I absolutely love the Soviet boxers. GGG, Bivol, Beterbiev, Lomachenko, Usyk, Janibek. They are so skilled
Loma and usyk fight nothing like the others. Probably because they are Ukrainian and not Russian huh ?
Me too
@@matthew-jy5jp Loma and Usyk, like soviet boxers, also utilise the in-and-out style through pendulum stepping footwork. The main difference is that Loma and Usyk fight out of the southpaw stance and have adjusted their style to make the most of this - while also using more level changes. At their core, they are the same base style.

You never heard of James toney
The biggest difference with bivol compared to any other boxer I have ever witnessed is his ego, it does not exist, he knows precisely when to step it up and slow it down, he doesn't listen to noise from his opponent nor from boxing fans. He simply reserves everything with his body and mind. Every time I have seen an opponent try to put on a lot of pressure and attack, he comes back x 2 and instantly stops them from even having the psychological edge that they can make him feel uncomfortable. This takes much more than elite skills it takes a very strong mind. When other boxers are looking for weakness and trying to expose other boxers, bivol is only focused on his strengths, that is why he is different to anyone currently in the boxing world.
For me the biggest difference, as Opetaia said is that he makes very un-natural movements look totally natural. His boxing looks very fluid and relaxed while he is doing the most complex combination of footwork, punches and stance.
I just gotta say I love the Soviet style of boxing. Not only the history of how it came about but the effectiveness of the footwork
It's one of the most difficult styles to spar with, they can generate solid punching power whilst being extremely mobile.

