Sweden really needs to up the speed to 250km/h, only 200km/h is so embarassing in 2023. 250km/h is the required speed to compete with airlines, and planes are stupid on this route, especially if speed is upgraded and double track is installed, cause then the travel time could go down to 3 hours for a direct, non stopping train, which is what you need to compete with planes and cars.
@@ncard00 You should try the Northern Rail services in the UK if you think that this is embarrassing. You'd be lucky to see 100km/h on those lines. And they are noisy and unstable too.

A bit disappointed that the Swedish rail network did maintenance work this summer so that during peak tourism season Kristinehamn - Oslo had to be replaced by bus. That's why it's nice to be able to experience that last part with train form this video.

We do not have any Trains like this in the USA. Ours are electric motor driven, but in the same sense as ,,, From the Hydro electric dam, to the house. A train here uses a huge diesel engine to turn a huge electric generator which in turn powers the electric motor to drive the train. I say this for a number of reasons, one is you all have a major electric cable system which is remarkable in itself. Another reason I make the comparison in the reliability of both. It would seem there could be many reasons the train here in Europe could lose power, and then again the Locomotives of the USA are much more complicated and they certainly do break down, but can be replaced very quickly. Two continents doing 2 very different systems, maybe the distant separation caused different thinking, or consulting. It is all very interesting.
Mostly it has to do with distances. Electric lines exist in the US, particularly along the East Coast where population density creates a need for rapid, frequent passenger service along relatively short routes. In the past a couple of the railroads (Great Northern and Milwaukee Road) used overhead catenary in their crossings of major mountain ranges where the tunnels caused problems with steam locomotive exhaust and crew health. But the diesel-electric locomotive has until now replaced steam engines and can be designed to operate through tunnels reasonably well. The major drawback to thousands of miles of catenary is the expense of construction and maintenance; US freight railroads are private property and the stockholders want their profits. Even now train lengths are enormous and crews are cut to two persons; the major railroads hope to completely automate (eliminate operating employees, drivers (engineers) and conductors) and for these savings they will rely on telemetry and computers. The disaster in Ohio is a harbinger of things to come.
Amazing journey via the rails. The scenery is absolutely stunning, This video could really use an update though; the compression of the video is rather heavy and the low-light performance of the camera is not very good.
As written in the description this is a combined video but it is indeed a direct connection. We change driver i Karlstad so it's hard to film it all in one take.

Great video! Would like to check do we need to clear the immigration/ custom control in Stockholm train station before depart to Oslo Norway? Is there any VAT refund kiosks/ custom office (to obtain custom stamps for VAT refunds) in the Stockholm train station before leaving to Norway? Appreciate if you could share some information on this. Thanks.
Thank you! 😃 Very good question to which I don’t have an answer. The customs are handled on the train between the border cities so no office, the VAT-return I have no idea. Hello, I think your cab rides are really great. I have a question because I don't know where else to ask it. May I react to one or the other ride and publish it on my TH-cam channel? Many Thanks.
The top speed seem to me as high as 200 km/h, but it couldn’t be paussible, because of distance between Stockholm and Katrineholm. It’s about 120-140 km on track and required cca. 58 min. Thus I suppose, the top speed was 160 km/h. Am I right?
New subscriber here. First of all, thanks for the high-quality channel, everything works exactly as it should. However, a speedometer on the screen would be a nice thing. I have a couple of funny questions lol - 1. what's your favorite route to drive as a train driver? 2. What is Sweden"s northernmost railway connection and have you ever been a driver on this route? Ok, that's all. Maybe not so typical questions, don't you think? 😂 All the best to you! Te mando un abrazo 💜 Saludos desde Las Palmas (originally Venezuela & Finland). Hasta luego!
Автор "Swedish Railcam" уже отвечал на этот вопрос на английском языке. Он заявил, что это комбинированное видео, потому что машинисты регулярно меняются в Карлстаде. Было бы трудно снять весь маршрут за один дубль.
Could you please show the texts a little longer so that we have time to read them? Please give us also a better look of the train 'we' are on and tell us about the length and if it is cargo or passenger transport. Thank you!
Look at the people waiting at the station at the first of the video! My God!! They are not driving their vehicles because they have a wondrous public transportation system. The USA could have such a system except our country is larger than most in Europe and connecting all of us by rail would be very expensive. The answer is regional projects such as California, Texas, Florida, and the Eastern United States. However, Americans want their cars. No easy answer.
It has nothing to do with people to land mass ratio. In such a measurement, the USA comes out much better than Sweden. The reason why railway is possible in Sweden despite having far too few people is the willingness to use legalized theft to pay for it. There's no such will in the USA. Besides, Americans are individuals while Swedes are sheep. Sheep are fitting much better inside trains than individuals. The route between Stockholm and Oslo has never made a profit. 2/3 of tickets are paid for by legalized theft. For Americans, there's nothing to be learned from this video. Well, other than what not to do. The anti-wisdom could be to privatize your road network. Divide it into four companies where each one has an alternative between destinations.
