La Ronde Review, Only Canadian Six Flags Park | The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

  • La Ronde is the only Six Flags park in Canada. Located in Montreal, this park is located on an island at the base of the Jacques Cartier Bridge. It's a unique setting for a theme park and while it isn't branded as a Six Flags park, it features a formidable lineup of thrill rides including 8 different roller coasters and some cool flat rides. Many call it the worst Six Flags park, but is that overblown?

This is my home park. It's so miserable seeing all of the rides I adored as a kid being removed with nothing to fill the void. The management also really needs to get their game together. I adore this park with all my heart and it's such a shame to see it mistreated like this.

The Boomerang was meant to operate in an amusement park called Tivoli, in Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain), but contruction was not completed and the park never opened to the public.
Back in the early 80's it was painted in Yellow and spent quite some time standing, but not operating, until it was sold to Le Ronde.
The ferris wheel comes from the same amusement park in Gran Canaria too.
Since I never got a chance to ride any of them, I am extremely happy that both rides found a new owner and are still operating to this day.
I wish I could travel to Canada and ride them, so I could have the chance that I never got when I was a kid.
    Thanks for the video!

Went to La Ronde every weekend during summer vacations while in High School. The initial Six Flags investment did great things for the park but it's clear they lost interest at some point. I expect La Ronde to be one of the first parks they inevitably sell-off now that interest rates have skyrocketed and they have a lot of debt.
I really hope someone good picks it up because what the park truly needs is incredibly innovative approaches to maximizing space, similar to how Phantasialand gets so much out of every square meter.
Just a thought, move the parking lots and staff facilities off island or underground, get the Boring Company to build an underground transport system to get into the park.

I've been to it quite a couple times and just a few days ago aswell.
Going on weekends might honesly not be worth at all, the wait time is disgustingly long.
It took be about 2 hrs to ride goliath due to high amount of ppl and the coaster malfunctioning here and there.
If you wanna chill for a long time i would advise eating beforehand because food is obviously in expensive prices.
Noticed alot of ppl skipping lines which was pretty annoying. Its less on more popular ones because they are more supervised ofcourse.
They have gotten alot better at managing crowds, entering the park is like you said about 20-30 mins.
100% go right on entrance time or you will suffer. i came an hour after opening and wait times were already bad.
I will soon go again on a weekday and very early and i hope it will be a better experience, however it is the summer vacation so it might not matter as much.
Your review is very accurate, the only new thing i saw was the monster coaster had a new beast entrance to make it look cooler?! literally nothing lol.
On the bright side, i dont think i have seen a single ride not working except for the ones that never did across years like monorail, tower, and horror place.
2 rides you can't miss on this place is the Titan and the Goliath for sure. These are actually worth the wait most of the time.
Overall i like this park, my only critical issue is thw wait time.
I hope six flags does something about this park as its lacking for sure.

Thanks for this very fair review of my home park! I believe we need much more investment here (a big coaster) and that would make it quite better. Little question about Gravitor, the flying carpet; it's been shut this entire year and no employee is willing to answer questions about it. One of them told me that all models of it were shut around the world before running off. Is this true to your knowledge? Because it's a really fun flat ride and I hope they're not going to scrap it

I can't stand this park! There always seems to be a different problem every time I visit. Last time I went in 2021 was the most frustrating. I have a six flags season pass (with La Ronde as the home park) and it was on one of the weekends where the free bring a friend tickets were valid. I also confirmed this by calling and emailing guest services prior to coming. Once we got there, we waited in line for 20 minutes to get to the gate, which was expected. Scan my pass and it was fine, scan the bring a friend ticket and the person said it's not valid it's on a different weekend. I then went on the website, confirmed the weekend was in fact the weekend we were there, showed the email from guest services confirming the ticket was valid for the weekend. The person then said it has been changed and it's not valid on this weekend!?!?!?! So, they have a ticket window by where they scan the tickets and I just bit the bullet and went to buy a day ticket. BUT, their machine was not working for payment and they couldn't take cash! THEN, they had no way for us to exit the park to get to the main ticket booths so we just stood there trying to get someone to help us and every employee just ignored us. So we decided to just leave and had to wait for security to not be busy (15 minutes) to walk us out through the exit. It was crazy! And believe it or not, that is not the first time something that dumb has happened there. WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!

I'm not even surprise that they change the dates for the free tickets.
I bought the higher season pass for 2022 in febuary. Then they changed the entire season pass system around april. I was written on the website that all the perks of the previous season pass system would still work for those like me who bought it earlier. Then, when I got to the park during summer, they told me that my pass was only valid for entrance and free parking. No more free and discount tickets, rebates on food and merch, etc. I went back on the website and saw that they erased the part where it was mentionned that I would still be able to use all the bonus I had with my season pass. I'm still mad about that. I think and gonna skip 2023 season of La Ronde.

We got there before the opening and it was still raining on us as we were waiting to get in the park but like magic across the park entrance it was incredibly sunny while it was gray and rainy on our side. We pretty much had the place to ourselves for the most of the afternoon since so many people cancelled their day at la Ronde because it was pouring in the morning. We could get off a popular Coaster and get back on it right away, that was so fun.

