La Ronde Review Montreal, Quebec, Canada - Coaster Studios Was La Wrong

  • Many are familiar with the Coaster Studios La Ronde review. In fact, his review of Six Flags La Ronde along with others have given La Ronde the name of the worst Six Flags park and made it the laughingstock of the chain. However, I just went to La Ronde and think it might be the most underrated Six Flags park in the world, even more so than Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Rides such as Goliath, Vampire, Titan, Demon, Le Orbite, Le Monstre, Vol Ultime, Toboggan Nordique, Dragon, and Chaos were all great and the food, atmosphere, theming, appearance, layout, and operations especially deserve more credit. In this review, I will describe in great detail all of the great changes La Ronde has made since Taylor Bybee reviewed it. I will review many rides (including a Goliath review) and provide travel tips so you can also have a great visit to La Ronde. Enjoy this full review of La Ronde in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

    No disrespect is directed toward Canobie Coaster or Coaster Studios, I am just using them as reference points because their reviews of the park have affected its image.
    Quote from La Ronde review Coaster Studios: I didn't think a park could actually be this bad, but leave it to Six Flags to operate what I consider to be the worst theme park I have ever been to.

    La Ronde was last on Coaster Studios' Europe trip this year, will be interesting to see if they had a better experience this time.
    Minirail is the oldest attraction there, it was built for the 1967 Expo.
    Ednor was originally Serial Thriller at The Great Escape, and La Ronde very nearly ended up with Green Lantern before the pandemic delayed construction. Maybe Six Flags wants to put old rides there to save on costs.
    Cobra and Super Manege were very old, and Cobra was rough- really banged your head. The park desperately needs some new coasters now.

They arrived in the afternoon and the park was already packed because of the fireworks show that was happening at night (half of the park was closed an hour before the show because some fireworks debris can fall on the rides) so it’s bad luck but I hope he’s going to at least give Laronde the creds for the fireworks cause it’s considered as one of the best in the world and as someone who saw the majority of the show this year I can tell why

    That said, your positive experience doesn’t discredit Coaster Studios’ (and many other people’s) negative experience. Every park experience is different, and it’s good to hear lots of reviews to get a sense of the range of experiences.

      I hope you enjoy your time when you go here. Also, you are right about this not discrediting Taylor’s review. However, my main goal was to show people that not every trip to La Ronde is like his because there are many who call La Ronde the worst park without going based on negative reviews. I just wanted people to know that the park might be worth giving a chance. Also, the title was just too funny for me to pass up on.

    Used to like Laronde when I was a kid. LE Monstre always felt like it would collapse at any moment hahaha, still pretty fun for an old ride. But yeah, Six Flag did nothing great to the park beside building the Goliath and a couple of flat rides (while removing iconics ones). The park lost a bit of it's nostalgia feel and became more of a generic Six Flags park over time.
    If you come during July/August, stay for the fireworks competition !

      @@_pic0_301 I was too and same for Cobra because a lot of mechanics at La Ronde told me that they had completely renovated the ride during the winter and that they pretty much fixed all of the major problems that the ride had for years. And they were even planning to reopen the ride with VR goggles on it. But they made a last minute decision to close the ride to expand the parking lot and they used the excuse that the ride was in a bad condition to be operational which is bullshit. If it got removed it was because the maintenance was too expensive, it being under the bridge put too much stress on it's structure due to the bridge vibrating the ground around Cobra too much and also on crowded days, La Ronde doesn't have enough parking spots for new guests trying to enter the park which forces them to park elsewhere. But thankfully they didn't put a parking lot in that spot but instead it became a ride graveyard.

    Yesterday I was working on Vampire and literally every single cycle, I had guests on multiple rows asking me to make their harnesses tighter after we had already completed checking the restraints. There's a reason the MiniRail still exists but is not maintained. It is one of last souvenirs of the original La Ronde and Expo 67 and carries a lot of historic and nostalgic appeal. Six Flags, apparently unwilling to maintain or update it, would be facing even more (justified) criticism if they tore it down. They recently claimed they want more families in their parks, not just thrill seekers. They could start by improving and expanding the MiniRail which, during Expo, dipped and ducked around and behind waterfalls, glided over lakes, and went straight though the US pavilion at a height of around a hundred feet. It was so popular that a system had to be devised to encourage people to get off and try other attractions.

    Vampire's queue is similar to Batman's because La Ronde was officially supposed to be a Six Flags branded park back in 2002. Vampire was going to be Batman the ride and Vertigo was going to be The Joker and a joker statue is even currently inside one of La Ronde's storage buildings because the park was unable to install it in front of Vertigo. This is because Six Flags wasn't able to brand La Ronde as a Six Flags branded park because of the 101 law in Québec which forces every business in Québec to operate strictly in french. And because of this , they weren't able to properly give the Bugs bunny and DC theming to the park but they still managed to be able to sell Bugs bunny and DC merch.

