when i saw that ben was being replaced i thought, "how wonderful, they're letting inspector poole go back to london!" then i watched the episode and was heart-broken. sob.
Broke my heart. I just don't see why he couldn't be allowed to go back to London. Or go to Paris with Camille. Or anywhere with Camille. To what could have been.
Ben Miller's portrayal got me glued to Death in Paradise from the start and I've been a big fan ever since. I do miss him (and not very happy that his character was killed off) but I still love the show. In fact, one day I hope to visit Guadeloupe and experience everything about it!
He's amazing! I keep hoping that Richard and Camille will one day have their own spin-off series, or return for a few more episodes in DIP. Richard's brief return in Series 10 wasn't long enough and besides, at this point, if he returns as if he never died, I don't think his fans would care at all about continuity if he just rocked up in Saint Marie - ALIVE AND WELL having been 'undercover.' We just want him back!!
@@kelsiaramaple It could work, you know. The show has already shown us corpses mistaken for someone else. Say his murder was a ruse, that the body was a fake, made to look like Richard by that dodgy plastic surgeon from Series 2, all done so he could go undercover. It's not super convincing, but - to get the return of a fan favourite - I'm sure people would buy it. Else they could do another series with the old cast, set before Richard died
There is another method of getting him back. He has a twin brother who is just like him. This was the method used in a Tony Hancock episode called "The Bowmans". A much loved character in a radio series was killed off. The listeners protested, and the BBC introduced the twin brother. It was a comedy parody of the Archers radio series. It is on TH-cam. It is very funny. @@kelsiaramaple
It would be interesting to see the original caste return for one last special special. Not like in the 10th anniversary, where we got Camille, and - briefly - a hallucination of Richard, alongside the modern cast, but something the vein of a missing episode from the first two seasons. Heck, if they wanted to, they could get a whole serial out the plots of one of Thorogood's spin-off books.
I'd like to see a series about Poole's life *before* he comes to the islands. Recapping all the cases he solved cus he really was that smart...even tho it rubbed his co-workers all wrong.
@@suburbohemian As I recall, it was stated in his earlier episodes that he didn't have much success in the UK, largely because he lacked a supportive team
For me they were the best, they had the most chemistry and attraction which often resulted in conflicts and banter, yet they also trusted each other and Camille came to understand Richard's vulnerability and insecurities. I keep wondering about what a 3rd series would have done for their growing affection and I like that they spoke of this in the video - Ben said he was sad that Richard and Camille didn't get together.
Then you should be glad that Danny John-Jules has returned. I’m glad that Neville and Florence got together in the end. It was truly a happy ending. As for Ben, he’s great as “Professor T.” He seems to specialize in playing eccentric loners, an icon of British mysteries.
I'm not an avid fan but rather a regular watcher. I can understand Ben's need to move on, I just wish they could have done it without the need to have killed him off. Thank you for the memories.
Ben and Sara are my FAV WITH THEIR CAST--CRIED WHEN THE CAST CHANGED! 😪 Thanks to All who worked through the HEAT to make DIP (which is what you need to Cool Off😉)! deb in Sunny South Carolina USA 😎

I know, it's a tragedy and travesty that Richard Poole was killed off. So much potential unfulfilled for that character and possible romance with Camille. The fanfiction community is amazing, keeping him alive and well with Camille.
@@-________-9267 is England in Europe? I don’t know anymore. I suppose if you have a stroll round most of London you wouldn’t know what continent you’re in!
A very enjoyable cast indeed. Not one individual over another, but a complete cast. Though each are unique. Yes, it`s not "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" or "Macbeth" but neither does it claim to be. Well i liked it anyway. Thank you one, thank you all. Pete.
HeartBroken He left!!! Heartbroken He and Camille could not break through but I can see why not; He was her superior officer! The heart wants what it wants though...They should of had Ben Retire and started the relationship from there...Does anyone else agree?
Pienso q mataron muy pronto al personaje q daba mucho más de si,q lo podrían traer de nuevo ,alegando q el q murió era un gemelo y q el volvió a Londres, luego q se case con camile
1.46 see...its all a ruse, a pretend ice pick and tomsto sauce... ...perhaps he would come back and that scene is a ruse... On a different note, Humphrey in S3E2, when he speaks to Camille, instead of being her new boss, switches to being the investigating officer and says something like, "We want the same thing, and I want to catch the killer of your friend". And later with Humphrey, how Camille organises him
I very much wished Poole hadn't been killed off, not just because it seemed a shame (tho I can imagine the writer thought it would be fun to shock viewers). And once Poole was out of the show I wanted Camille out as well. I didn't like the theme of Humphrey mooning over her - she had had her "time" on the shown and it was time for someone else to be opposite Humphrey so it was good when Camille went off to Paris and we had Florence. Nothing at all against Camille or the actress, just I felt she didn't fit with Humphrey whilst she had fitted so well with Poole. Thank goodness Humphrey eventually met Marthe again and we now have Beyond Paradise as well - it is my favourite series now on TV.
A parting comment about alcohol as the thing to do. How old school can you get. They resort to drinking a bit much on the show as well. Maybe for the 1940's, or maybe even as recent as the 1980's on a light exposure to it, that fits, but for a modern audience??? We are done fighting crime for the day, let's all get to the bar for alcohol. Just always seems off to me. Love the show though, if only for the "paradise" part.
I like the concept of the show very much but the constant change of actors and then the more less overall theme of the program is not appealing to me at all.

Same. I was totally shocked when they killed him off. I screamed at the TV and cried. He was the best one I'm my eyes xx
Broke my heart. I just don't see why he couldn't be allowed to go back to London. Or go to Paris with Camille. Or anywhere with Camille. To what could have been.
The whole chemistry worked deeply.
He appears as a ghost in a way 😮

Devastating.
Richard & Camille have transended to 'real' love story. ❤️
Ben Miller was sooo good in this, that i just couldn't watch it any more, after he'd been killed off. I DID try, but it just wasn't the same.
Please please please bring Ben back , or his “twin, cousin” …. some ruse could make it happen .
I loved Ben. A wonderfull actor.
He was the best one him and Chris Marshall the rest have not been as good.
I was so mad when he was murdered that I immediately turned off the show & did not watch again for a year & a half
Maybe wrong to compare the lead actors, but he was the best. Very natural, unlike the latest one who is a poor fit.
