  • Black Ops 6 is right around the corner, and the introduction of omnimovement has once again sparked a fierce debate around movement in Call of Duty. So why is movement so controversial? And how can we end this debate once and for all?

    Feel like I should point out a few key things here that I didn’t expand upon too much on in the video. Matchmaking feel is not the same thing as gameplay feel. Saying “people are just better now and fans of older games have just been passed by” may be true (and it’s a point I myself made in my last video), but that’s a separate discussion entirely - this is about the fact that modern movement has fundamentally changed the gameplay feel of Call of Duty and made the game way faster, unpredictable and randomized.
    I don’t disagree that even remakes won’t feel the same because of the combination of modern matchmaking systems and people just being more skilled in general. That is likely true. But that’s not really relevant to the point that I’m trying to make in this video. Omnimovement, Slide-canceling and TAC/Unlimited Sprint are gameplay features that have been added not just to give players another area of gunfighting skill to improve upon, but to alter the way the game plays at its core.
    It’s fine if you like it that way. The franchise will undoubtedly continue to cater to you and the tens of millions of other people who like it that way as well. I just think that older fans, as consumers of this multi-billion dollar franchise, have the right to ask for a product that replicates what the original, highly captivating Call of Duty formula was able to put forth, as I argued in this video. Thanks for the discussion as always people🤙

    With the announcement of the new battlefield supposedly going back to the series highs. Maybe there will be a game for people who don't enjoy sliding, hoping around, and being constantly in the action. Its kind of ridiculous, EA just had to keep remaking BF3/4 and they would have dominated the mil shooter genre.

    Problem is some guys in suits with MBAs that never even played these games are just making the decisions based on profit max/return equity to shareholders mentality. Makes more sense when you consider their decisions from that perspective.

    I don't have much of a problem with faster combat and omni movement, but when someone can dive and spin around like a fan blade mid air making them impossible to hit while they use a juiced LMG that one shots from any distance? That's where I draw the line.

    I just have to say, that older cods, probably had twitchier gunfights due to so many guns having a much faster TTK, semi autos had proper high rpm limits and so on. They also have their own advanced movement techniques, crouch jumping. You could jump farther and faster, I use this to this day in MW2 09. It's timing based, and aim input based, you could go nowhere or go sailing pretty far. As soon as you hit crouch your momentum is locked until you hit the ground. Excellent tool for challenging corners, and doing some platforming. I'd say it's more difficult than sliding and slide cancelling. Occasionally I'll end up in a modded lobby, you know, they changed it to a search and destroy, but there's no bomb. They also often activate the campaign movement, I think it unlocks the elevator glitch again, but it also has way more impact with strafe and crouch jumping, the movement speeds I can get up to with those campaign physics is ridiculous and makes all the slide cancelling I've experienced seem slow, especially when it comes to just traveling distance. Those guys usually kick me out after I ruin their trickshotting plans by killing them all lol. Those campaign movement physics from MW2, I'd love to see that.

    I agree with you. Player movement has gotten way too fast and way out of hand. The play speed has become incredibly quicker and needs to take a step back. There’s nothing wrong with slower gameplay. Everyone is comparing to TF2 but even TF2 has fast movement that at least makes sense and is maneuverable.

  • @Roestzwiebler

    The movement isnt the reason cod got sweaty af. MW 2019 is the worst cod of all time and has no movement at all. The problem is obviously sbmm. I dont get where this movement debate is comming from. 🤔

    COD wants annual release and they want to appeal to the mass customer. People want "boots-on-the-ground" while simultaneously want something new yet stimulating from the game. This problem got introduced with COD Ghosts being too slow, to the Jet Pack era being too fast, and COD finally have to compromised at COD WWII with exploring new options for the movements.
    COD needs to keep its 6v6 signature, and they have already improved the gunplay, gadgets, sound and visual with each entry, while maps are maps and the perks, spawns and progressions are just important supplements to the overall gameplays. Eventually they have to make improvement to the movements or else COD would "look" stale for the mass customer. Obviously Blackout and Warzone have heavy influenced over the current iterations of multiplayer, but it's just not enough for COD as an annual series stopped at having limited stamina, average strafing speed or removing sliding (diving is a hit or miss).
    Side note: it's just a theory but having official remasters not just splitting the player base for them but also splitting the volume in the social media content creations against other gaming titles (while keeping the Warzone), and the same could apply to not creating a "classic" mode within the newer release.

