    Years later and this is still the most helpful video on mpfl surgery experience. Mine is on Wednesday and these has eased a lot of my anxiety.

    I just had the same surgery. I had a similar experience! I'm at post-op day 1. I'm glad to hear about your experience. It's nice to know lots of young people get this surgery too. I don't feel alone now.

      Omg good luck with your surgery! I’m glad I could soothe some nerves, definitely come back once your surgery is done and you’re recovering and let me know how it went. I hope it goes well and you have a fast recovery

      @@LiaLamonica It's been almost a week now and I'm doing ok. The surgery was way less scary than I expected and though recovery has been painful, I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. I do have one question though, how long did it take you to be able to bend your knee to 90 degrees? I've been a little worried about it because I don't want it to get stiff, but my physio says my progress is fine.

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It took me about a month maybe a little bit more to get a full 90 degree bend and even then it was a little stiff! I’m glad your surgery went well, I wouldn’t worry about your knee getting stiff too much just make sure you do the exercises they give you to do at home

    I just wanted say thanks for making these videos... having this op soon. I have had different ops before and one thing that really upset me was nurses in recovery that made me feel I was an annoyance! The other thing... you crying in recovery. Don't know if anyone has said but having had this Happen to me, my anesthesiologist said it is really common. Apparently the anesthesia lowers your inhibitions and just BAM... crying, screaming, you name it! ♡♡♡

      @@hpiq700 well honestly, it hasnt gone well for me. could be that i just haven’t been working out enough, but my operated still isn’t at 100% function. there’s pain when i jump, run at full speed, or anything that requires a bit of force. on the other hand, my range of motion and kneecap stability is actually pretty good. i can kneel and do all sorts of similar actions. also im not trying to worry you or anything, but just wanting to let you know that you really gotta put in the work if you want to get back to 💯.

      @@hommeboy for real, thanks man. I have dislocated my knee twice now. First time I put the work in and made it strong went back to sport, but it wasn’t the same still felt something wrong. Ignored the feeling and pop second time, I don’t think strengthening it and physio will do much for me. So opted for surgery. Little worried I won’t get back to how it was

    hanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

      omg so sorry that I didn't get to this sooner! If you had already had the surgery I hope your recovery is going well but for me personally, when I first got there I had an IV put in that was supplying me fluids bc I fasted 24 hours before. About 30 minutes before I went in to surgery the anesthesiologist came in and told me about what she was giving me then simply connected the plunger and integrated it into my IV, I didn't feel any of that. In about 20 minutes I felt super tired and I was getting groggy. When they wheeled me out of the pre-op room I was already dozing off and was out like a light! That's all I can remember but thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed :)

    Hey! Im getting this surgery in a week and i was wondering how the pain was after the surgery? If it was super bad and how immobil you were after the surgery and if your leg is healed up now? Does it feel better?

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! So after the surgery I was still under most of the hospitals anesthesia and very drowsy and sleepy, as that wore off I would take 3 ibuprofen around the clock and with that the pain would be about 3-4 on the pain scale. I had a completely straight leg immobilizer so I couldn’t walk and I was told to not bear weight right after surgery. And yes it does feel a lot better now! I just recently posted a video that’s 2 months post op discussing it better if you wanna go check that out. I hope your surgery goes well!

    • @LiaLamonica
      @LiaLamonica  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry I didn’t see the other portion of your comment. During the first few days I would follow the exercises given to me by my doctor. Which included leg lifts with the straight immobilizer on and then bending it slightly with the immobilizer off. I could bend it to about a 120 degree angle at first but that got better as I kept doing the exercise over the next week or so
