Don’t do this with cheap mini blinds in your apartment, the string is stronger than the slats and will just rip through the holes 😅

Has happened to me exactly the way you described
Can you let me know how do I fix it, one side (right) of the string has come off from the bottom hole, I tied a knot with the string at the bottom but it doesn’t stay and the string ends up going up through the hole and the slides are loose afterwards
