    should mention the crystalline style (a digestive enzyme) found in the digger. it might freak some people out if they don't know what it is. great video! that noodle recipe looks soooo yummy!

    Oh I like the new format! I’ve been going to razor clam dig a lot over the years and still leaned a lot, particularly the ocean condition trick. Thanks Blake, I know that probably was quite a bit of work to put together!

    Pugetopia is what I call the area in Washington between Olympia and Everett.
    Great episode. I've been talking about going clamming with my kids for a while now. You've got me searching tides, so chances are looking really good that we'll go soon. Thanks!

    • @WAFishQuest

      Awesome, thanks Jarom! Worse case, if you can't make it in the next couple months the spring tides that occur early in the morning are a great excuse to stay on the coast for a weekend!

    I have kept razor clams alive in buckets of salt water in my refrigerator for couple days by either just pouring sea water into another bucket to add oxygen or just having enough water to keep razor clams wet so clams can stick necks above water level to breath. I will alternate having bucket in and out of refrigerator for few ours at a time. You can also splash the water around to add oxygen. Keeping razor clams alive in salt water allows the razor clams to expell sand making the razor clams easier to clean.

    We went the same day, it was gorgeous! We started at 2:30, got our limit in 30 mins and were first to leave lol. We went to mockrocks the next day. Every time we go to that beach the sand is like concrete! Digging was hard but we got our limits. Your video was awesome!

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a ton Brent! Good point on the sand. If I do a follow up might be good info for me to include. Sometimes I'll see people in areas you know the sand is rock hard.

    I like to get ‘em super close to the surf where they’re necking because not only can you see if it’s a bigger clam or not, but the sand is softer and the clam is on top! Very educational video Blake! Happy clamming!

    We have used a bucket with salt water with a bubblator. To keep the water oxygenated. Works well for getting them to purge more sand

    What a great episode! WDWF should steal this from you to promote clam digging because this is so educational. I like the broiler recipe for this because its far less greasy than deep frying the clams, plus there's no pan of oil to have to discard afterwards. But the clam alfredo recipe looks like the bomb. It was funny, chewing sounds around, "this is to die for . . . . arff glug rrrmrmf (swallow), man that's so good!"

  • @willapanews9761

    The vent on out side of the clam gun barrel is to allow air into bottom of clam gun hole to break suction to allow clam gun user to pull up the clam gun with sand and clam from hole much easier than a non vented clam gun.

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah thank you! I'll have to do a follow up about that. The vent always sprays up a little loose sand, so i figured it was pressure displacement going down. I know you're right tho! 👍

    • @willapanews9761
      @willapanews9761 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WAFishQuest The pvc clam gun only has the one vent system to vent pressure from inside of clam gun when pushing it into the sand and to create suction when vent hole is covered to pull the sand and hopefully a clam up out of sand. The clam guns with metal clam extraction tube that have a vent running the length of the clam gun clam extraction barrel are easier to pull out of the sand because this vent that the pvc clam gun does not have breaks the suction at the end of the clam gun. If this external suction vent gets clogged with sand then the clam gun suction makes it harder to pull out of the hole like the pvc clam gun always is.

    That razor clam fettuccine sounds amazing, definitely going to make that one when I get home. Quick tip for thickening your sauce a little bit is just to add a little splash of your pasta boiling water to your sauce. It is full of starches that wash out of the noodles as they cook, so it works great as a thickening agent.

    3rd type of clam gun has that tube on the outside to make it easier to pull the gun back up - lessens the vacuum effect

    I believe Linguine is the name of the type of pasta you made. Pro tip, if you break your uncooked linguine or other long pasta in half while still in package it makes it easier to cook and eat with out making a mess or having food hanging out your mouth when eating.

    So, you don't put them in water so that can spit out sand and waste. Wow! that's the first time I have heard that method. I believe you because my clam's necks are fully out and do not retract. So, they must be dead. I process them in the morning, and they still taste good. Going forward, I will try your method.

    • @WAFishQuest
      @WAFishQuest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the razor clams you completely gut and rinse them so it's not an issue. (or at least I do). If they were manila clams I would keep them in water to purge their sand out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
