Active Bonnet | PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION Skoda Octavia DTC B10381B B10391B Igniter Resistance too high

- In this week video we have a 2013 Skoda Octavia 1.6 Diesel with an Active Bonnet Hood Pedestrian Protection system which have been triggered after the driver hit and went over a tree trunk , fault codes B10381B " Igniter 1 for pedestrian protection resistance too high " and B10391B " Igniter 2 for pedestrian protection resistance too high " .
Although i was aware of this system this was the first time that i've worked on it so i need to get more educated in this system. After the driver hit the tree trunk the two bonnet hinges igniter went off where the igniter rod pushed the back of the bonnet up , the idea is if you hit a pedestrian the bonnet will cushion the landing because the new position of the hinges allows movement..

Great fix but honestly, active bonnet is useless. Majority of auto-pedestrian injuries or fatalities are at much higher speed than a gentle nudge.
Thanks mate ... I was thinking the same it’s one of those gimmick things that manufactures come up with but then I thought if there are deaths in low speed I’m all for it 👍
Hi mate. I am from Ukraine and I have a car Volkswagen Touran 2015. I need to deactivate the pedestrian safety system, can you help me do it? How do I correctly code the airbag module in my car so that the pedestrian safety system is inactive?
I gotta feeling that this system is a bit pricey.

So apparently the Restraint Module doesn't require replacement after deployment? I suppose since it is not considered a collision?

Thanks Pauly , at least for this Skoda it was quite inexpensive but it can very with other makes and models .
I was pleasantly surprised that the restraint module didn’t need to be replace or crash data to be cleared I thought the same thing maybe it’s not considered to be a collision as such , cheers mate 👍

does the skoda superb 2 diesel have a drain tap on the radiator, i want to change the antifreeze, many thanks.
in order not to replace the igniters which are a useless cost in my opinion, is it possible to connect the wires of the pretensioners that have risen and then with the OBD turn off the warning light so as not to have to replace them but to be able to turn off the warning light inside the panel? thank you
Always disconnected battery for 20 mins before working on srs.
in terms of bolt tightening probably tiny little mark before loosen it will help.
However sure enough you tighten it just 100% as it need to be.😀
That’s a good idea I should have thought of that , hopefully he’s not having another tree episode but I think it should be ok 👍

I am just in the same situation but for an Audi. They quoted me around 300€+ for the igniters and labor. But looks very straight forward.
Ordered the parts now I'm waiting for them but I did put a question of a forum to which they said that only Audi can clear that DTC after replacing it but I can see that you did too. Are you sure the error doesn't come back?
And 1 more question. I have the same error as "tank lid activation..." Did you find a way to fix that?

The airbag fault never came back again I’m not for if it’s the same for the Audi but I suppose it should be the same , I never looked into the tank lid fault

Thanks mate ... I spoke to the owner and he said the ac was working fine but I’ll be checking the ac condenser more closely when the car comes back for the other bits of trim , it was a bit of a rush to get the taxi back on the road just before Xmas but we made it just in time 😁👍👍👍

Interesting. I've never heard of this system. I'm not sure how that helps protect a pedestrian however.
it diverts the pedestrian upwards to reduce the angle they hit the screen and been proven to reduce the impact usually to the head. Every little helps

Super interesting system Wyatt , for what I’ve been reading the main purpose of this system is to cushion the impact of pedestrian to the hood , specially preventing head injury 🙌👍👍 cheers pal

Looks like the radiator is toast as well.
The coolant level was in the minimum line but i,vê runned the car to operating temperature and couldn’t see any leaks 👍
@@CarsExposed The front one might be the AC condenser. Not sure just by looking at the video.
Even if it doesn't leak now, it might leak in a few weeks due to the damage. I guess the owner will decide if he wants to replace it or not.