      " the 101 law in Québec which forces every business in Québec to operate strictly in french."
      That's not true. It requires french to be the prominent language and the first language but not the exclusive language. It has NOTHING to do with statues and a name is a name, they can use Six Flags if they wanted to. I remind you that Bugs Bunny and DC cartoons play, to this day in French, on the main TV channels in Montreal.

    • @mailion
      @mailion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It almost could’ve been the case because initially, the SLC was supposed to go to great escape, but they couldn’t install it so it got moved to the closest park. We really could’ve had something better in its spot like a B&M flying coaster or something like that.

    • @plazasta
      @plazasta ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They couldn't wait. The reason they gave us an SLC was due to their contract with Montreal, which gave them 10 years to invest X amount of money into the park. In 2010, they were approaching the deadline, and so they were scrambling to find a ride to help them fill their investment quota, and that’s how we got a recycled SLC
      And yeah I've operated Ednor a few times this season and tons of people get lost trying to find the main entrance, it's frustrating lol
      Also here's a fun tip: if you’re lucky enough, like me, to be tall enough that your head clears the restraints, then riding at the back will give you zero headbanging and Ednor actually becomes really fun (no seriously SLCs have easily the most underrated layout in the entire industry. If it weren't for their roughness and headbanging they would be on par with Batman clones)
      Also fun tidbit (no idea if I'm actually allowed to say this lol), but the reason why Ednor is so rough isn't just because it's relocated, it was also improperly built. My group leader told me the station is literally too short, and so there was a gap befween the station and the track, and instead of modifying the length of track to compensate, they just squeezed everything together, thus making the ride extra shaky

    Great video! I love the location of the park! 😍

  • @TitanLRV
    @TitanLRV ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If you go to La Ronde, definitely start with Titan first because the ride itself literally lasts 5 whole minutes. And it takes about 2-3 minutes for customers to leave and for new ones to board the ride and then for us to check the restraints. So a cycle is about 7-8 minutes. So the lineup moves once every 7-8 minutes which can make the lineup on Titan very long towards the middle of the day. On normal days we get about 40-60 minute lineups. And on busy days about 2-3 hour lineups. But early in the morning, even if the lineup looks a little long, it's probably just about a 5-15 minute long lineup
    Also, you might have felt Monstre a little slow because you went on it early in the day when the train takes about 70 seconds to cycle the ride. During the night it takes about 58 seconds to cycle the ride and towards the end, it feels like the coaster is trying to speed-run itself.

  • @NiGHTSaturn

    10:22 Vampire got installed in 2002 as a brand new Coaster. Ednör (which is Ronde backwards with a fake story of a monster in Lac des Dauphins) had already been in 2 parks before being st La Ronde. We were about to have the Magic Mountain Green Lantern: First Flight here as Vipère in 2020, and i’m so glad it’s still isn’t installed. SixFlags has been basically trying to “rejuvenate” the park with not the best selection thinking the locals won’t know about their fails in other parks. I would have been quite happy to have one of the DéjàVu giant inverted boomerangs back here instead of Ednör as the second inverted.
    Also, the Park was indeed absolutely worth it at the end of the 90’s till 2008. Nintendo was an official sponsor and we had the “Mega Dôme” with game activities and contests, we had an Intamin Stand-Up coaster that was rough in the later years, but a lot of fun in the 2000’s. This one is now SBNO. The Log Flume “La Pitoune” which was an original ride since Expo 67 (when the park was created) was a great one too! Medium thrill selection was also much better.
    As for the language barrier, I still cannot believe some of the comments I read on other videos. The majority of people in Québec know very well that tourists from all over won’t exactly speak french on the first go. It’s as if we were compared to the people who dared to say “go back to your country” in the US or “Speak English” in the TH-cam section. There’s hate on both sides for various reasons, but even with different opinions, I get along very well with my anglophone friends from all over Canada. I feel sad when I hear bad stereotypes towards us like that 😂
    I’m really glad you had fun. This park was an awesome value back in the day. If only the owners gave more love and care to ignite the flame it once burned.
    Also, a tip, Orbite, we don’t pronounce the “e” at the end 😉

I now go as a parent of two kids in his forties. They still have fun, but a bit of investment wouldn’t hurt. It’s still fun for them at least. The reason the parks rides resemble DC so much is actually quite interesting. The park was originally supposed to get a bunch of DC rides for the 2004-2007 seasons. This was part of the very aggressive expansion of Six Flags pre bankruptcy. For some reason though, the DC licensing fell through and the planned rides were renamed. It is interesting to speculate though, on what could have come if the DC licensing worked out

    This is one of many parks out there that many people say is run down but has plenty of potential. While I haven't been here yet, I still have to agree based on everything I've seen in this video.
    There have also been rumors about Six Flags possibly selling off a few of their parks in the future, and while I am not sure those rumors can be fully trusted, I must suggest that if they were to sell one of them, it should be this one. I don't understand the point of them operating this place if they're just going to neglect it all the time, and I am sure they could easily find a new buyer that would be willing to make this park world class.

