  • Welcome to the Pier City Cycles Tutorial Series. In these videos, we hope to show you a range of jobs or mods that you can carry out on your BMW R9T or R18. We hope to cover those simple jobs which new owners might not feel confident in asking, all the way through to the signature mods we use to transform our builds.
    In this tutorial, we'll show you how to remove and then reinstall the exhaust headers, sometimes called the downpipes or manifold, on the BMW R9T. This is a task that only requires a small amount of tools and only an hour or so of your time in the garage to carry out. In this tutorial, we're fitting our preferred BMW R nine T aftermarket headers made by Unit Garage. The basics will be the same for all other aftermarket brands but please do check their fitting instructions for any other specifics steps that may be required. You may find it useful to also watch our tutorials on how to remove the silencer and exhaust flap on the R9T first;

    Very helpful, I was doing an Akrapovic install, used your video (primary) and their paper instructions. Great Job on the Lambda sensor details and connector locations.

    Do you need to tune for change the R9T header?

    I wonder can this be done on the R1200RT oil cooled as it's the same engine?

    Is mounting a Rapid Bike EVO possible after this mod ?

    Great instructional video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I'm very happy with my cosmetic purchases from you guys, and after this video I'm sure new headers will be next! My stock '22 R9T is quite anemic sounding compared to a '20 Scrambler I rode, I've heard the headers help.... but how do I get some nice "pops" on decel as well?

      To be honest, most aftermarket headers and/or end cans tend to give you more pops that the standard bike.

    Very helpful video! Would you need an ecu remap (rapid bike evo) if you only change the headers but not the air box? I'm afraid you may have to, since you lose the catalytic converter and the flapper valve.

      My dealer told me no. Installed system this morning and has been running fine and no codes showing yet. They did recommend a servo buddy to plug into the servo connector. Fools the computer and avoids nuisance codes.

    Hello, love the video. I have a question about the power output. Do you know how much more you get when you just change the headers?

    • @PierCityCustom
      @PierCityCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Negligible, some brands quote 2hp to 5hp but we've never tested to confirm.

    If you change the headers, and valve flap delete would you need a new ECU or rapid bike fueling module?

      No need to add fuelling unless you doing pod filters as well.

    great video guys, i didnt know that the Euro5 model had a 3rd lambda sensor. now that brings me to a question, if i see it right the unit garage headers have no cat, shouldnt the after cat lambda sensor throw some errors now that the cat is gone?

      It's a good question but we've fitted a number of these now and we've never had any issues or any feedback to suggest this is the case, thankfully!

    can you upload a sound check of this Bike?

      Not this one specifically now, but we do have a couple of very similar bikes in our TH-cam playlist with the UG headers fitted.

    hey guys, if I fit one of these will the bike pass it's annual MOT?

    • @PierCityCustom
      @PierCityCustom  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To our knowledge, there are no regulations in place regarding emissions for MOT testing in the UK.
      However, fitting the headers would impact the bikes noise level, ie. making the bike louder and therefore it would be down to the individual MOT tester as to whether it passes or not.

    Pipes much too exspensive in the real world.Remus,Akrapovich better value.

    • @PierCityCustom
      @PierCityCustom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian. Thanks for your comment. The Unit Garage headers are cheaper than the Akrapovic version and the Remus headers are NLA now.
