What a treasure! It was good of Artie to release these broadcasts so that future generations who weren't around at the time can also appreciate his superb artistry. Oh to have been at the the Hotel Lincoln to hear Artie live. However with the good fidelity on this broadcast recording this is the next best thing.
Artie was for my money the best of all the bands at it's peak in a crowded feel. He also composed or co-composed dozens of tunes/songs and for me his clarinet playing was always quirky and more colourful than BG.
@@the50sjazzfan The picture of the band with Helen in front of a window are the 1938 band. All the other oictures are of the studio band in the film 'Second Chorus' (1940).
