    Pop the bonnet and then re shut it - worked for me 😄

    Its to do with the deployment of the bonnet during an impact with a pedestrian. The bonnet has two explosive charges which lift it away from the engine to prevent a direct impact and cushioning any contact after a frontal accident.
    I have just replaced the left front sensor on my 2007 which caused the same fault to be displayed. they cost about £60 from Jag.

      Thanks so much for the advice. Is it easy to replace the sensors? Can an amateur like me do it at home or is it best left to a garage in your opinion?

      @@KausarClassics I did mine at home, just a case of removing the nose on the XKR. you need to have the codes read to see which one is faulty. There are actually three but it's usually either of the £160 ones that fail, I did both for the cost. They have been superseded to a single bolt installation where as the older 2007 ones have two bolts. Part number is C2P17132. Also my apologies I've just noticed my clerical price error on my previous post. 🙄

      You don’t have to remove the nose,, open the bonnet and remove the plastic piece between the radiator and the nose, you can reach down and unplug them before removing the bolt. When you fit the new one, attach the plug 1st in case you slip and drop it during the fitting.

      @@66Pipes66 Yes you can on the XK but unfortunately not on the XKR.

      @@66Pipes66 This works on the 4.2 version but the 5.0 XK has 2 condensor pipes blocking access.

    Thanks
    I have the same warning.. I didn't know I could clear the warning and get the clock back though, thanks for that. Mine was caused (but I can't prove it), when the car spent a month at the garage waiting for a 'rare' module. When I got it back and was cleaning it, I noticed the front grille had been pushed back off its clip.. so the car had been bumped in the (JLR) garage forecourt at some point. I know it happened there because I'm the only person who drives it and parks it. It doesn't go anywhere where its left - no shopping car parks etc.. but without evidence I have nowhere to go with JLR.. Still, I've done the sensors and all is good, apart from the sagging head liner that's just happened!

    Something to do with the bonnet hinges with pyro to pop up the bonnet if you knock someone over?

  • @stevepitts7998

    Was out yesterday evening and the dreaded warning light came up on my XK.
    Remembered you'd posted about this, so came for a repeat view.
    Next ... try the bonnet trick and see if it resets 🤞

      Oh mate… I am afraid it will eventually become too annoying to ignore and I’d recommend replacing the sensors as it’s just delaying the inevitable

    I have the very same problem . Its all about the air bag under the hood bonnet ( left or right ) as i clear the warning the same

    19 mpg is reasonable. My old 4.2 XJ8 with just 300 bhp didn't average much more than that

    Had the same problem. Had to have the front sensor’s changed. You should get this warning only when you have had an accident, is my understanding of their intended use/value. However, when I took it into the main dealer they said it was a common fault. Only one sensor was at fault but advised I should change both of them due to the labour cost of getting too them. If I recall this was about a £500 job. Damm things should not be on there. We all know when we have hit something.

      Agree totally. I paid £330 to have them both changed but literally every x150 I have come across has this fault and needs them changing

      I i think they have a number of times false positive set offs before you need to change them. not sure how may. mine went off a year and a half ago and never returened

    I have the same error code on mine it mostly resets itself but I was told on the xkec club forums that apparently it’s to do with a cable for the system that runs inside the front bumper and gets worn down with movement and trips the sensor I’ll try find the post and I’ll put it in the comments

  • @paulhart1218
    @paulhart1218 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had it twice in my 2 months of XK 5.0 ownership. On both occasions it went away when I switched off and on again (that old computer trick). The forums suggest it's not an uncommon issue and perhaps no big deal. Sorry you're only getting 19.1MPG. I do steady medium length motorway runs in mine and get 30mpg plus or minus 2

    • @KausarClassics

    Hi! I have the same error on my XKR '09. Service station in my country can fix it for 60$. Or u can fix it yourself with a SDD cable (disable pedestrian protect system)

      @66Pipes66 ปีที่แล้ว

      They go bad, there’s an updated part available that doesn’t go wrong (as much). You don’t have to remove the nose to do it.

    • @RandomMusingsUK

      Disabling the pedestrian sensor system could void your insurance in the event of an accident involving a pedestrian and lead you personally liable for damages.

  • @stevebass3992
    @stevebass3992 ปีที่แล้ว

    Common problem. It is one of the two pedestrian sensors behind the bumper. Easy to change once you have removed the under tray. Change both. Buy from SnG Barratt

    • @KausarClassics
      @KausarClassics  ปีที่แล้ว

      Car is booked in for the 24th May to have these changed by someone who can remove and replace things without doing damage (Jaguar Chiltern). Funnily enough the error has gone again but it won’t matter as they’re getting changed regardless of whether the error returns. It’s a common fault so I’d rather have peace of mind