    Le Monstre was great with the original trains. After Astroworld Houston was closed they moved the trains from Texas Cyclone to La Ronde and put them on Le Monstre. The coaster is still on my top 10 list, but it isn't the same.
    Ednor also came from Astroworld - it was Serial Thriller there, and got moved after Six Flags closed that park.
    I have no doubt that if Astroworld had stayed open, then the original trains would probably still be running on Le Monstre, and the SLC at La Ronde would not be there.

    Great review of my home park! I've been going to La Ronde since the 90's, and the best era was the 2000's before Six Flags started removing many fun flat rides and 2 coasters (in 2016 and 2019). Boomerang isn't so bad if you ride it directly in the last row (for those G's when it goes backwards) and if you know beforehand how to properly hold your head throughout the ride. Vampire is awesome for the G's, and Monstre track 1 is much smoother and more fun than track 2. Those weren't beavers that you saw, they're groundhogs and they live in many areas throughout the park (and on the island in general).

    Ednor was built basically for a very stupid and unecessary reason. Six Flags had promised the city of Montréal back in 2001 that by 2011 they were going to invest a certain ammount of money on the park. By 2009 they were no-where near achieving that ammount. So they just decided to take Serial Thriller from the former Six Flags Astroworld park that had recently closed and they installed it at La Ronde as a last minute decision. And even after doing this, they didn't manage to invest the ammount they promised.

I remember riding my first ever woody after le monstre and I was like wow woodies can actually be smooth and enjoyable. • @ThemeParkAvenue
      @ThemeParkAvenue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do have something against Taylor, but for this particular video I felt it was important to bring up his criticisms. He is probably the first thing people think of when they hear “La Ronde” and his review kind of tarnished the reputation of the park for half a million people. He acted quite objective and arrogant with his criticisms of the people, food, and layout and I understand that was just his experience but he still made the park look bad and acted a bit objective. I feel that he could have been less harsh on the park. For example, in my Great Escape review I made it clear that there were factors that made the day worse than it could have been and apart from the title tag line and maybe my comment about Canobie Coaster, I feel I was not too mean and gave advice on how to have a better time than I did that wasn’t just “don’t go here”. My issue with Taylor was when I first did a YTP of him, asked permission to use his clips, and he threatened to take down my channel before I had started making the video. He also just seems to be a bit rude and arrogant toward others, though that could be related to his immense sub count. He also makes so little good content now so I can’t say “at least his videos compensate for his attitude”, but that’s subjective. Also, I don’t recall dissing Taylor much before this video. If you are referring to the rap battle, that one was honestly meant to be a positive video for them. It may not come off as a tribute, but it had to have disses. What else did I do that dissed Taylor?

    • @hedgehogcoasters7239
      @hedgehogcoasters7239 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ThemeParkAvenue I understand that people lately aren't in love with Taylor and there had been a point where I got a little annoyed with the channel last year. However, keep in mind his review was from 2017, so the parks had time to change. Yes I think he sets the reputation for many rides/parks, often not in the best way. However, people need to know they can be opinionated and feel differently, even checking out certain things for themselves.

    AND IT TAKES A MASSIVE CHUNK OF THE PARK
    also I sat in the very back of the Ednor and it was nowhere near as much of a head smasher as flight deck I've been on the Ednor numerous times and I can confirm flight deck is way worse
    and the staff at La Ronde are often pissy and rude not all of them but a good portion because most of them are 18 and just generally kind of careless for example just one of the things I witnessed at La Ronde was a girl that got sick and fainted in the line right in front of an employee and I literally had to tell the employee to get her water or ice or something because they were just standing there like headless chickens.
    If La Ronde is your local park I'm sure you understand

    I agree with you mostly, but I’m from Ontario, and I just got back from Quebec. I tell ya, a lot of Quebecers hate English speakers, especially Americans, and especially outside of MTL.

      Lol. Granted his was clearly based on the fact that he just had a bad experience. I just want people to know that his opinion is not the only one in regards to La Ronde.

    I would rather punch my TV than go to this La Embarrassment of a Six Flags Park.

      @@ThemeParkAvenue I live in Pennsylvania why would i pay hundreds of dollars JUST to go to this Park? Same thing with Canadas Wonderland. I dont find myself ever going to those parks because A. I don't have family who live there.
      B. It's expensive to go there.
      C. I've seen Carnivals with a better ride lineup.

      @@gianfeliciano9816 I’m not saying you need to go to the park (though a trip to Montreal is always wonderful if you get the chance), but the point of this review was to show that people on the internet who act like you can only have a bad time at the park are not correct. The park can be fun and the ride lineup is underrated in my opinion. I am not invalidating haters, but the park should not have too much shade thrown at it until it has been experienced to some extent.

    Why Ronde! You english speaking white boys pronounce it wrong, La Ronde? It's French, LA Rondé!
