I'm not sure if he talked trash about the ricks, but he did say he hated the shorter scale because he would run out of fretboard. He had Rickenbacker make 2 custom ones with 24 frets, and he has been playing those this year.

oh he did. there's something about over on talkbass. he talked about how he had bad experiences w them on the road and how they didn't hold up to what he was wanting. i think the reality is that he was using old ass 4001 models and didn't understand how to properly adjust the old style hairpin truss rods while using heavier gauges than they were designed for. a poorly set up 4001 will make anyone angry. clearly he realized how to do it, or just used newer models which are a little closer to other basses as far as setup. i dunno maybe i'm all wrong. its the internet

Don't blame him, many people has problems with the bridge of the Ricks but i guess his custom has a better bridge and the specs he needs in a bass

@@iwillnevergetone5 Basically he moved on from his 4001 to the Ampeg because he prefered the combination of a shorter neck scale and a 24 fret board.
The ric he's playing in this video is one 3 three custom jobs he had made to his specs. Namely the shorter scale length and the 24 fret board. Though they also feature a different pickup configuration