It just seems that nowadays the eastern part of the world is finally gettin the recognition it always deserved in pretty much every field. And boxing is one of them.
It sounds like Bivol has a good competent team. And he’s a team player to top it all off
The other unsung hero of boxing. Elie. A pioneer in going directly to the gyms to chat with fighters
*gyms to annoy fighters
I want to learn soviet boxing but i live right next to mexico so my gym only teaches that style of boxing
Try imitating him. He bounces back and forth, almost like as if you were dancing. Keep your shoulders and arms loose and relaxed 😌 only tense when you make contact
Outstanding analysis and production as always Jamie.
Much appreciated vissal! Glad you enjoyed
I have been to Kyrgyzstan. It is beautiful and wild! There is tough terrain every direction you look.
Absolutely fantastic fighter, was great to see him get a pretty brutal stoppage recently as well.
Great video! Could you look into Sugar Ray Leonard's training routine next? Another very disciplined fighter who Bivol takes inspiration from.
These kind of videos are my favorite my friend, thank you for a new one
Glad you like them!
Thank you for the video G! I have been trying to find something like this on Bivol for quite some time now and this is finally the first video I came across that is this in-depth, as he is one of my favorite fighters and someone who's style I strive to adopt as a lightweight. God Bless you, brother, once again, thanks a lot for making this video!!!
No worries Gleb! Glad to hear it was useful!
I really appreciate this video being I trained ppl in the training aspect of boxing but feel that there is still so much to learn which would play a major part in being a better trainer than I was yesterday. I love this!
Im 170 cm, southpaw and I felt in love with boxing recently. I never spar in my life but i felt in love with the way Bivol move. Is it possible for me to copy Bivol's style as I heard his boxing style is more suitable for tall people
You dont have to be taller boxer to fight like Bivol. Although it is said that Bivol uses soviet style, there is a slight difference in Bivol's footwork compared to traditional soviet style footwork. For example, when Bivol fights in pendulum(shuttle), he does the in and out movement on his whole feet rather than on his toes. Landing on both feet flat on the ground has a crucial effect on delivering an accented punch. An accented punch is more like a whiplash type of punch that is sharp in rhythm and speed.
Bivol is quite small for his weight class and he makes it work.
Bivol keep his upper body loose in the fight , all of the intensity is in his feet .
Watch bivol against zurdo who was atleast 3 or 4 inches taller.. He was in fighting, outfighting him whatever he wanted with that soviet style...
Usyk, Bivol, Terence, Loma ,Inoue
Bivol has quite Soviet background. Half Korean Half Moldovan [Romanian] born in Kyrgyzstan. But is ultimately a citizen of the Russian Empire.
He really looks like someone who wouldve been living right in the center between moldova and korea 😂
i did not know moldovan is romanian thanks
@@bergkampdennis5673 he never mentioned himself as Romanian, he always says he’s of Moldovan and Korean nationality, so this Romanian association is the guy making up facts. Moldovans are not Romanians, just like Ukrainians are not Russians
@@tripleg8381 actually Moldova is Romania.. but after the ww2 Russia made it as a "tampon" between Europe and CCCP
Research "Moldavia" - land between river Dniester and Carpathian Mountains
@@Hyperborean_2 only in imperialist head’s imagination it is one country. The cultural change and the fact that Bessarabia (including Moldova) was part of the Russian empire for centuries made Moldovans different to Romanians. Moldovans have their own dialect, most of them speak Russian, they have Russian and Ukrainian blood generally, and culturally they are more like mentioned countries rather than Romanians. Try to visit both countries some time
A disciplined in shape year round fighter
Lots of very interesting information in this video. Thanks for the well done job. Also it give me ideas to use some of those exercices in the boxing gym. Inspiration.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
really like this quote around 9:05 about coaches. dunno, i find that it shows a reflective side and intelligence. soviet style is my favourite so its easy to see why i like bivol
As always your videos are stunning‼️🥊
Keep going bro...
Thank you 🙌
Thanks for thissss
Good job on the ways and means of bivol.great to see the background and broad coverage of his russian training system, his coaches and trainers.bivol is a true stoic, doesnt know how to pronounce the word surrender, singleminded focus on the job in front of him.essentially a straight punched with a sweeper hook, m he is beautiful free puncher straight and extended arms.his range is medium to long.he shortens slightly to medium when punching in volume, attack being his strong point very difficult with his straight punching at range with both hands to counter punch, monzon had the height and reach and punched long and straight both hands with hook and upper cut, like bivol an effective straight puncher.very difficult to beat by counter punchers.excellant style and motion conventional and consistant, attack, defend, counter attack with volume 5 to 6 straight punches, with sweep hook.great style, old school boxing, straight lines, minimum bob and weave stuff.no wasted dnergy in fancy defence, move back, arms up ,the counter forward movement good long range attacking punching.straight and in clusters, then in shots of 3 ,defence for counter flurry, depending on the volume in the counter flurry, his rate will rise to 5 to 6 punches and more.great machine style fighter with supa stoic attitude, hard to beat.respect, great video.
Great vid lads
He gained the respect of many Mexican fan (I'm sure others as well) when he beat up Canelo. Bivol is very impressive

The Soviets were also pioneers in doping regimes which obviously also helped their boxing programs. That being said, Bivol is one of my favorite fighters. One of the best pound for pound in the world today.
as Russian I can tell, you did very good job covering everything, things you say are true and accurate. as for Dmitry Bivol he is amazing in his craft and perfect example of what kind of people so called Soviet "regime" was producing :)
I am sure that does not much with what you all been told 😏
Great video Jamie

