  • Welcome to the Pier City Cycles Tutorial Series. In these videos, we hope to show you a range of jobs or mods that you can carry out on your BMW R9T or R18. We hope to cover those simple jobs which new owners might not feel confident in asking, all the way through to the signature mods we use to transform our builds.
    In this tutorial, we'll show you how to remove the air box of your 2014-20 R9T. This is a major modification that many BMW R nine T owners want to carry out so we've attempted to cover the process in as many steps as we can in order to make it clear and concise. We've also added some Torque setting information in the links below to help you put it all back together.
    This is very much a 'How To' style video, for those who want to know more about the 'What/Where/Why' of this modification, please check our FAQ video (link below). Recording this video took full days in the workshop and we were toast by the end so if we don't cover off your question in either of these two videos then please leave a comment below or email us and we'll do our best to help.

    First thought was what crazy person would hacksaw the air box out…after seeing this I reckon I’m such a person.
    Insane amount of work requires otherwise. Think I’d just buy a mew air box if I ever wanted to revert 😂

    I never expected this mod to be so involved. Almost need to take half the bike apart just for a little box. Definitely beyond my capabilities or what I'm comfortable attempting.

      I cut mine out, that did push my comfort level right out. If you do cut it, wrap the frame in plastic and duck tape, also cover and protect the throttle bodies. And take your time.

    I am in the process of this. I will cut the air filter tomorrow because I dont care going back nor will dismantle the bike for this. Then install the rapid bike evo, received the kit yesterday. I would like more details on the crank filter position and the tube extension explanation. Maybe a picture I can see?

    Really great "poison bug" for DIYers. May I ask if i can cover the e;xposed temp sensor at the distribution box with a tiny box that has opening facing downwards. This is to prevent any offensive splashing of water when washing the bike or raining. our country always rain. Any advise?

    • @PierCityCustom
      @PierCityCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, could do, so long as air is able to pass through it in some way. May expose the sides, too?

  • @jonasdecastro7610

    Is it possible/does it make sense to add the pod filters without doing the entire air box removal? I have seen airbox covers advertised on your website and others. My thought is that the old airbox would serve no purpose, but also not do any harm to remain in place and could be neatly covered up with one of the variety of covers offered. I am wondering for the folks like myself that are more apprehensive to take on this entire project at home if this is a suitable alternative? I would still plan on adding the rapid bike evo to get the throttle balancing correct.

    Does the pod mod ,, exhaust system and fuel mod give you much more power than standard and do you get a rain sock for the pod filter ,, for looks s ,,alone it's a lot of work,, pretty informative,, cutting out for me 😁😁☘️😃😃☘️ from northern Ireland

    • @PierCityCustom

    Does the Rapid bike EVO fuel unit work so I can proceed with removing the air box in a 2022 model? Do you recommend chopping it up in pieces instead of dismantling pretty much the whole bike? I always feel like things don't go back perfectly together, especially when you're all up and done till you find a screw lying around :)

    • @PierCityCustom
      @PierCityCustom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are no Rapid Bike products available for the 2021-22 models yet, unfortunately. We cannot recommend this mod for this model of bike until we have access to a fueling module.

      I have to say this bike is a pig to work on.
      I needed to simply change a battery and had disassemble a ton of stuff to even get at it. Air filter looks difficult to get at and this process to remove the air box is completely bonkers.
      Now… don’t get me wrong, make a pot of tea, put the heavy metal on I can do this as you say over a weekend, but honestly it is the WAY this bike has been engineered with no thought to simple maintenance tasks is sickening.
