    I'm always impressed with the mountain of knowledge you have. And it's very specific info too, like model numbers, pixel density measurements, native frame rates, etc. Heck, I struggle to remember more than six items at the grocery store without jotting it down.
    Well done.
    Also, I love that pic of Jay at 2:05.

    while im not using UHD TVs, i am using Samsung HD TV/Monitors i got from costco a while ago along side some curved monitors. this video helped with my screen matching issues a ton, never knew that all those TV settings had such an adverse effect on the image, and setting them to off or neutral settings really solved my problems!

  • @StrightCaptianMo

    It makes me to happy to see this from someone that knows what they are talking about! I purchased a Sony XBR-49X830C that I've been using as a monitor and I've read negative comments, and disturbing information about how I did the wrong thing and made me second guess everything I spent hours searching about differences and input lags and you really made a smile on my face knowing that despite all the mayhem about how wrong it is, that it's really just as good as I originally thought! I got on the remote and double checked all the settings made some adjustments and I'm once again inspired. I am running a EVGA 970 SC and it actually runs any game I've thrown at it very well at 4K but I am planning on buying a 1080 MSI or Gigabyte water cooled card once they are actually instock and for sale so I can really see what 4k gaming is all about. Thank You Barnacules!

  • @auradrifter7779

    I think something that doesn't get mentioned enough is PWM backlighting. The majority of even 4K tvs still use this which causes eye strain and bad motion clarity. Most modern monitors use DC backlighting which solves these issues and are usually branded as flicker free.

    Again, great video. 100% PERFECT

      PS: i'm personally still hoping SONY will bring their CLEDIS tech back to TV's, the tech was originally demoed opposite a Plasma and was amazing.
      For now, those CANVAS walls are something I want to see in person. That doesn't have the aging issues of OLED.

    32" 1080p IPS HDTV here, really happy with it, except that I'd love to go triple screen, but the model is old and no longer sold, and also has pretty thick bezels, any suggestions?

      +Nathan Chesshir I recently heard that Samsung is working on a new 49" quantum dot monitor with 32:9 aspect ratio and 3840x1080 resolution, from my calculations that would equal having two 27" 1080p monitors side by side with no bezel in the middle, I hope it would be good

    I use a 48" 1080p setup. I have to get really close to the screen to see pixels. I jumped on the TV as a monitor a good while ago. Bigger is better for display panels. I don't miss the 21" limit that VGA CRT's seemed to have back in the day.

    • @Barnacules
      @Barnacules  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only drawback is you can't do high refresh like 120-144hz. I would love it if I could do 1080p at 120hz on a 50" screen. And that's native, no interpolation.

    • @thefirsted
      @thefirsted 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Barnacules Nerdgasm Oh wow! The man himself answers me. I see no drawback. I've never had a display capable of higher than 60 fps, thus have no frame of comparison. I don't have enough cash flow to start testing them either. I already put most of my loose change into geekish gadgets.

      At the distance I sit from my 55 inch I think it might be a little too big. Mostly that it is so wide. The tv flanking me on my right side is ok but back to the corners where they meet is somewhat of a hard spot to see without moving my eyes to look directly at it.

    Awesome. I've been on a 65 inch LG 3D 4K TV as monitor for almost 3 years. Still love it. I finally picked up a new TV 43" 4K LG TV for my old gaming box, to use as productivity machine. You covered all the important parts! Nice job. Wish I had seen it sooner. I'd like to mention that you also need a very good (not most expensive) HDMI 2.0 cable. I bought a few different 15Ft ones, before I found one that worked flawlessly (Amazon Basics HDMI 2.0, was the winner). I wish TV manufacturers gave better specs (input lag).. I mean, it makes sense to, even for them!?

      actually, it's a panel issue. some panels like sony as well can have graphical glitches when showing 60hz 4k. just turning the panel "tv" off then on again fixes the issue in 99.9% of instances.

    I see too much tearing when you turn quickly. see 22:10. that's pretty bad. Love the big screen real estate, but can't handle compromises like that esp when running SLI costs that bloody much. no gsync I take it for these TVs?

    • @tomstech4390
      @tomstech4390 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the tearing would be the same on any 3x4k screens as a function of the video cards output fps.
      we've only had g-sync for the last 2 years so i guess all gaming was shit before that huh?

    • @imfate1
      @imfate1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    9:10 what a bullshit , OLED for a PC today will be a mistake , OLED BURN IN , all your desktop icons will just burn in to the screen , about input lag on time of making this video input lag was about 40-60ms , this is not good at all , by end of 2016 LG did firmware update and 2016 OLED models get about 35-40ms input lag after update. models 2017 LG OLED will have 21ms input lag and this is nice but can be MUCH lower because pixel speed is less than 0.01ms , and hope they will fix this burn in problems.

    I'm not using all screens for gaming but You inspired me when I first watched this video 3 accounts ago...lmao I have a 65" 4k tv for the center and a 32" on either side of it. The main video card runs the center screen for gaming. A second cheapie card of the same series runs the two side screens. I did two cards because when you do this you get more power for gaming and you can still access the side screens during gaming to do whatever ya need.

    • @LETHALF90

      +Barnacules Nerdgasm you could dedicate multiple to physx, not necessarily sli. Would be a waste of $ tho. Are you going to get puget to build you another beast with 1080s?

    • @slashpointo
      @slashpointo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, it's a waste of money. I'm running a main 1080p 144hz monitor and a second 720p 60hz one. And it's running on a HD6970

    • @billyashworth3944
      @billyashworth3944 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Barnacules Nerdgasm NVIDIA only support 2 way SLI. That means they only code there drivers to utilise 2 1080s. If a program, say Firestrike, is coded with it's own algorithms then all 3/4 1080s will be utilised. It's not that it doesn't work, it's that the official 1st party drivers aren't written to support 3/4 way SLI because of the past problems with it.

    • @TheUberdude14

      HDR can be done by the computer itself actually. No need for TVs to have this functionality if you are going to plug-in a PC in there anyways... HDR in TVs is good for TVs that are used for traditional purposes.

    • @DanielRichards644
      @DanielRichards644 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      HDR is 2 sided, you need the computer to output it AND the TV to be able to DISPLAY it, you can WATCH "HDR Content" on a NON-HDR display all day long and sure it will look better then standard content but without the HDR Display you aren't getting the full experience.

    • @killertruth186
