Shinedown has been my favorite band since shortly after 45 was released in 2003. I was working at Spencer's Gifts and heard it coming on over the store's XM Radio. I have seen them 4 times and every time is amazing. To this day, they are still my favorite band, and I am in the process of writing a book/screenplay where they play a big part, and if screenplay, hopefully an appearance...
I'm so glad you have discovered them, and I totally understand your love for live performances, but I really hope you have been able to listen to the studio versions of all of these songs. The live performances, while live and raw, a lot of times don't get the same energy of the studio versions. The vocals are held back, and the overall "flow" of the song is different.
Enough of that... I hope you continue your Shinedown rabbit hole. Most any song that you pick from them is going to be amazing. But like a lot of people have suggested, The Crow and The Butterfly is a definite must!

My ex husband and my wedding song was Follow You Down by Shinedown... Another incredible song by them. We went to see Shinedown shortly before our divorce. I was SO very in love with him, and like the song says- I would have followed him anywhere. He left me on our FIRST wedding anniversary because I had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and his words to me that day were "I didn't sign up to take care of a sick wife. You're too much trouble. I'm out." And he packed his things and left. I connected SO much with this song, Call Me, because I loved him so much. And even though I loved him so much and I think he was a jerk for doing what he did, I also recognized that staying with me would have hurt him, as shitty as it may be to be hurt by something like your wife being diagnosed with an illness that they didn't ask for.

This is one of my favorite videos you've put out. Not only do I love Brent Smith's voice (he and Corey Taylor are my favorite modern rock singers), but I love watching people "geek out" on things they are passionate about. Loved it.
I pray you've listened to his rendition of "Unchained Melody" as well. He does a phenomenal job... As you might expect at this point.

This entire album is amazing, and maybe it's just because I've heard the studio version so much, but I honestly think the original would blow you away even more than this performance did. His vocals are just searing on it.

I have a very unique personal connection with Shinedown in their very early days..
Those songs will always be a time stamp for me to a time I wouldn’t take back but I certainly could have choose a easier path in life lol!! Some of us learn the hard way though…

I saw them live in 2016 with Halestorm and it was fantastic. The vibe in the crowd at a Shinedown concert is unique, and brent is so good at keeping the crowd engaged.
Also, this man went the entire concert, in a suit, in early August in south Alabama with 90%+ humidity and was still amazing. At one point, he slung ropes of sweat off of his arms onto the stage and laughed about it.

I can watch you listen to anything and get emotional. Just watching your expressions, your reactions, your passion and your love for everything you hear is amazing. Watching you react to things you most obviously LOVE is such a fabulous experience it brings tears to my eyes watching someone with such love listening and appreciating things in a way I could never hope to.

I remember the first time I heard Shinedown. It was in a music video on VH1 I think on Satellite TV. It was called Second Chance and I knew right then and there I loved his voice. So many great songs and performances since then. The music videos are pretty good with the story of the song. Enemies is a fun one to watch.

This song reaches directly into my heart...and rips it out still beating.
This performance is stunning in it's showcase of the song and Brent's emotional investment in this song.
The first time I heard it, my heart and mind went back to that day, so vividly, that I was nearly sobbing by the last note.
    It brings tears every time.
    And it's a beautiful song.

SHINEDOWN takes care of their audience and their audience takes care of them. They are grateful and thankful for their audience. Something you don’t see with younger artists. They operate with the perception that the audience should be thankful and grateful that they are performing. Which is why the people that know these guys love these guys. They give everything on every stage and every show

When my husband and I started dating I barely knew who Shinedown was. I knew the song second chance and that was about it. This song was playing when I walked past his office and I stopped and asked him who this was and that was it. I have been a die hard fan ever since! His voice is butter. Daylight is my new favorite song off their new record.

  • @csolgat
    @csolgat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I would love to see you do the original release version, along with the live version.
For a band like Shinedown, they love to add little twists and add stylistic changes to the song when they play live. For example, when you did "45", you heard a completely different tone through many parts of the song. The original release of "45" was much more powerful. He did a lot more belting (I hope I'm using the correct term) in the original. When in this video, he's toning down several parts, where in the original version he's usually building up and adding power to his voice.
I would love to hear analysis on the original first, then the live version and then hear you explain the reasons artists might make those stylistic changes when, for example, they're doing a 50 show Tour.