Bivol is a helluva fighter and one of the Best in the world. I don't see any fighter out there beating him.
He is a modern day great. I love how he beat everyones hero canelo without breaking a sweat
He looks like a Korean...❤ (From his mother's side)
Keep up the good work champ 🎉
Thanks! Will do!
Historically, the Soviet’s focus was on Amateur Boxing as a de facto form of cheating. State sponsored amateurs would train full time and essentially be Professional Athletes competing against genuine amateur athletes. A major emphasis was on speed and points over Knock outs, which is congruent with the amateur rule set. This style discouraged Boxers in the USSR from turning Professional. The Government did not want Professional Athletes because they were a high risk of defection. Bivol has done an amazing job of evolving the Soviet Amateur Style into a comprehensive (and devastating) Professional style.
it was not the style that discouraged the boxers but not being allowed to get a passport to travel to fight professionally, pro sports within eastern block were really non existent, they existed but athletes were usually officially employees of some state owned companies or members of the military or police, and their salaries were paid by those employers with occasional performance bonuses, they were usually given the chance to leave the country an try to get contracts outside long time after their prime, it happened in all disciplines not just boxing
if you think that Bivol done some sort of spectacular adjustment to modify his boxing then you must have missed last 30 years of pro boxing where boxers from eastern block performed really well
Great video. Are there any books on the Soviet school of boxing which feature Nikolai Isaev?
I’m influenced by him I’m a bare knuckle boxer. I will use more of his techniques in my next fight
LOVE SOVIET STYLE BOXING SO NICE TO WATCH
An excellent style and one of the few with the old soviet style that had success in the amateurs but very few in the pros with success using this style which many say came from a trainer called kusikyants. The style never really transitioned well into the pros but bivol was able to break that barrier and has been very successful so expect more to come through trusting this style again in the pros
Yeah was definitely enhanced for amateur boxing. But Bivol has shown and and adapted it to be a success in the pros
Very good
Dmitry je pravi Majstor.. mozda najbolji Bokser na svetu. 😎😎
13:30 fly catching
Bivol power. By design he doesn’t sit down on his punches!
Interesting that he walks 1st thing in the morning and takes a nap so early
Isaev’s and Mashianov’s training of Bivol never overlapped. Mashianov took over Bivol’s training after Bivol and Isaev fell out(which in itself is a long story and both Bivol and Isaev gave different accounts on how and why it happened).
For the app this is a recommendation
Add footwork drills
Videos to go with some drills
And see if they are southpaw or orthodox and use what they put and build a training course with that..would be the best boxing app if it already isn’t

He's my favorite boxing in today's Era next is loma.
Imagine if he had one punch ko power coupled with his mobile outboxing style
He doesn’t have one punch ko power, but he definitely has the power to gain respect
All he needs is power to neutralize and he’s in total control. No need to KO.
“Initially his parents envisioned a different path for him, emphasizing academics.”
Not just initially. The man is a university graduate with a law degree. He can literally go practice law tomorrow if he wanted to.
7:02 broooo that Russian accent was spot on!!!!!

Bivol
Bivol has interesting thoughts. You rarely get that kind of insight about trainers.
In other interview he said many interesting details about changing his style for pro. F. e. his last trainer teached him to remove head when make the strike. He make some modernisation in his pendulum step etc
The Soviet style fighters have an advantage because most boxers aren't training or much knowledge in that style. So it makes sense to learn how they counter the pendulum, the southpaw of Usyk and Loma, and other tricks
What’s the name of the fighter from on 4:15.
Please can you do an andre ward one 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Bivol, Lomachenko, Golovkin, Usyk, The Klitschkos are the peak examples of Soviet style boxing
lomachenko is the fastest boxer in the history of boxing.
How can one not respect and admire this champ. No drugs, sex parties, tattoos, trash talk. Just a humble, likeable guy with iron discipline and mental strength. I believe he beats Beterbiev come June 1st🏆 Thanks for the upload🙏
Acupressure is basically nonsense - stretching and massage is definitely beneficial
Can you do dmitry pirog training
If he went down in super middleweight, he could easily collect all the belts from Canelo. He's the smallest in the light heavyweight.
Soviets are crushing the upper weight classes
They crush all classes. Don’t forget lomachenko. My favourite boxer. And they crush it in all classes in mma and wrestling
I think he beats Beterbiev. Benavidez too if the fight happens fast
whatever...who is that at 21:24?
Bivol kyrgystan 🇰🇬🇰🇬🇰🇬⚜️🥊⚜️🥊⚜️💪
Bivol looks like Bruce Lee
I can understand about the running for cardiovascular, but does the swimming actually do anything. Always kind of questioned that. Maybe it's just a waste of time for boxers.
Swimming is very beneficial for boxing because it allows for less impact on the body and helps with keeping your breathing stay controlled much like boxing. It is also a full body workout and in my opinion harder than running. However I wouldn’t recommend just swimming. I would say running is more easier to do for the reason that you can just go outside and run rather than finding a good pool to swim.
@@izanth1 how do you explain that boxers who don’t particularly swim notice no particular disadvantage? And those who do lose by ok? Boxing supposed to be who wins, not who is healthiest. Then we can do yoga too.
@@kimgysen10 I said it’s beneficial and can help you with less impact on the joints meaning less of a chance of an injury. I never even said anything about winning, and it really depends on the boxer. It being a big waste of time really depends on the boxers time management. Good boxers like Terence Crawford, Usyk, Anthony Joshua, Lomochenko all added swimming to their cardio. It all really depends on the boxer and if they are a full time athlete or not
@@izanth1 You're right, thanks for the explanation
Swimming develops almost all the muscles of the body

