    They probably know their market better than me, but I'm always surprised the investment put into the sound quality. People dropping 7K pounds on a projector + screen are the same people who are going to have a dedicated receiver and surround sound speakers right?

      @@macho9556 yes, if you are building a home theater then sure.. I myself have a dedicated one with a Sony laser projector. But short throws are generally marketed and used as a TV replacement. In those use case, especially in the hall or bedroom where you don't have the kind of batcave a dedicated theater room has, an 85 inch OLED may be a better choice. It's all down to use case. Again, if you're using it in a light control room with the space to sit at the appropriate distance then sure...

      @ezerratchaga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ramahsakul6850 if you have the space for a dedicated hometheater nothing beats a 10 feet wide screen and beyond.. and if you have the budget long throw the likes of Sony laser and JVC will give you the best quality. All short throws are using TI DLP chips which are ok in a slightly lighter room but in a perfect batcave, their contrast issues will be very noticeable...
      If on the other hand, you're looking for a general purpose display for your room or hallway where there are always going to be ambient light, the definitely an OLED. There is just no competition in terms of picture quality... especially now that 85 inch OLEDs are sort of in the same price range as these short throws...

      All pixel shifting dlps are working at 60hz. This is not necessarily a problem if there is also decent frame interpolation. I use mine on low and get a completely judder free image.

    • @PrinceBarin77

      As an LG HU85 owner, this is definitely the biggest drawback. Overall I am really pleased with it, and there are a number of benefits over a long throw equivalent but it does leave me knowing that I will need to replace this projector sooner than I would like since the judder is frustratingly noticeable.

      Same. I've been thinking for the next house that I'd want to put my hdmi 2.0 4K screen on the bedroom wall, and use a ultra short throw projector 4K120hz HDR VRR projector in the living room. I like the small form factor, and with a motorized screen you could still have a nice, subtle interior design... but at this rate, I may just have to buy a large 75" due to the tech not being in the markets, or when it is, it's going to be incredibly expensive compared to TVs.

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @Crimson King: We are not paid by Samsung for the "Recommended" award, so your accusation is false and baseless. Ultra short-throw projectors appeal to a segment of the market who wants the biggest screen size possible, watchable in a room with some ambient light, not necessarily placing that much importance on picture quality. What 100-inch to 130-inch TV can you buy for £7000, without the headache of the installation logistics/ space/ etc.?
      We have tested a number of ultra-short throw laser projectors, and on balance, the Samsung LSP9T is the best among the bunch (biggest Rec.2020 coverage, deepest blacks, quietest operation, best sound), and on that basis, there's even an argument to give it our "Best in Class" award, but because of the shortcomings we discovered, we felt that a "Recommended" award is fair.
      We're always honest and transparent in our reviews, constantly seeking to point out the pros and cons of all products we test to help potential buyers make an informed decision. Disagree with our findings (measured using reference-grade equipment & experience across many years) if you want, but do not accuse us of accepting back-handers, thank you.

      Europe should be 60hz or vice versa by now. (Universal format) How much 24fps so you watch. Forget its 10,000 dollars without a multiple 1000 dollar screen! I have a 300 dollar UST and one that 20,000 dollars. (3 total) The 300 dollar one is worth it. The other two "expensive" ones aren't. Unless you have money to blow. It's supposed to be price per inch. For about 12,000 dollars minimum, let's say on this UST.....you can buy SIX 65 inch LG OLED C1s and get a much better image and lag time by far. Buy FOUR 77" LG C1 OLEDs. These were supposed to be 150" or so and way less for the money. Screen is a must. I'll take my 300 dollar UST at 150" but, not my 20,000 dollar UST. I have a reason and the means for it. 99.9999% of consumers (we consume a crapload) shouldn't but this. The point was portability and way less per inch for USTs. This projector and others screw thar up. Again, you need a huge fixed screen on the wall and thousands upon thousands of dollars for that. Even on the best of the best, ambient light will always be a bigger factor. They have gotten better but, for 10,000 plus without screen, it's should be way DAMN better and about 2,000 dollars maximum. That 2,000 is still about 2,500 with a garbage screen.

      @@UhhhhhnooOOo00oO Stupid comment. Clearly, you don't understand Pal vs NTSC. If out, Pal is superior for watching movies over NTSC and NTSC is superior for sports. They both have their flaws and advantages. The point is at this price point tech should support both.

