After my braces came off, I thought my lips would finally be able to close. Then I figured out that, while my overbite did make it impossible to fully close my mouth, I also have a short upperlip that gives me the appearance of an overbite anyway. I am glad that there is a way to fix this without surgery, even if it doesn't totally fix it, it will make me feel better knowing I tried.
@@warmlyhridita It works! I’ve been doing these exercises and some others since January of this year (albeit inconsistently) after my braces came off and thus far I have made a ton of progress. Before I could not properly close my mouth without straining my chin muscles and lower lip which would make my chin look dimpled and wrinkly not to mention my lower lip would protrude further forward than the top, not cute lol. Also I could not smile with my mouth closed because all the work went into keeping my lips together. Although the problem is not yet 100% resolved and I don’t know it will ever be, I’ve gotten to the point where I can achieve lip seal and maintain it without showing any strain in my chin or having my lower lip protrude excessively. Basically now my resting face looks like a normal poker face whereas before it would look like I was holding in a cough due to all the tension I had to put on the muscles in my lower face to force my mouth shut. For reference I am 28 years old, if you are younger than that chances are you will get faster and better results if you put in the work consistently!!!
Hi! I'm 16 years old and, through the help of google, I just realized I have lip incompetence. I always noticed that my mouth looked strained/tense whenever I had a neutral expression on my face. When I tried relaxing my face muscles, I would notice that most of my top front teeth would be visible. I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video! I just did my first set of exercises right now. Will the exercises help to make the area around my mouth (specifically the chin) look less strained/tense?
Is your chin dimpled when you close your mouth? Cus my is and it strains my chin and makes it stick out and be dimpled. Did any of the excercises help?
For anyone still wondering. As far as i can tell mentalis strain is caused by lip incompetence so yes these should work for a dimpled chin and restore some chin point
Hi, I'm 18 years old and I have lip incompetence. I always knew something did not look right about my lips, and I thought it was due to my overbite. I had my braces for around 2 years and got them off 3 months ago, and my lips did not change. I then realized that I have lip incompetence. Do these exercises work for me, or are they only intended for kids? Is it too late to fix it now?
I think it never too late to improve on you myofunctions. The results might not be as drastic or easy to achieve when you are older, but it will definitely help with these exercises. Since you have an overjet..check out our reverse swallow videos! I found a lot of my patients who has overjet, tend to have an incorrect swallow patttern!
I feel bad having this, I don't feel very attractive at all right now. My orthodontist was supposed to fix it but it did nothing for me and it was a waste of money I'm afraid.
Hello! My front teeth is big and not in place, so I decided to had extraction then have dentures but sad to say, it's the same, I cannot close my mouth. It's really hard to get picture like for passport that don't need to show my teeth. Can this exercise helps?
I just found these to do after jaw surgery as I have lip incompetence. However I can’t put my tongue under my top lip without my tongue showing. Is this normal ? It feels like my tongue does not reach.
Please very important ! You said this will strengthen the upper lip muscle , does that also mean that when you smile the upper lip will go up higher or it will not affect that , because i have a gummy smile and my upper lip is hyperactive and goes up high so i am scared that this will worsen it?
Hi. When I close my mouth shut, my lower lip pulls to one side (left). When it's relaxed and slightly opened, it's normal. What does it mean? Please help
@kidfocusdentist me too, my upper lip is quite big, I just want to improve my lip incompetence, but I dont want it becomes bigger. This exercise is fit to me, isnt it ?
I’m 13 and I think I have lip incompetence I thought it was because of my overbite but after I had my twin block braces to fix my overbite I realised my lips were still the same any help?
Jeez my mouth is paining already doing this,I think have zero strength in my lips and chin. I cant naturally close my lips and it looks so weird forced.
Lips muscles are like any muscles. You can improved on their strength and size with exercises!!! Keep at it and hopefully you can see great results overtime!
My top lip doesn’t cover my top teeth, I just shut my mouth properly but when my mouth is open my top lip doesn’t over my teeth, if that makes any sense? Will this help?
Kid Focus Dentistry another question I have if you don’t mind, I want to try mewing but I saw someone say that it will make your chin longer. Is this true?
Mewing is really to help the weak chin situation from incorrect swallowing. Yes, it could make your jaw longer but that required a lot of exercises for an adult to get there! Bone growth on adult will be very minor with myofunctional exercises. They are better for improving muscles
@@dododa6087 Omg hi aha I rarely see someone with the problem. But tbh I haven’t really tried it but I’m gonna soon, I’ll let you know if I see any improvement!
can i still do these exercises as an adult? my double jaw surgery at 15 did not fix my lip incompetence as was promised and i wasn't referred to ANY OMT resources at the time. i'm only just now discovering a name for my condition. if i do these exercises 3 reps per day 5 times each (along with the button pull exercise) is it realistic to expect noticeable results in a few months? also, since i'm older (18) and the muscles are more set in their ways, should i use a weighted or unweighted metal spoon for the spoon hold? thanks :)
Unfortunately it is hard to say how long you will see significant result because we didn't diagnose your problems! Weighted spoon will increase the challenge to your lip muscles
Does this work for adults too? Could this help with an overactive mentalis? If not, could you do recommend exercises to form a proper lip seal without overusing the mentalis muscle?
Hi, when you do lips seal exercises...focus on your lips muscles vs. your mentalis. Your lips muscles should do most of the work during these exercises. If you have very weak lips muscles, in the beginning you might feel more mentalis but as you progress...you should feel the mentalis do most of the work. I don't think that it is possible to do lips exercises without some mentalis movements. It might help if you close your eyes while doing the exercises to feel which muscle you are using. Adults will not get as good of a result as children, but there will be improvement!
@@kidfocusdentist Awesome. Thank you so much for replying. Can I just do the exercises your channel recommends? Or is there a place I can find more lip seal exercises?

Same problem here... Any results you got?
@Gloria 🥺same! I really thought I'll be able to close my mouth when it's relaxed but no! Fml you got any improvement?!
Totally feeling you, My braces will be come off in few days, but due to short upper lip, lip seal isn’t gained.Did you find any result doing this?

since this works the muscles and not trying to change bone shape (which has already fused in your case) yes.

Unfortunately no! But it will strengthen the upper lips muscle thus make the upper lip bigger!
