Gavin, thanks for all the outstanding content! I just paused your video and ordered 47481, the pre painted Super Avante, from Amazon Japan. Didn't know it had been released already! Your videos are great! Cheers.
I'm looking at your wonderful collection. I'm looking forward to assembling Astute 2022 from now on. Thank you for loving Japanese products (^^ ♪ I support your channel.
I've built and bashed mine, very sturdy kit, but if you plan to jump it on speed humps and such, the stock dampers are way too soft. Either go from the 3 hole to 2 hole (or even 1 hole), and 1000cst damper oils, if you are feeling fancy change the red springs to the stock DT03 springs.
I also got confused because of the „missing“ wheel bearings. This kit has a lot of „typical Tamiya“ elements. They tried a lot of new interesting things there, also made some weird stuff, like the servo mounts or air vent for the motor and sponge pieces everywhere including some covers. The motor is also a very tight fit.
Regarding your love for the Super Avante.........perhaps you could get an Astute 2022 body and paint it up as the OG Avante with the OG sticker kit (Obviously the stickers will need adaptation/editing) - In my mind's eye I can see it working. A good project to inspire everyone who feels the same re: Super Avante....
Glad you liked it looks superb but i really think the spur gear setup in the td4/td2 is a big letdown: I really doubt the pinion cover is sealed, i did put more of the foam padding on than what was in the manual but its got to many corners. And it is pretty much a nightmare to swap spur gear or motor. Pinion maybe ok, but spur or motor is really a challange.
Can we get some additional details on the front wheels? Does the axle ride on bearings and the wheel is a hex? Also will you be be upgrading to the aluminum diff nut on this like is needed on the TD4?
Hi Scott. Axel does ride on bearings and the wheel is a hex. I also tried fitting a bearing on the outside of the rim and you can fit one. I guess Tamiya did this so the rim could be used on a 4WD chassis.
Watched Part2 before part 1. Oh this Tamiya is stepping up the game. The lay down front end looks like a vast improvement. I see a bunch of after market in this buggy's future. I'd like to see all the suspension used in another kit with a different chassis that does not have the motor in a box screwed to the belly. I think two things, overheating with the motor in that box. And the cover box would be prone to damage like having the mounting screws stripped out if it took a hard landing. The front and rear suspension tied to a flat/tub chassis and more conventional gearbox would be a great thing. With narrower front arms would that be a good front end for No Prep.
Only just managed to get round to watching this video, I totally agree that the TD2 Astute seems to work so much better than the 4wd Avante version.... yet its difficult to pin-point exactly why? I'm guessing its something to do with the more sleek design of the bodyshell & looking a little less awkward as a result? Having built a few of Tamiya's more recent chassis' including an M-08 Concept you kind of tell that they are from the same design team with similar 'architecture' echoing through... but are also intriguingly different.... which to be fair has always been a Tamiya trait. Does anyone else look at the box-art image on the front & think that the TD2 Astute would look good dressed up as a Striker '2022'?
never was a fan of this astute body... it kinda reminds me of a good looking formula 1 slot car that had the little spoilers in front broken off after you buddy released the throttle so you would fly off the track!
Totally different cars, thats apples and oranges 100%. Hell one has exhaust pipes after all so that should show you how different these two are lol. If you're a track guy the KD is 100% the correct way to go. For fun and for the character, I would go Astute 2022.
The Super Avante TD4 has a plastic chassis. The original Avante had an FRP chassis. What is so "super" about the "Super Avante"? Going from FRP to plastic is a downgrade. That so-called "Super Avante" is at the same level as the Vanquish / VQS. It should be called the "Sub-Avante". The Avante 2011 re-release has a carbon fiber graphite chassis. It should be called the "Super Avante".
I’m tempted. A 13.5 sensored brushless seems like it’d be perfect

Brilliant video, nice work! This kit is growing on me ever so slightly.......getting tempted! 👍👍
I was totally wrong about this one. As a build experience it is classic character Tamiya.
Yay 😊 I have really missed your build videos 😊😊👍👍 fantastic work Gav
LOVE IT!!! I'd have one in a heartbeat, for some of the same reasons I didn't want the TD4.
Nice job! Having a cold? Get well soon.
Prefer it to the TD4, but I'm not sure on all the foam sponge bits
Very well done as usual. Always enjoy and think it's very practical when you point issues you had. That will help klutzes like me.
Wondering how that rwd 911 turbo body on the wall would fit on this rwd buggy with flat mounted front shocks. 911 truggy 🧐

Sound like you got a cold there gav
Does the super astute 2022 use a low profile servo or can you use a regular size servo in it?
low profile

Hey Gavin, what servo did you use, the kit says low profile is needed? Cheers!
Savox or Banggood special, sorry I can’t remember and I’m out of the studio.
Thanks for replying, paused your video, it says SPT44.
Is the steering servo a full size ?
Half
Make this a runner!
No point having it as a shelf queen if its got plenty of space for a brushless haha
Yep it will 100% be a runner. Watch to the end of the second build video and you will see why ;)
How do you know that they designed the td4 first and not the dt2 first. They might of even designed them both together.😋
TD4 pre painted > TD2 pre painted > TD2 > TD4. I find myself owning the worst example 😅, I'll try to sell my td4 at some point
never was a fan of this astute body... it kinda reminds me of a good looking formula 1 slot car that had the little spoilers in front broken off after you buddy released the throttle so you would fly off the track!
I personally thought it looked classy until you added mudguards and decals. Dare I say ferrari, ish.
Can’t justify the price, not when you can get a Schumacher Cougar KD for the same money.

@@RCKickschannel Bloody hell, I’m probably still going to get one. Lol
i like the original Astute much better.
Well thats a vintage classic. I have one so you can find videos on the channel for it :)