    • @UhhhhhnooOOo00oO
      @UhhhhhnooOOo00oO 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Venomynous I knew you would cherry pick that. Notice, I said vice versa for a universal format. I unfortunately do understand it and you couldn't tell the difference. One damn sentence, as per usual, humans enjoy discussing because they think they "got ya". I get that crap. So, you want me to run my 20,000 dollar UST projector and 7,000 dollar screen in 50HZ. Should I watch 1973 BBC programs or how about Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo in 144P? Stop the Pal NTSC crap. I'm talking about a standardized 60hz or better 50hz for all signals. I usually discuss this garbage with a 149 dollar Walmart TV. On this channel, these are high end TVs and projectors. So stop with thr gotcha BS. I've forgotten more than you know about this garbage. I've consumed and owned them all as a bored wasteful human. No more of this. I'll let you discuss PAL vs NTSC. I guess your little device corrected to "Pal". I'm not your "pal" but, it's PAL. Oh, you must not know about any of this. Sarcasm. I don't cherry pick crap to debate. It is about a 15,000 dollar setup, minumrn with this projector and you are replying to me about PAL vs. NTSC? Although, this technology garbage is meaningless. How many times do I watch 8K or upscale well on my 8K OLED TV? Answer = Once when I tested it for about 40 seconds. All of this is meaningless. Even the most nerdy of you people watch maybe 2% of your content in 4K. Let alone 120hz or anywhere close. I'd say maybe 3% at even 1080P. Say maybe PAL vs. NTSC is the thing to discuss. 99.9999% of all home viewing is at 1080i or 720P and 60hz or 50hz. I'd pay so much more for a TV or projector that upscales better and get rid of 4K, 8K and 120hz BS for marketing. Thr consoles can't even produce 4K@120FPS. (PC another story but WTF do you need at 4K@120FPS? Nothing.) I've done it with simulations and other tome washing crap. 1080P@60fps is more than enough and I have 30,000 dollars worth of sim rigs, wheels, flight sticks and other wasteful stuff. Years of chasing this garbage out if boredom. It's like high end audio, where you can spend 10 million dollars on a system. It is the hobby of chasing the perfect sound or perfect image. If you get there......THEN WHAT? Emptiness. Too much? Rhetorical.
      Maybe you do have a point, but I guess you spend 15,000 dollars on a 4K laser UST projector @ 130 inches to watch broadcast TV. GTFOH

Films run at 24 FPS so a projector that wont display this frame rate would completely kill the main market for this otherwise good projector. It has for me. Is it so hard to convert or make the option available? Is there a projector available in this format? We all know 'cinematic' judder is inherent for 24p film sources... one person is more sensitive than others. Filmmaker mode is the way director intended to. It's also important realize that there is a 'motion' judder at 24p. This can be somewhat reduced in post-production, less lighting or even reducing camera motion (but nearly impossible). For action scenes, the "motion blur" is largely increased by shutter and exposure. Once it's there, hard to remove in post-production. That's why manufactures created Motion Interpolation feature for their TV/PJs.

    Thanks Vincent! Wonderful review. I think people's frustration at the "Recommended" comes from the fact that it it's so generic of a descriptor, that really it's not recommended for most people, (70% of U.S. adults play games on their TV/Projector). It would be recommended for a very specific use-case, with specific exclusions, like all gamers. Maybe you could create some subclassifications or exclusions, though that doesn't have the same snappy "Recommended" label. Imagine the reverse though, where it was terrible for movies, but great input lag for gamers. You could end up with two projectors for vastly different audiences but both with the "Recommended" label. If you try and balance out the pros/cons internally, there is always a chance your internal balances are not reflective of the subpopulations looking at your content. I think you will just have to live with people being disappointed that you "Recommend" something to them that doesn't work for them at all. I bet you're ok with that though, kinda the nature of all reviews. 😀 Reality is a middle ground of informativeness with Pros/Cons or "Recommend for.." Award might be more informative and save people time. It's always a trade-off though, thanks for doing what you do!

