This explains why those Vietnamese cars need reliable engine and transmission swaps even if it is Honda or Toyota. For their electric cars, Tesla Technology swaps are a must.
I live part time in VN. I do not recommend any foreigner drive there. You can be an excellent driver in the US but the rules and culture in Vietnam will befuddle you. Taxis are cheap. Airlines are cheap. Your liability as a foreigner with $$$ is huge and any accident could cost you Billions of VND. If you must buy a car, hire your own driver. I live near Da Lat. I plan to buy a truck for practical reasons. My Vietnam relatives will do the driving. I am not Viet Kieu, just an old average white guy with far to much to lose by driving in Vietnam.
That makes sense mate! However many foreigners came to Vietnam and really enjoy their own driving experience despite the horrific way of driving, local people 😊
Im in Vietnam every year and drive all over Vietnam, i have my own motorcykel in Saigon at my wifes cuisin and the traffic is sometimes hard but when you understand how it works its no problem.
As an American who once owned my own motorbike I've driven way over 2000km in VN, mostly in HCMC. It's so much fun! 😊 Had to leave VN for a while so I had to sell the bike but still visit at least once a year when I borrow or rent.
I don't mind riding in places like Hoi An on a motorbike, but in Hanoi or Ho chi Minh City I would rather use a taxi or have a driver. With regards to driving a car I don't recommend it as a foreigner. I wouldn't drive a car anywhere in Asia as the traffic is insane.
Very informative video! Glad you did this video as it help explains the process for getting a license and motorbike/car purchase. Now I just have to wait for you guys to finish processing my passport paperwork through VN embassy.
My husband is Vietnamese and I’m Kenyan American. We’re planning to move to permanently to Vietnam soon and hopefully start our family there. We will definitely need a car once we start having kiddos. All this information is so overwhelming. I’m so nervous about everything we have to do to move successfully.
I was shocked when I went to HCMC and seen all of the motorbikes. Someone told me to just cross the street at a consistent pace and they will avoid you.
200000 Dong to Veitnam license! No never resided for 3 months! Covers A2,B1 cost of trancelation another 200000 Dong so 400000 Dong! I believe this covers any cc on moter bikes and up to 9 seats for car ??? And yes my spouse visa 5 yrs multiple entry 6 months! 😊👍
What about all the “NN” licence plates on foreign owned vehicles? Many of those especially in Phu My Hung and those vehicles are simply owned outright by foreigners.
Yeah he's not correct. Foreigners with TRC can be on the title of the vehicle. The reason I wouldn't do it is because it has an expiration date tied to your residency card.
Thank you 😊 thank you! I got my license just showing my foregn licence being translated to Vietnamese 2 copies 200000dong!but we left 2020 and I've been trying to research best options! I was thinking pay cash! Suzuki van or duel cab ford... I'm happy put my wife name as my multiple entree visa good for 6moths out 30 days!
How about electric bikes? Or electric motorbikes? Do you still need a license for those? I remember about 15 years ago, you only need a license for gas powered vehicle or bikes.
Man I hope you're still making these videos in 10-15 years when I'm ready to go start my expat life after my kids are grown and I can sell my house and move my wife and I there. I'm sure the rules and laws will change some more by then
Do not drive!!! Especially super cars, they will smash into your car with their bike and you’ll be the one paying for the damages. I learned it the hard way😂😂😂
I agree. It makes no sense to get a car or drive except to flex. For 30k USD car, I can Grab for decades. Then parking at night or when you are out and about. You should/need a driver that costs another $800 a month. Now you add in accidents and stolen mirrors and scratches. Finally mental stress driving in the cities. What good reason would one have a car besides flexing or have too much money and don’t wan to donate and help poor people? 😂
Foreign driver licenses, even when accompanied by an international driving permit, are not valid in Vietnam. Even though a driver’s license from an ASEAN country may be recognized in certain circumstances as valid in Vietnam, it is still advised to obtain a local Vietnamese driver’s license if you wish to drive legally in Vietnam.
It’s not a good idea to get dual citizenship if you already a US citizen. In case something happens in Vn, the US will not get involved since you use the Vn passport to enter Vn to get away from getting a visa.
I love riding a motorcycle in Vietnam...i drove a rental bike in saigon for 2 weeks and it was much easier than riding a bike in u.s because you go with the flow of the other bikers....😃🦆
Whats the law on electric 3 wheel vehicles 600 watt 35 klm max per hour for mobility use? Also how do i apply for a prc. passport. I have vietnamese spouse. I have been here 12 months so far on partner visa renew every 6 months.. and i support myself, wife and son. Thanks keep up the great work..
These are actually scooters and to be more precise you can get a real motorbike like the Honda Cb650r or Yamaha MT07 new and from a certified dealership for around 10.000USD or 230mil VND
isnt a dumb idea when u buy a car in vietnam 1. meet the luxury person must go by car 2. picking up item 3. u are on highway the vietnam traffic required u must run over 110km/h thats mean if u ride a motorcycle with 120km/h in highway vietnam you will be scared
I was lucky enough to drive an Audi R8 when it first came out in Vietnam. Didn't have an international drivers licence. Didn't care, was more worried about getting into an accident. 😂