    Battlefield is going back to no tac sprint and that is very attractive for me. Doing the same for cod would be a good start but I would need more like no SBMM (Team Balancing is enough) etc. less focus on selling skins and in general rid of the ugly dumb fortnite skins etc. I think Battlefield will put some pressure on Cod soon by going back to more classic stuff. Going back to basics is trending in gaming these days.

  • @oRevvy

    this is just my pov on it but if i wanted to play a more tactical game i would go and play a tac shooter (valo, cs, r6) theres games out there already that offer that slower paced more methodical gameplay that people want. it makes sense for cod to move into the direction of a movement shooter as there really isnt many other popular games within that subgenre, sure you have games like overwatch and apex but overwatch is more ability based than pure gunplay and apex is a br so it has alot of downtime inbetween fights.

    The other solution id argue is just letting the devs make their own game and support it for over a year instead of abandoning it with the new release. Its clear Infinity Ward and Treyarch have their own styles- IF wanting to make more grounded old school CoDs and Trey appealing to the zoomer movement shooters: just let them have a CoD title they can support long term. Its insane every year theres a new CoD that changes literally everything and pisses of huge parts of the community. MWIII was an immediate reaction to the zoomers being pissed about MWII being an actual shooter with slower movement. Just give each fanbase a title that appeals to that with like a 3-4 year life cycle. And relegate Sledgehammer to Warzone or something idk fuck that studio.

    This video seems super strange and counter to your last one. The big thing you’re missing is that the one thing that really matters as far as making a cod feel “og” is the one thing that can never go backwards: the people. If you think the “og” players are gonna hop on MW2 remastered and go back to holding a 2kd every game, you’re simply living in the past. These “zoomers” you’re talking about will simply follow the “og” players back to the old cods and stop on them there, too. These kids aren’t just good at the new cods, they’re good at first person shooters, period. They have the luxury of playing 10 hours a day, they have better twitch aim than you ever did, they’ll watch hours of TH-cam videos to find the best setup, settings, etc. Xdefiant is basically a shining example of this. No SBMM, movement similar to old cods, generally “good” maps, and yet people are still complaining about the “sweats” taking over their lobbies. The honest truth is that the “og” players just can’t keep up anymore, and nothing the game developers can do can make up for that.

      @nayanmistry1618 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I gotta keep reminding myself of this when I think going back to cod 4/WaW styles would help.
      One thing I do think though is that 2019 movement wasn't too wild but wz1 had so much more depth to cod I think. You could use any gun and play most styles and still do well. You can't really do that now

    • @Yeags
      @Yeags  วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      That’s not the point I was trying to make with this video. Player skill doesn’t matter in this discussion - it’s about the gameplay feel/flow. I never said that OG players could get on these hypothetical remasters and dominate like in the old days - you’re probably right that newer players would dominate a COD remaster too. But that’s not what this conversation is about - it’s about giving old fans a COD gameplay experience in line with what we saw back in the day. Matchmaking is not the same thing as gameplay feel - those two things can influence each other, but they represent two different aspects of the multiplayer experience

      @@Yeags then you have h2m, giving exactly what alot of people want and shutting it down. and i would bet that the newer generation with higher apm etc cant stomp the ogs that hard in the older cods, since the gameflow is so different. best example is h2m, you cant slide or barely bunny hop a corner. your ads movement is very slow. your base movement is faster. its more tactical and less apex like. you have to pick the angles, know the angles and how to peak/push them, also the guns couldnt insta kill you on 50m+ except snipers. snipers were harder to detect etc. yes they would have way better flicks, but ogs still know the game and have probably good aiming, and thats what youd need in a typical 1v1 gunfight.

    • @mr.thammisses6119
      @mr.thammisses6119 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I disagree the thing about older games is there movement is so much slower making you rely on gamesense and good positioning to get an edge. Watch these " zoomers" play old Halo where there's barely any movement other then strafing and crouching and you find that those players won't do that well in that environment until they begin to adapt. Doesn't matter how good your movement and aiming are if you can't put yourself in good positions. I also don't really see a different in multiplayer as it feels just as hard as it always has even in the early 2000. Granted I don't play any new cods but I've played apex forever. Which has an insane movement ceiling.

    • @littleroach4909
      @littleroach4909 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@mr.thammisses6119 Gotta disagree with you here. The younger generation is generally better at "slower" fps's as well. Look at games like valorant, siege, CS2, etc. These games are generally considered "slow" by fps standards but the people dominating those games are, for the most part, the same "sweats" crushing you in your COD lobby. If you can play fast, you can play slow too. If you can play slow, that doesn't mean you can play fast.
