- Dropsy is not a disease but a consequence cased by liver failure that leads to accumulation of fluid in it's body. There are a few common causes of Dropsy namely 1) Sudden change of water temperature, 2) Bacterial infection, 3) Injuries or wound on the fish body.

Is the medicine added everyday or just once?
Change 20% water every day and apply same amount of medicine everyday too. Important tips : 1) Maintain clean and stable water parameter, 2) For epsom salt of 0.3% (3gram to 1 liter of water), you can bath it for 2-3 hours everyday provided air stone is equipped. 3) You may help the fish to release part of the fluids under their scales by squeezing the scales carefully and this will help the fish releasing the extra fluid accumulated in its body and also help the medicine being able to enter its body more easily. For beginning stage of dropsy the recovery rate in my hands is as high as 80%. For latter stage after the dropsy has developed more than a week, the chances is quite slim as their internal organs may have been damaged dramatically and cant be recovered thru treatment unless miraculously by their own.

Can I use table salt
its totally a different thing. Table salt, also known as sodium chloride, is made up of the elements sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Epsom salt, on the other hand, is derived from a naturally occurring magnesium sulfate mineral called epsomite, which contains the chemical components magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S) and oxygen (O). Salt (including table salt) will retain fluid in goldfish body while epsom salt contradictory help releasing fluids.

I heard dropsy is very contagious I fish was showing very early signs yesterday and was already put in hospital tank with medication but I’m concerned for my other goldfish I have a lot of very expensive ones. What do you suggest
Dropsy doesn't spread but i still suggest you quarantine your goldfish. You can cure them in the same tank but it's best to quarantine them so the goldfish don't get stressed
Why you cant feed them while doing this treatment? Arent they hungry? Please help, my goldfish is in a danger 😢
Hope this isn’t too late to reply. Goldfish can survive for a while without food. It will help clear their digestion

It depends on the condition of the fish. If the fish can take it (check the gill if turn pale after bath) and observe if the fish still active. If so, 0.5% bath for 5 mins is safe. But for fish to recover, the quality of your hospital tank water is crucial and do not use medicine to quarantine the fish for continuously more than 24 hours.