    • @Apple2gs

@PRdeSO - There are no plans to replace it, they couldn't even afford to re-assemble the Green Lantern coaster that had been moved from Six Flags Magic Mountain! Installing new elevated tracks and trains would be quite a large financial investment! They're doing some kind of tribute though, I think they're preserving the two stations and one full train (I suspect something like what was done with La Pitoune, for display only).

I went to La Ronde last year. After 24 years without going there. My impression was so bad when I went there last year.
Last I went was in 1998,il was always a fun day,at this time,it was City of Montreal, there was few years earlier the Aqua Parc,a water slides complex annexed to La Ronde. And price for a day in one park was 20$ and both was 27$. All rides and lot of animations, there was also an option to access the park by paying a lower fare, but rides wasn’t included, except for monorail and observation tower, there were also a cable car ride available on site. We were also welcomed to bring our own food and beverages.
Last year when I get back To La Ronde, something was new. The fast pass, witch I doesn’t need cause due to a handicap,I can have a priority access, witch was not possible in 1998. That was the only good new things
After all. Supermanège,the Cobra, the Pitoune,a log coaster and monorail and observation tower wasn’t anymore in operation and no more cable cars. All have been torn out, except for the tower, that we will probably see it disappear soon.
Made a complete tour of all coasters. Le Montre was way much bumpy and the new trains are not confortable, seats are narrower and siting on wasn’t comfy.
Was lucky that day cause no waiting queues anywhere.
Many rides were still closed as the splash. Tried the mouse coaster that was new, find it bumpy, but funny. I ride Goliath,Ednor Vampire and the Chaos ,they were saying that was pretty new and that this ride never existed before. But back in the early 80’s Belmont park haved the exact same kind of ride.
Dragon not worth the wait,it’s only a 30 seconds ride. The longest coaster are the Goliath, witch it take a bit less than 2 minutes for the entire ride.
Also, absolutely no animation on site. Not even any music was playing
Going there, with your own food? Forget about it,not even a water bottle from outside is allowed and there’s no self water fountain functional on site and they do all the necessary to prevent a visitor to be able to refill an empty water bottle. Witch are 5,50$ to buy.
Having a meal will cost over 20$ for sure,as a very small portion of French fries are 8$ and there’s no restaurant around the site, you way need leave your food in the car and come out to eat before foi back in.
Also, the best way to get there is by the subway and if there’s fireworks, you may need come by bike, cause it’s the only way to avoid heavy stand still traffic or overcrowded subway ride. Especially when there’s music events in the place near the subway station, also the parking is very expensive. Season pass allows and option to have parking included and also meals included, but it’s not guaranteed. You may be disappointed if parking is full cause there no reserved section and for the food supposedly included,it’s a minimal portion witch is pretty smaller than a smaller portion that you can buy at restaurants. Example, you want to eats a subway submarine combo, witch normally includes drink,12 inches sandwich and two cookies or chips. Normally it will cost around 20$ at every place you find a subway restaurant, but at La Ronde,it will cost 35$ and the submarine will be 6 inches,12 inches will bring you to 48$.
If you use the seasonal pass with included meal, the submarine will be reduced to 5 inches and you will have a choice on a drink or a chips/cookie,you won’t have the complete combo.
So for a family including 2 children’s and 2 adults, the day at La Ronde will not be possible under 300$ of spending. Need to pay for parking if it’s not included and fare are 27$ for a day.

@@CanobieCoaster no, the single rider line for toboggan nordique is hidden, once you are in front of the entrance of the ride, go to the left then right to go under the sphash's turn, at this point, you should be in front of the stairs leeding to the kid's zone, turn right towards toboggan nordique's station and it should be there. And the single rider line for titan is right next to the stand by line. Both lines are marked as "passager seul", wich mean single rider

The park that looks some what underated but still horrible. This park does honestly seem better than SFSTL. But some of the decisions they made for rides like getting both a B&M Invert and Vekoma SLC. Those place could use some help with their rides.

If at all possible, find a francophone to help you learn the proper pronunciation of the French named rides. Otherwise your video is quite enjoyable and I like your comments.

@@CanobieCoaster - I wouldn't worry about it, it's an insignificant part of the review (one can clearly see the actual rides you're reviewing) and no one is going to nitpick your pronunciation outside of this province. If you were doing the review exclusively in French, then yes, perhaps it would be an issue. Unfortunately language politics have consumed this province over all else, and likely why La Ronde is in the state it's in.

I don't think they will invest much in the near future for this park. Even if they retire more rides, the people are going to come anyway. It's the only park option for the biggest cities in the province (Montréal, Québec, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières and all of the surrounding of theses citites). So that's the only option for more than 5,000,000 people. And for those people willing to drive, the other possible parks are non french speaking. Its not that Quebecers can't speak english but some of them will prefer La Ronde for that reason alone.

La ROW-nde, not La rah-nde. It was AMAZING and turned to shit when Six Flags bought it. The bridge is Jacques-Cartier, like the famous explorer, pronouned CAR-T-YAY not CAR-TEE-ER.

@@jpf1978 Well kinda, like if a guy with a American Southern accent were to go to London his pronunciation would get ridiculed more so then someone with a American west coast accent. For some reason in the Francophobe world most French speakers outside of Quebec feel that way about Québec French.
