Hello, could you please tell me the part number of the lock actuator you used? I have an evoque that does not unlock the doors and I must enter with my emergency key. Greetings!
Just completed this job and I doubt if I would have even tried it without this video and watching a few others as well on TH-cam. Thank you so much for your expert explanations. It seems that there are some very similar actuator part numbers and even a site where I typed in the car reg sold me the wrong part. I only found out when I came to change it. I then only got the right part by quoting the part number off the sticker on the old one, and even then, some sites cross referenced it to the same wrong part as I was shopping around. Also, I came across a work around on another posters video for the nightmare handle cable removal - i.e. remove the door handle and then following this video, you can 'relatively' easily remove the entire actuator mechanism. Thanks again.
Thank you - saved us from a big problem. Just a side note, on European models, the problem appears to be on the same door (passenger door which is the driver's door on British models).
Brilliant couldn't have done it without watching your step-by-step. And took my age's refitting the door handle cable nightmare. Thanks again now on to fixing my heater blower.
Totally brilliant vid, thank you! Used it today to sort this exact problem on our 2012 Evoque 5dr. Only one small difference was there was a vertical brace bar inside the door that I had to undo in order to get the old one out and the new one in, probably just a difference in the door structure between the 3dr and 5dr. 2 bolts to loosen and refit after actuator was is. Otherwise all sorted! :-)
Really helpful. Your explanation saved me a fair amount of cash and helped save our holiday as we could not get the passenger front door to lock. Well done and many thanks
Thank the lord for TH-cam and your informative video.... this problem has just started on my 2018 Evoque... you would have thought they would have fixed this issue by now.... so it appears Land Rover replacements are still not reliable
The cheap aftermarket are worse! 🤣 There are quite a few that are genuine only replacements so sometimes you dont have a choice. Yeah they are rubbish across the full range of jlr vehicles but while ever they are breaking they are still making money off the consumer..... begs the question if they are made like this on purpose?
@@lifes.projects I have had my moneys worth out of them, bought one a brand new one a few years ago and used it for launching my jet ski.... had 2 full sets of brakes all round and drive shafts etc.... traded it in before the warranty ran out.... they said they have never seen corrosion like it.... insaid you advertise them for off land use and I live on a farm too 🤣
I have just finished fixing mine and thought I would add some more tips. On my Evoque year 2017 there are 3 cables coming into the door mechanism. There are 2 coming from the external door handle, one is as described in this video the other external handle cable is a lot shorter. Therefore you can’t pull the mechanism out to remove the clips. The best way is to remove a plastic cover, which I presume protects the lock from moisture, the screw is on the surface facing you there is also bit of tape holding it as well this also has to be removed. Once the cover is removed you can see 2 yellow clips, these have tangs to keep them in place. I used a thin screwdriver to gently manoeuvre the clips off. These two are a right pain to fix into the new lock, but with patience it can be done. The other difference I found was the electrical connectors for the sensors, they were small black connectors which I couldn’t get apart so I removed the lower one from the door card to allow me to rest the card against the car. Hope this helps.

Wish I had found this earlier. Last winter LR garage replaced all 5 locking mechanisms in the car! First whole day of below freezing temperatures here today again and 1 door has just gone again. 😭 At least this time I won't let them replace them all and just the one that's affected!

I also have dead driver side memory seat buttons, window switches, lock unlock, and mirrors dont fold. But sometimes when sitting in the csr i open the door and close it again everything is fine.. do you think can be the lock actuator it wires?
Great video , but you must have edited out hours , the section removing the handle cable from the lock and reattaching again after. Make life easy and remove the black plug and use a long torx loosen the only screw down there and the outside handle comes off, unclip the cable then remove actuater pack from the car easily swap cables outside the car and refit in reverse. Also if you take off the cover, unless something has actually snapped(rare) it is usually one of the motors failed , they only plug in to the pcb inside and you can get replacements. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem with my 2013 RR Evoque's passenger door, it's annoying. Everytime I have to ensure that my car is really locked by locking manually before I leave... otherwise my car will remain unlocked overnight or the whole day. This cars are very expensive and it's disappointing to have common door flaws such as this one on all RR models.