If you have any contacts / friends that advise regarding drivers licenses from ASEAN countries let me say having a Thailand mororbike license an IDP dos NOT add anything either informational or Vietnamese language a it is English already, clear expiration date and has a picture of a motorbike. Thailand issues 2 discreet plastic licenses, one for car and one for motorbike and car license has picture of car. The IDP adds a layer of totally unnecessary time and expense for Thai's thinking of visiting as well as mom Thai's with Thai licenses. Requiring an IDP may backfire and result in Thailand and other ASEAN countries doing the same to hassle/impede Vietnamese tourists.
Incorrect. I have 1 motorbike and 1 car that were registered under my name. The license plate numbers always related to your country, for an example, 59-XXX-NN-001 and 51-NN-XXX-01 where XXX is your country code and NN identify foreigner.
@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting Your videos are great btw - they are saying you are incorrect because you state that foreigners cannot register a vehicle. That statement is incorrect, it just costs a lot more ( 4 tr. ) and involves a special number plate. We cannot register as a Vietnamese person can.
Car is just for showing off your wealth. I drove a car in Việt nam once. I hate it, so hard to find a parking and you have to look out for bikers and people... I rather get a motorbike ... lol

How is the real estate market near Dalat?
Is it better to rent ?
What about further out in the mountains?
That makes sense mate! However many foreigners came to Vietnam and really enjoy their own driving experience despite the horrific way of driving, local people 😊
@DaveEPie considering you can't own a property as a foreigner in Vietnam so renting is definitely better.
Im in Vietnam every year and drive all over Vietnam, i have my own motorcykel in Saigon at my wifes cuisin and the traffic is sometimes hard but when you understand how it works its no problem.
Driven and rode there for years. No problem. Your peripheral vision improves incredibly.
As an American who once owned my own motorbike I've driven way over 2000km in VN, mostly in HCMC. It's so much fun! 😊

Finally we see some outtakes and a smile from Ken! Gotta have some fun with the videos for your viewers brother! 😉🙏🤙
If everything required locals to happen, then VN is not foreign friendly country. Hence, good luck to VN for its further endeavors.

Ken nice video lots of great information. Graphics really help enhance the quality. You are a natural host
Thanks for the compliment and watching our video.
I got a Vietnamese driver's license, it was only € 5,- to acquire, the main issue is that the translation of my Dutch driver's license was € 80,-.
If you’re a foreigner, I avoid it riding or driving if you can. Even with all the proper paperwork, too many corrupt officials that can ruin your day.
You should also know that insurance in Vietnam will only cover the funeral cost, I mean a very cheap one. It does not even cover burial cost.

Thanks for the updates.
I rented a good 100cc bike from Bao the owner of Happy Bikers in district one of saigon for about $8/day..😃🦆
For the international driving license, it actually seems to be the opposite. You have to have an IDP not an IAA.
No. As just mentioned in the video, the IDP is no longer accepted in Vietnam. Thanks for relying on our law firm for Vietnam matters.
Foreign driver licenses, even when accompanied by an international driving permit, are not valid in Vietnam. Thank you. Is Vietnam left or right hand drive ? Thanks
Left.
@duongglobalbusinessconsulting
Vietnam drive on the right.... when drivers look straight ahead.... they are on the right side of the road
I love riding a motorcycle in Vietnam...i drove a rental bike in saigon for 2 weeks and it was much easier than riding a bike in u.s because you go with the flow of the other bikers....😃🦆
Ken, What about importing your vehicle from the country you are coming from into Vietnam? Is that an option? Thanks!
Possible but very difficult.
Question to whoever recorded: is this what the RODE GO Wireless sounds like when clipping?
Whats the law on electric 3 wheel vehicles 600 watt 35 klm max per hour for mobility use? Also how do i apply for a prc. passport. I have vietnamese spouse. I have been here 12 months so far on partner visa renew every 6 months.. and i support myself, wife and son. Thanks keep up the great work..
Import and export for temporary personal use or repair . Could you make video on that. Thanks
Buying a car is a debt only. Use taxis instead.
good to know and thanks.
I like the way you explain the topic, the only problem is you are moving your hands too much and it becomes very distracting to viewers.
These are actually scooters and to be more precise you can get a real motorbike like the Honda Cb650r or Yamaha MT07 new and from a certified dealership for around 10.000USD or 230mil VND
how about vinfast or electric cars?
I have a VN motorbike license back in 2007 without expiration date. Do you think I can still use my license to ride a motorbike?
Should be.
Huh so if you buy a car in Vietnam you pay triple car plus taxes
So you buy one car you give government two cars …what’s a ripoff
What about insurance requirements?
Great guy
In 5 more years there won't be any more land to build roads for cars. Pollution is horrible since there's no smog check annually on autos.
Ken, you forgot, e-scooters..mobile and easy to transport. BRICS partner countries, registered, registrations, Licenses, Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Copyrighted brands and materials, Franchisees, Licensees Holders. *****IMPORTANT******Qui lai Vietnam.
How about insurance coverages? Maybe next show..
isnt a dumb idea when u buy a car in vietnam

2. picking up item
3. u are on highway the vietnam traffic required u must run over 110km/h thats mean if u ride a motorcycle with 120km/h in highway vietnam you will be scared
50cc motorbikes do not require any driving licenses.
Can I convert my IDP license to an IAA license?
I was lucky enough to drive an Audi R8 when it first came out in Vietnam.
Didn't have an international drivers licence.
Didn't care, was more worried about getting into an accident. 😂
I walk everywhere except to and from the airport. SEasia should be more like Holland where bicycles rule.
How do i drive there if i rented a car when i visit? Do i need a driver license?
You could what the video first. All the answers to your questions are in there.
