In the world there are only a few guys with that masterclass knowledge about drums. Dom might be number one. Thank you for sharing.

My 1951 Gretsch floor tom has straight legs and hardly any sustain and I switched to reg legs and it opened it up. . That is amazing. Tha ks Don! I have to get one of your floor tom legs.

That's great Don! I did several tests on legs and I've shot a video about this topic awhile ago. The DW legs along with the Gibraltar SC-TL3A (with the SC-RTL rubber feet) are the only ones that don't influence the sound.
BUT if you remove one rubber feet on the Gibraltar this will shorten the sustain a bit. If you remove 2 of them it will do even more.
The "rubber feet trick" on DW legs doesn't work because of their long angle, this makes the drum kind of floating so they doesn't affect the sound.
But I think you already know all of this :)
    Love your channel!

Perhaps this tricks only works when you are wearing this shirt. Did you try it with another one?

You gave me an idea. I’m going to put rubber sleeves on my legs

OK, so how about putting a very large hose clamp around the legs just above the mount. This would put tension on the shell and take out the resonance as well. This would likely be more tunable than just flipping the leg.

Sustain sounds best with a band I feel

Why not have a variable angled locking leg/foot?

Mapex has that on their mapexdesignlab.com/ kits

Mapex do that now in their Black Panther Sound Lab kits They include one of those variable angled legs with each floor tom, and two regular ones. I guess you can purchase them separately if you're interested in.