Evoque ED4 from 2013. Both rear door central locking and windows stopped working after flat car battery and jump start. The fix was to re-seat both fuses 39 and 44 for rear door modules :)
Just had same problem with my RR evoque (2013 model) drivers door lock! My mechanic got a new lock, €340 later everything back to normal, however I used to have it on a setting that when I unlocked car only the drivers door would unlock, on second press all doors would unlock, however now one press all doors unlock, how do I change it that only drivers door unlocks first?? Just changed the front driver door actuator on my evoque 2017 5 door diesel with no keyless entry. Your video was great and everything went exactly as you say. However, when I lock with fob, mirrors retract and sounds like all doors locked but drivers door is still open and if I open then alarms goes off. If I sit in car it the small lock/open latch above the door handle doesn't move when the doors are opened/locked with fob. Always stays in lock position. As far as I can see, I followed your video exactly so any ideas would be much appreciated? Thanks.
Thanks for getting back to me. I took the panel off and reset the cable to the door hand/lock on the panel and all seems to be working fine now. Thanks again for the video.@@lifes.projects

Hi Mate, I'm just wondering is touching the sensor on the handle twice the right way to lock the car? When I only touch the sensor once, the mirror won't fold in automatically. And the double beep sound will appear when I try to open the door. Thank you!
You touch it twice to dead lock the car. (Just once to normal lock). The 2 beeps are saying there is a fault with the locking system so you need to find out which door isnt locking or isnt unlocking

Great video! I’m looking through official Land Rover website and unable to find this exact part maybe you could help me with the correct title for it? Thank you in advance
Hi mate do you suggest we take the outside handle off so that all the cables can be done outside on the bench? Then fit the actuator with the handle cables attached? Thank you
Great video...mine developed the same issue today, except its the rear door. Did you say aftermarket locks are better than the original ..? I ask because here in Ireland there are over €200
Its depends on spec. Ive recently done 3 rear door actuators on different spec Evoques and only 1 was an aftermarket lock. The other 2 locks were dealer part only.
How do I get my keyless entry to work? Nothing happens when I touch the door handle. My remote unlocks and locks the car fine though just by pressing the buttons.
Hi i have the same problem people are saying its harder replacing the one with keyless entry, I'm guessing the one you just done is keyless entry, how easy would you was it was to do
Its depends. The 3 doors are more difficult. Never really noticed much difference regarding keyless entry but saying that its been a while since ive seen one without keyless entry 🤣.
I had the same problem on my range rover sport, car not locking. my repair was to take out the small motor in the actuator and buy on E-bay at a fraction of the coat of a new actuator.
Get in through another door and try opening from the inside if you cant get the door open then you need to remove the door card and smash the lock. Total pain when that happens
I've got the same problem on my Freelander 2. Drivers side intermittent. Good tip about opening the windows using the key bythway, I've been climbing over my passenger side to open my door for last 6 months lol. I knew u could use the key to shut the windows but didn't realise u could open them like this too!! (Ya live an learn 🤦). Looking to attempt repair myself so this vid helps alot thanks.. any tips for a novice? I don't think the Freelander has as much space once you take door card off, the hole looks half the size as the Evoque so I'm worried about having enough room too to reattach wires and clips?! I can't really afford to pay garage prices at the minute so have been doing minor repairs myself. It seems another common fault on the freelanders are leaking high break lights which I managed to do myself last week 👊 so my confidence is growing ever so slightly ! And hopefully my bank balance will follow (that's if I don't fudge it up trying that is)
Glad you enjoyed it. Oh yes deffo live and learn 🤣. There not a bad job on the freelanders as the doors are wider (thicker) only advice i can say if youve never done one take pictures so you can remember the route of the wires ect and just take your time. Sometimes its easier to take the outside handle off to disconnect the cable ather than trying to remove it from the lock. Other than that just put the window up before you remove the door card so you can get your hand in. Good luck!
