It definitely is easier to get the hang of and it is strange since most of the would uses and trades in metric but, I think it’s just too late to swap over. The entire infrastructure, manufacturing molds and every bolt in the country would have to change which would cost billions and take decades.
Am I misunderstanding something? Do you think we don't use decimals in the imperial system? Of course we do! Why would he go out and try to find a bunch of metric tools when he's teaching in English and is an American company so why in God's name would you use metric? And in the end the concepts are still the same
THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM IN A TOOL POUCH.... LITERALLY BUILT ANCIENT GREECE, ROME AND EVERY SINGLE HOUSE IN YOUR COUNTRY.... NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED THE 90 DEGREE
@@TrainedintheTrades ok well maybe not much easier but once you make the mark for your birds mouth just flip the square so the 90 angle of the square is on your mark and your plumb line.
A speed square is NOT a carpenters square or a rafters square. Three different tools, three purposes, all for squaring and angles. Like pen, pencil, crayon. All make marks.
A “Speed Square” is a trade marked name of a rafter square, trademarked by Swanson Tool Co. Inc. This is a name that has stuck. A lot like how a Kleenex is a tissue. A carpenters square is a slang word for either a rafter square or a framing square. They are very different tools but, I have worked with people that call them either name. I wanted to mention all three so that if someone is told to go grab (insert name here) then they would have an idea of what they’re looking for.
Sir you are literally talking about what different brands call their speed squares! Some speed squares literally say rafter square. You know Johnston might call it a rafter square, Swanson calls it a speed square, empire could call it something altogether different but in the end they are all the same thing. A framing square is different. Carpenter square speed square rafter square are all just different names 4 speed squares from different companies.
Yeah this video is about the same as just reading it in a book because you're not doing it on rafters or on your actual roof you are just doing it on a board which doesn't teach anybody anything unless you know absolutely nothing about carpentry and have never used a speed square before
Please make this video again but actually show us on a rafter or a Gable or whatever you're trying to actually teach us! If that was enough to show how to use this nobody would need any education but it's not show us in practice not in theory
This video is just the basics of what the tool can do. The idea of my channel is to take what you can learn in your textbook and give you a quick visual representation for people like myself that struggle to learn from a textbook. It is also to pass on lessons that I learn as I try to learn different skills in the trades. In the future I would like to use tools like this in practice and show how to build your own roof but, I am not a licensed carpenter so I’ll have to bring in or learn from someone qualified before I feel comfortable teaching others.
Thanks for sharing your tips, never knew how versatile a speed square was
Happy to help. Worked with some carpenters that can use them like a third hand and it’s awesome to watch. I am not there yet lol
Crazy how the USA hasn’t gone metric, which is the most obvious way to gauge measurements …

Huh. I never knew that it could be used as a Chinese throwing star. The more you know 😄!
I like that last clip
might have to sharpen the old swanson
That's my favorite use for sure
Do you count the money on Imperial system too? I dont think so, much better decimal for not mistakes.
Eventually I will be showing all of these tools in metric as well. I’m not biased to metric or imperial, just most of my tools are imperial.

There is an easier way to make the birds mouth. But I enjoyed the video.
Thank you! What is the other way you know? This is the only way I’ve been taught so far

Rafter square and speed square are literally the same thing dude 😆 carpenter square is the only one that is different.
