I was there. No higher point of emotion than Jaco in a fan of green laser lights during Dream Clock. I cried. And then I met him afterwards at the stage door. Shorter had skipped over to the limo, we stuck our heads in to say hullo. They all signed our albums. Jaco was very verbal about stuff. He explained this new thing called Digital Delay. Most valuable evening of my life. Pinnacle. Heaven (if there was one) looked like that night.
See my earlier post of meeting Jaco 1980 Hammersmith. I remember the lasers, back screens and Jaco's solo with loop effects and Purple Haze! Loved the beginning with the percussionists meditating and they never seemed to stop the beat throughout. I always thought Jaco was French or something Latin because of his short trousers and caps. Surprised that he had a Californian type drawl when he spoke!
HOLY SHIT BATMAN, WHO THE FUCK HATES THIS SONG. I KNOW A RICH BLANK BLANK, CROSS EYE DUCK? TALK ABOUT BASS LINES HOLY SHIT BAD MAN! HOPE YOUR IN HEAVEN RIGHT NOW JAMING AWAY FOREVER. LIKE YOU SAID GOD MADE ALL THE GREAT WORK OF ARTS, BUT HE PUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO KEEP HIS CREATION GOING. WOW! THANK YOU JACO! NO OFFENSE TO THE REST OF THE BAND HERE, GREAT JOB. NO OFFENSE TO YOU WHO DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THEIR IS NO GOD, HE MADE JACO THAT'S HOW GREAT HE IS.
Excellent post. I was there too. All the WR gigs at the Odeon were off the planet. Saw Jaco for the first time as part of a triple header gig there - George Duke/Billy Cobham band opened (Alphonso Johnson on bass), then John McLaughlin and Shakti, and then WR. Proper gigs in those days..........,!!!!!!!
Thank you one of the best WR tracks. Joe and the whole band rock from start to finish. The first time I heard this. Wow. Some people will never hear this in their born days. It's our job to reduce that number. X.
was originally recorded on the Night Passage LP probably, great pictures. Thanks for this one, their music was so creative and ahead of its time, I don't think we will ever catch up with them
Yeah Jaco was still in great shape in 1980. But like a boxer who is still in his prime, he knows he's only got a short time to be there. Jaco didn't know when his prime ended. He just past it one night and the sad decline began. I think without Weather Report to keep him at that very high level plus a lot of other reasons outside of music, Jaco began to fade. But without him, I can't even imagine it as a bass player. he was 100% pure genius.

You can make this poetic as you want but Jaco had severe mental problems exacerbated by drugs, he played the bass too.
I was there. 🧨
focking amazing
WOW!!
Solid
I was at this gig. I took my sister - I don't think she really "got it". They were all monsters.
Nice thanks for posting!
this is not the same recording as the one used for "Night Passage"
Insane
holy shyte.
To me Wayne Shorter was always one of the more tasteful and genorous horn players....kinda like the Marsalius brothers. We want to hear Jaco really.
Well, I want to hear Shorter too, he's my favorite sax player. But I agree, his restraint is dynamite.
Woweee zoweee! Can these cats cook, or what?? :)
4:30 .... What's going on there?
extraodinary
