Absolutely loved Death in Paradise. I was appalled when Ben was murdered. I don’t know what that says about me and all the other fans. Death in Paradise was not the same without him.
@Stella Marie Poetry and Green Arts the immediate replacement (character of Humphrey) was good because he brought in a different blend: instead of Richard Poole’s social awkwardness + scientific intelligence + creature of habit, Humphrey had physical awkwardness + emotional intelligence + try new things. After that, it just got ‘formulaic’ with the character of the lead detective … that’s the best way I can describe it because I didn’t really connect with them anymore.
I found it a distasteful and shocking way to get rid of him, but he was the detective I most disliked, so I started watching again once the new guys showed up. Lol
I think all the actors that have played the lead role in Death in Paradise have been excellent choices. But in my opinion, I have to say Ben Miller is still the best one. Love the way he portrayed that character.
I can't get on with O'Hanlon's character. Not sure why, but I think it's a combination of him ever-so-slightly over-acting, maybe the writing not being as good, and my own preconceptions preventing me from taking him seriously. It's a shame, and something I try to overcome, but so far, to no avail.
“Oh there’s a lovely bluebell” fantastic. Death in paradise is the best show ever created and Ben Miller was the best lead. I cried when his character died. Great job again Rob, these are great interviews.

Death In Paradise has some of the most ingenious, devilishly clever plots and plot twists of any mystery series I've ever seen. Plus just love the setting and all the characters. Great show.
Cheers rob Ben miller as Richard Poole in death in paradise always lifted my spirits in the horrible month of January when death in paradise was aired.both of you are great comedians and actors great interview.
That show is absolutely hilarious, really entertaining and I couldn't breathe from crying laughing at certain scenes (no spoilers), but Ben plays the role perfectly. All the main characters are brilliant actually. Highly recommended, a must-watch if you like Ben Miller.
I notice Ben made a return as a ghost in Paradise which I found excellent. Do you think the writers could write a script saying it was just a DREAM like Dallas and bring him back?
Loved this podcast today, but good to see you both on camera too. Ben's laugh is so infectious, love it! Still hoping that Ben will just rock up in Saint Marie (Death in Paradise) with Camille - alive and well - having faked his own death. The unspoken romance between Richard and Camille has massive potential and is begging for a spin off series.
@@knowjusticeknowpeace15 Friendly banter is fine, it's ok to disagree! We all see the characters differently. With Humphrey and Camille, to me it all seemed one sided from Humphrey and he only realised he 'loved' Camille in the final episode of S3 (I recall saying wtf, where did that come from), but I didn't see any hint of romantic feelings or love connection from Camille at all. Whereas with Richard and Camille, to me the chemistry was more obvious - Camille flirting with him, her expressions and desire written across her face so many times, but it went deeper than that. Richard's character was to be awkward when it comes to romance, but Camille knew this and understood him on a deeper level. The way she looked at him when she thought he was her blind date and then realised he wasn't, it spoke volumes. The scene during the storm where they sat together in candlelight, talking about personal experiences and feelings was beautiful. The way she looked crushed as he packed to return to London for a few days, thinking he wouldn't return, the hug she gave him before leaving in the taxi and then the relief as he arrived back - it set up series 3 to build on the romance and then the abomination of S3E1 happened. Thank goodness for fanfiction where Richard's very much alive and well. Anyway, just explaining my thoughts on it all, but genuinely interested to know your thoughts on Humphrey and Camille. :)
I thought Camille spent most of her time being pointlessly bitchy to Richard, and I didn't see any convincing romance there. It was just a bad writing choice, which thankfully evened out once the next detective turned up.
Big fan of Ben in Death in Paradise. Ben and Sara were absolutely right on. Their chemistry just keeps you glued and Danny and Gary. I've watched the 2 seasons he made over and over. Was horrified that he got killed off. Favourite episode when DI Poole got the tropical fever.
Loved him on Death in Paradise!!!! Richard Poole's death in the 1st episode of series 3 was quite shocking and well done! I also enjoy him on Professor T too! His all too brief cameo on season 10 episode 6 as a figment of imagination was fun - I would love for them to do a flashback episode featuring Richard Poole before his death.
You should if you can check out the original Professor T (Belgian, I think?) somewhat more eccentric, and 3 seasons worth. Was available on More 4 but no idea if it's still there.

They still arent in the same room at the same time so Im still not buying they are different people. Side note: I loved the first series of Lost in Paradise but could not generate the interest after Ben left. Ben was great in the Doc Martin series

I heard the great Al Pacino really thought he was in a romantic comedy on his first day filming the Godfather 🤭
Love Ben hes amazing and I'm obsessed with his mouth. Weird but true. Lol and Rob you are a legend.
His wife is right it does work I have had it to and it worked for me when doctors hadn’t got a clue don’t knock it till you have tried it love you show by the way 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Introspectivity is maturity.
Rob have you changed your mic? Your lower register tones seem particularly prominent in this recording 👍
A TV series with this pair as the leads in a humorous murder mystery would be epic.
Very cool that vidéo !
Yes, I thought it was you (Rob) I saw starring in DIP judging by the movie cover in Amazon, that's why I clicked on it. 😃
Goodness! He looks like Ralph Fiennes! ❤️❤️❤️
That may have been the first episode filmed but it wasn't the first episode shown of Death in Paradise - the first one was the one with the man locked in the room...
I've always thought Ben looks very similar to Daniel Craig
I love Death in Paradise. I cried when Ben was killed off.
anyone know how I can travel to an alternate dimension where Ben Miller stayed on Death in Paradise?
Loved when you two were twins on QI - one of the funniest bits ever! P.S. There is some good scientific data on acupuncture - I'm a scientist as well and I resisted it at first, but it's there, nonetheless.
Ben was great on Doc Martin also!
They still arent in the same room at the same time so Im still not buying they are different people. Side note: I loved the first series of Lost in Paradise but could not generate the interest after Ben left. Ben was great in the Doc Martin series
Golly, I never realised D in P was a comedy. 🤣
I love both of you.
Ben,
Acupuncture is fantastic. You really should try it.
I know about shaving your head and having weird bumps on your head. I have shaved my head twice and I have the oddest shaped scalp ever. My bald head looks like a brain on the outside. But I loved having no hair.
I wonder if the branches of your family trees would cross if either of you appeared on Who Do You Think You Are...
Also, Rob, I'm loving the slippers
Rob: "My god Ben, we're BOTH descended from Henry VIII!"
Love love love him in Professor T.
Benny, call up Armstrong and say you want to do another season - and get Richard Osmond to join in.
Love Bob! I'm absolutely sure, that he's the kind of "star" who is exactly the same in real life as what you see here. He's bloody funny too 😁❤
The resemblance is amazing. They could be brothers. Death in Paradise will soon have its first black lead, Don Gilet. I wish him luck.
Oh my god you two you two missed your calling ,doing voices (HILARIOUS )
I love DiP, have to confess Josephine Jobert might have something to do with that
Rob Brydon talks to himself for 15 and a half minutes. 😎