Dimitri is amazing, but Beterbiev is a monster.
Please 🙏 God let Bivol fight Benavidez later this year because Ducknelo makes me sick now
Bivol is not a small lightheavy weight alot of are too big for there weight class.
I understand the current hype for Bivol. I am a huge Bivol fan, and my first trainers were pure Russian-styled boxers who taught me the pendulum style, but I have to point out some major problems. First, from a statistical standpoint, Bivol is one of the few outliers who succeeded with the traditional Soviet-style in the professional ring. In fact, he's the only one to do so at a world-class level. Beterbiev is not a Russian-styled boxer, and Pirog actually purposely learned Philly Shell and seeked non-Russian coaches becasue he believed that "no coach in the country can prepare me well for the pro style." Therefore, statistically speaking, American-styled and Mexican-styled boxers are much more likely to become world champions. Second, Bivol can't really throw uppercuts nor can he use head movements at a high level. He uses probably the best 1-2-3s in the game and in-n-out footwork. The problem is, his arsenal is severely limited, and when people become familiar with his style, he will face problems because he can't use a variety of boxing techniques to overcome new challenges.
Go watch his fight vs Smith he threw some nasty uppercuts. He also mixed some uppercuts in combinations vs Canelo and used them to control him when he tried closing the gap in the later rounds. Its a misconception from everyone Bivol doesnt use the traditional soviet style, he uses a modified stance, he uses a lot of microsteps in and out of range instead of swinging back and forwards, he doesnt waste movements, he sits down on his punches more and mixes in a lot of american and mexican styles. Also he can fight at close range too he isnt as limited as you describe, its just not his strongest element but still fairly competitive there too
If Israel Madrimov has the style habits like Dmitry Bivol, I won't be surprised if he beats Crawford.
Similar style but not the same.
Madrimov is a sloppy fighter. He’s really good but won’t Beat Crawford
its canelos daddy
He’s not a Soviet, what’s wrong with you guys????? you understand that’s wrong, stop labeling people by race or fanatic ideals, he’s a Russian fighter who’s an outside boxer and counter puncher that’s it, if you haven’t stepped in the ring and done more than just a strength and conditioning class, watch a fight every once in a while and actually know the fighters who built the sport then stop your point is invalid
Relax we know he’s not a real soviet. But he comes from a school of boxing that was born in the soviet era. Hence why so many refer to it as that. It also can be referred to as Eastern European style as well. But if you can’t tell he that uses a lot of the old ideology’s in his style, stance and techniques from that era. You need to watch more boxing from then to see that he does use it. I do think he has adapted his style though since going pro. And we see much more western Influence now.
Unproven ..
Disrespect saying loma and usyk are Soviet.
No it’s not. Ukraine was part of the soviet bloc. Open a history book