@@lifes.projects so I've watched a few more videos from other TH-cam channels changing the actuator in the Freelander 2 and they making it look rather difficult, guys in actual garages having difficulty getting to it, some taking the window completely out, some snapping clips off wires and having to bodge it, one guy even questions what the wires do!!🤦 (my confidence depleting). Another guy reckons just squirt some wd40 in where the inside door handle lock paddle is? Is this worth trying or do u reckon it's pointless? Tbh I thought I had an electrical fault with the wing mirrors not folding in before and wd40 did rectify this so there may just be a chance? 🤷 Failing that how much do u reckon a garage would charge? Just wanna gage roughly what I'm gambling on here 🤦🤣
@@normanfastlane8942 WD40 usually is pointless but worth trying for nothing. The problem with the clips is when its cold they are brittle and snap easy. Everyone has different way of doing things. Your wing mirrors is usually a sign of the latch failing like in my video. This latch was intermittent for a few month before it started getting worse. Honestly couldnt tell you but they usually charge 2 hours labour
@@lifes.projects just to let everyone know, my wishful thinking failed and WD40 did not fix this fault. Defo needs a new part. 🤦😭. Thanks again for your help 😁
Sorry guys, i have another question about the kvm in the boot and whats around it, any time i lock/unlock the doors after a few seconds there is a double click sound coming from the kvm, rear fuse box area and im wondering does anyone else have this or know what its about?
@@lifes.projects cheers thats another worry off my mind, i wish you were the machnaic my car dealer used i would have peace of mind, currently i dont haha
Oh yes and its only getting worse! Most of the stuff you need diagnostics but some stuff can still be figured out with common sense. It amazes me how much stuff doesn't work when a fault on something totally different fails! Modern motors are just a pain 🤣
No joke this video just told me that, that beep means there is something wrong and not that all is fine, Hahahaha amazing Thanks great video, any chance you could do one on why my eco isnt working that would amazing :)
Thank you. The Eco been the start stop system? If that's the case its usually the battery that is failing and doesn't have the power to keep all the systems running while the engine turns off.
@@lifes.projects cheers yea its a new batt 80 amp hour i think but when you register it as a new batt it works for a bit then gives a fault. But when i scan the car theres no fault code hahaha its a mystery
@@keithmountaine1 if you get the reference number off the battery you can ring a motorparts shop and they can cross reference the numbers to see if its the right one for your car.
Slightly different problem on a Discovery Sport, but rear driver's side door won't open. It won't open from inside or outside. I had the same with the front drivers door last year. It cost almost £500 to get that fixed at a land rover dealer. They say it required a new latch. Anyone have any ideas? Can I sort it myself? How do I get the door open? Help!!
Vw/Audis suffer with this. The latch packs in completely but are usually deadlocked so you can't open from the inside either. Only thing you could do was remove the door card to gain access and try and get the latch to unlock. If not the only thing left to do was destroy the latch from the inside and manually open the door.
@@lifes.projects hi, thanks for that🙁. Assume the door card can be removed from inside? I'm thinking destroy the door from outside, get it open and fit a salvage door (same colour)....probably cheaper than going to a dealer. Modern cars?? !!
@@lesbrown5829 Its difficult to remove the door card from the inside but worth doing just incase you can see the problem. Quite possible it could be something simple
Brilliant video I was wondering if you know if mine Range Rover evoque pure 2013 would have folding mirrors had all locks done last week by Land Rover tryed holding mirror buttons down but nothing is ther a fuse for the mirrors thank you
Thank you. The Pure techs can be a funny one as they are usually a basic spec with individual upgrades applied by the customer when it was ordered new so it really depends on that. The Prestige and Dynamics usually come with folding mirrors but not always keyless entry etc.
Thank you for getting back to me thank god the doors are locking now so I can deal with the mirrors not going in maybe they don’t go in so I’ll stick with that
It will be the lock thats completely given up. See it regular on VW/ Audi cars. The door car has to be taken off and door lock removed from the inside. Horrible job!

No way! They will never learn!!
many thanks on your advise how do do and save from LR dealership been told £180 for checks then cost all the work about over £400!!!! beware there is on unit 14pins for keyless and 10 pins older model
I got the lock from Bearmach with next day delivery. Comes with a warranty too. JLR will run diagnostic check if you are lucky and then do what i did but charge you. Everything is in the door lock so as long as you have power there it will always be a full unit to replace.
Great video! I’m looking through official Land Rover website and unable to find this exact part maybe you could help me with the correct title for it? Thank you in advance
Thank you. Its called a door lock actuator. Look under "door lock, central locking"
having the same issue even after replacing the lock any idea as to why its not relocking/ unlocking
Check the wiring from the bulkhead to the door. They can break in there over time with the door opening and closing
Hello, are all the door locking mechanisms the same for the cars listed?
