My surgeon told me not to start Physical therapy until 6 weeks after surgery, they put my brace to 60 degrees on the first day and then 90 degrees after 3 weeks, I got no instructions to bend my knee at all, it has been 4 weeks now and i still can't bend my knee 90 degrees, why are diffeent surgeons giving different instructions on the same recovery? I mean the MPFL surgeries can't be THAT different that the recovery is this different?
you should get that checked out if you cant bend your knee to 90 degrees after 2 weeks your ligament can stiffen up on you, I went to one of the HSS locations and they are one of the best for theses things and I started bending my knee a day or two after surgery and started physical therapy the next week. Also my brace wasn't unlocked till 2-3 weeks after.
@@milvern17 Hi! I was also 16 when I had my surgeries (both knees). I didn’t get crutches but I’m sure they would provide them if I asked. The day of the surgery was pretty good in terms of mobility - I think due to the painkillers of the operation!. The first week or so is pretty tough as it’s very different from the norm as you can’t be active at all really. But as long as you keep taking the pain killers and making sure it gets good rest, that’ll go by the end of the 2nd week ish. For my first knee (left) they let me take my leg brace off after 4 weeks due to my physio thinking recovery went very fast. But for my right it was the usual 6 weeks before the leg brace comes off. The leg brace can be removed at any time but this was the point I no longer needed it. It basically keeps your leg from bending too much after the operation. Since they came off, I was following my physios excerises to strengthen my knee up so I could start to focus on my sport based excersies after over a year off at this point of the course of 2 operations. The focus then was getting stronger and my knee used to impact again as I play rugby which took about 3 months as I wanted to make sure I had the best chances of the surgery succeeding. I’ve been playing rugby now regularly for the last 8 months and everything has held up really really well and I don’t even worry about them anymore. Basically, if you follow the advice and exercises you are given by the professionals in order to have the most efficient recovery then you’ll be back to full level pretty quickly within 4-5 months of the operation. And the surgery is fully worth it. Hope this helps ease any worries!
@DanemcyGaming My son is worried. He's pretty active and he had his 2nd dislocation in basketball around Christmas time so hes opting for surgery next Tuesday. He also plays football and is worried about regaining his strength and speed by the time fall comes around. I think he will recover pretty quickly, given his level of activity and it only being one leg . I'm hoping it goes well. I think the recovery will be tough on him mentally
Just got my MPFL surgery done was instructed by surgeon to put as much weight on leg that feels comfortable
why do you suggest to use crutches x 8 weeks post operative?