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @FlyYouFools: Thanks for your comment, but we disagree about the generic-ness of a "Recommended" award. It's very clear that any award should only be judged within its product class. For example, we awarded the Panasonic HZ2000 & the Sony A90J our "Highly Recommended: Best in Class" award, does that mean that it's recommended for most people? Of course not! Just those who want the best picture quality from a TV, etc.
      We have tested a number of ultra-short throw laser projectors, and on balance, the Samsung LSP9T is the best among the bunch (biggest Rec.2020 coverage, deepest blacks, quietest operation, best sound), and on that basis, there's even an argument to give it our "Best in Class" award, but because of the shortcomings we discovered, we felt that a "Recommended" award was fair.
      We have done our best to mention and demonstrate all the pros and cons of the products we test. There are always commenters who are biased towards/ against a brand disagreeing with our conclusion, but anyone with some common sense should be able to use our review to reach an informed decision.

    • @UpForFailing
      @UpForFailing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hdtvtest Thanks for the thoughtful reply. If you don't think "Recommended" is generic because it's assigned to a class, then maybe it's the classes that are arbitrary. Are 3D projectors a class, or a feature to be weighted within a class? Bulb type, input lag, lumen class, laser vs bulb, distance from screen, etc? It seems the room orientation is your class driver here. More classes would make the "Recommended" more specific, as most retail vendors break their projectors up based on primary usage and distance is just one segmenter. Like you said, most people can figure it out by watching the amazing reviews, just thought it might realign expectations for people. Thanks!

    Hi Vincent- great review and timely from my perspective as I was looking at projectors- My issue is that I don't have dedicated space for a dark room, so the projector would be used in my lounge and subjected to some ambient light- The second issue I have is that my speakers are inwall and can't be relocated to allow for a bigger screen and the room is quite long- Sitting position is 6m away with no option to reduce that distance due to layout and interconnecting spaces. The speakers in wall pretty much eliminate the use of UST projector as there are no Acoustic Transparent screens that are also ambient light reducing. According to Gregory from cinemapassion this projector has 1300:1 on/off contrast in calibrated mode and it goes up to a maximum 1800:1 uncalibrated. That is very good for a projector that cost 1000£. It's still fine for 2000£ but it's utterly trash for a projector that cost 7000£. At this price anythying below 10 000:1 native contrast should not even be taken into consideration.

Sure, all DLP's have rised blacks and rather poor contrast in dark scenes compared to liquid crystal chip based projectors but as i pointed out they offer other things. This samsung it's a very expensive DLP that offers none of those qualities that are specific to good DLP's. If I have to guess , the main reason for lack of sharpness is the mediocre quality of the optical block.
      Sure, the image might be very good if you compre it to a chinese UST that cost 2000£ but we are talking about a projector that cost almost as a brand new Dacia Sandero. For that much money I think it's a bad deal. Probably half of the price is just becouse its Samsung and it has nothing to do with production and distribution costs.

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @George Popescu: That's your point of view as someone who prioritise value for money. Compared with all other Chinese ultra short-throw projectors on the market, the Samsung LSP9T delivers superior black level, brighter and more colourful images, quieter operation, better sound, more comprehensive Smart TV apps availability, not to mention actionable warranty in the country of purchase.
      We're not sure why you're bringing up DLP projectors, because none of the *ultra-short throw* DLP projectors we've tested offer all the advantages you mentioned. It seems that you're mixing up *ultra short-throw* DLP projectors and regular-throw DLP projectors.
      Stop projecting your own budget and requirements on everyone else... just because you think this projector is a bad deal for you doesn't mean it applies to everyone else who's in the market for an ultra-short throw projector. As professional reviewers who have tested more ultra-short throw projectors than we can count on one hand, Gregory & us seem to agree that the Samsung LSP9T is likely the best of the bunch, so we're not sure what credentials you have to dispute our conclusion beyond your bias and deliberate ignorance of market reality.

      colorfull images? sure, they ditched the color wheel solution for a triple laser which is a step in the right direction for high end market but, and it's a big BUT here. Color wheel allows for razor sharp images even with cheap optics. If you spread the colors in 3, like Epson is doing with their LCD's and like Samsung is doing here, you can achive much better color lumminance but the downside is that is much harder to align the pixels properly so you need a very good optical block, with the best glass you can fit , in order to compansate.
      Samsung thought that they can get away by using cheaper, mediocre lenses that are found in most DLP's but they just can't do that wil triple laser. 3LCD have the same problem, they need very good optics to have sharp images.
