Thanks for the walk to the train station. The escalator up to the TS reminds me of coming down the other side and my suitcase has a problem, I bend over and topple over. No damage except pride. Everyone was helpful, and on we went. Keep them coming.
My wife and I put these on quite often and love them. I especially love the extra footage of walking around the train and switch yard. The information on the tunnels was great too. I wish we had trains as nice as these here where I live. We spent our Friday night watching this trip. I only wish there was a way to link a google map to this video so I could watch it on the map too. As it was, I had my iPad Pro out and open to Google maps, but I Iost it a couple of times. I really appreciate the wonderful scenery! I live in MInnesota, USA and much of the surroundings are very similar. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming.

Wow, you walked so much! It must have taken you an hour or two just to get to the depot. And then your loco is the last one parked literally all the way in the back. I really enjoy the behind the scenes stuff of a trainer driver and prepping a train for its scheduled run. It's my favorite part now because it is so rare we get to see this. A lot of people might see this is boring but it definitely is not to me.

Platform at what was planned to be Elisenberg Station, but those plans were canned as the station would be a bottle neck in the system. A short time after they opened Nationaltheateret station, they closed everything again to build a new platform with two new tracks. it was at that time they decided to not open Elisenberg,

Here the 4 eastbound trains to meet on single track (beginning @ Gulskogen): 53:23 freight (timber) El14 @ Mjøndalen; 1:29:28 Express with El18 @ Tyristrand; 2:10:30 freight with El16 @ Trolldalen; 2:29:25 freight with traxx3 187 401 - 5 @ Bergheim. Intersting trip. Liked the early dry spring with sun.
Could someone please enlighten me. what was the station at 18:00 for and why was it abandoned? also at 34:52 there is a disconnected siding leading into the hillside (seen Dale as well), what were/are they for - or was it something military?
Elisenberg was never opened. And they never finished the connection to the surface. The “disconnected” tracks you’re referring to are the tracks they move the generators on for service. Those caves in the hill side is the power supply :)
Very nice video! I've been to Oslo in march, coming from Trondheim and leaving to the airport. Actually the platform I arrived from Trondheim was the same you departed to Ål. So nice to see it again! It was a very nice trip to Norway! By the way, what is the maximum speed on the Bergen line? According to the Wikipedia, the NSB El 18 locomotives can reach up to 200km/h, but I don't know if there are any parts of the Bergen Line that this speed is possible. Thank you!
The loco will always be limited by the max speed of the cars it’s pulling. The B7 and B5 are limited to 160kmh, whilst the sleepers m, WLAB2, is limited to 150kmh. The max speed on the Bergen line is 160kmh
A side question: at Vikersund, there had been three freight cars on an unconnected track section, by the freight house I think, and which had been graffitied for a long time. (Sigh. Even Norway has taggers.) On today's run, though, these three cars were gone. Did NSB or Bane NOR get a crane to lift the cars out?
Interesting video. This has got to be the most expensive railway on the planet since it seems the engineers elected to build about half of it in tunnels. Above ground, well, just what one would expect --- typical beautiful Norwegian scenery.
It wasn't as if they had a choice, really. Even the flatter bits of Norway are hard work on a push-bike. The line to Narvick is even worse! The reason they made the line through such intractable countryside was Bergen - a port that had access to the North Sea and Atlantic trade routes - being linked with the Capitol city.
I'm well aware of Norway's topography and the necessity of building bridges and tunnels in lieu of excessive grades and/or even longer stretches of track. Sometimes there's no alternative . . . the geology ( a lot of rock) permits some construction savings, but the cost is still high for a country with a relatively sparse population.
What weather conditions do you prefer driving the trains in autumn/winter or spring/summer? personally I like your winter vlogs I’m always impressed by how countries like Norway and indeed the other Scandinavian countries can maintain such a service with all that snow. Of course you’ve probably had a lot of practice over the years here in the U.K. the system falls apart in bad weather. That said I’m looking forward to going on HS2 if it’s ever built 👍
Hi HCG- yet another great video. A question, when you refer to 'technical station'' at various points, some sites have no actual station platforms, or what appear to be disused stations, are these sites what we in the UK would call 'passing loops'?
Excellent HCG! Starting at the hotel shows what it is to be a driver. Long walk though! One question: What is the difference between blinking green and steady green?
Blinking green is a Distance signal. It gives you the aspect of the connected main signal. blinking Green = 2 greens in the Main signal blinking yellow = Main signal is in aspect STOP Blinking green and yellow = Main signal shows 1 green = Proceed with reduced speed.
I have been watching and enjoying for several months. Why no narration or radio chatter? As I watched just now a train passed going the other way. Where is it from, what type of train is it? You have a gorgeous country, I would love to learn more about it as you travel across it.

They were removed, don't know where they took them, but I suspect they're at the transportation museum at Hønefoss :)

Technical stations are just sidings where trains can meet, nothing more. So a station without platforms for passengers.

Depots seem to be much the same here - not always easy to get to, and surrounded by construction sites. Great trip!, and something I've been wanting!
Are those 700's new stock, or just not used on your routes?
The Class 70? It used to run Skien - Lillehammer before the FLIRT Class 74 was introduced. Now they’re just used in extra trains during rush hour.
