so thanks for the advice. Linear game it is. (Something like Final Fantasy 10 is what I have in mind.)

    That wasn't what I was thinking. I was thinking about the games like The witch's house, Ib, Yume nikki, Mad father, Stray cat crossing, Mogeko castle, Mermaid swamp, Misao, Corpse party, Ao oni, Hello hell... o, Off, the mirror lied, The crooked man, paranoaic, games like those. Wait, those are horror games, no wonder! Hah! I'm stupid.