Thanks
No theu are all different. You need the specific one for your car
@@lifes.projects Thank you
Great video mate - is the process the same for 5 door 2.2SD4 MY2014 Keyless Entry front passenger side door? Thanks
Yes he process is exactly the same. Theres more access on the 5 doors. Take the handle off from the inside too as its much easier the attach the cable
Hi mate do you suggest we take the outside handle off so that all the cables can be done outside on the bench? Then fit the actuator with the handle cables attached? Thank you
Great Video! Was wondering what the product code for the rear doors on a 2013 Evoque would be from Bearmach?
You would be better ringing them with your vehicles vin numbers. There about loads of different types
@@lifes.projects I will do, thank you !
hello. do you know if this will be under land rover warranty? thank you
Yes it should be.
Are you sure its fitted. They use the same handles but not all of them have it unless it was on the spec sheet
@@lifes.projects what spec sheet? It’s in the owners manual that I have that option.
Hi i have the same problem people are saying its harder replacing the one with keyless entry, I'm guessing the one you just done is keyless entry, how easy would you was it was to do
Have you got a link for the part
Its depends. The 3 doors are more difficult. Never really noticed much difference regarding keyless entry but saying that its been a while since ive seen one without keyless entry 🤣.
Yeah I was thinking keyless entry is more of a standard thing if you could find the link for the part would be very grateful
Hi do you know how much to expect to get this fixed?it’s the drivers door that I think has gone, thanks
Around £150
Hi so I have a 2012 Evoque I just want to know when I double lock the car it dosent beep is it broken?
It should do yes. Put the key a distance away from the vehicle and check the doors are locked
Do you have to re code it after fitting the new mechanism
No straight plug and play
I had the same problem on my range rover sport, car not locking. my repair was to take out the small motor in the actuator and buy on E-bay at a fraction of the coat of a new actuator.
Thats good to know. I had a quick look but couldnt find a motor at the time
@@lifes.projects your UTube channel is very informative so keep up the good work. Great to watch.
@@stevenrobinson9600 Thank you very much 👌
What do I do when I cant get the door to open?
@@normanfastlane8942 where are you based?
Sorry guys, i have another question about the kvm in the boot and whats around it, any time i lock/unlock the doors after a few seconds there is a double click sound coming from the kvm, rear fuse box area and im wondering does anyone else have this or know what its about?
Yes thats normal its just the relays. All Evoques do it
@@lifes.projects cheers thats another worry off my mind, i wish you were the machnaic my car dealer used i would have peace of mind, currently i dont haha
Where did you get the part from?
Bearmach
...Tom, this is one of the reasons that I dislike all modern motors of any make....too much electrickery to go wrong....and it usually does!
Oh yes and its only getting worse! Most of the stuff you need diagnostics but some stuff can still be figured out with common sense.
It amazes me how much stuff doesn't work when a fault on something totally different fails!
Modern motors are just a pain 🤣
@@lifes.projects 😂😂😂...and that's why the X type is going to a new home soon!
This is where the motor industry is heading

@@RajSinghKhalsa ...you're not wrong mate!
@@RajSinghKhalsa Garages are having this problem now with the latest cars. Bloody stupid!
@@keithmountaine1 yeah thats very strange. Is it a start/stop battery?
@@lifes.projects apparently so going by the dealers mechanic but myself i wouldnt know
@@keithmountaine1 if you get the reference number off the battery you can ring a motorparts shop and they can cross reference the numbers to see if its the right one for your car.
I’m having this issue with my 2016 Evoque now on the passenger side. They replaced my driver side lock like 2 years ago smh
What was the price
This seems to be the latest problem on my Disco Sport.
Shame not one of the "pro/experienced" people I have spoken to recognised this.
Thank you for getting back to me thank god the doors are locking now so I can deal with the mirrors not going in maybe they don’t go in so I’ll stick with that
great vid but my problem is rear door that didnt lock i activated child lock as grandkids and now wont open at all
It will be the lock thats completely given up. See it regular on VW/ Audi cars. The door car has to be taken off and door lock removed from the inside. Horrible job!
Where are you base please?
Pontefract, West yorkshire have a look at my instagram its easier to contact me
@@lifes.projects Could you please tell me how to contact you, I'm in Leeds and would like the job doing. It's a 14 plate Evoque 5 door. Thanks in advance.
