“Question” by SOAD is a masterpiece in my opinion

The entire toxicity record is amazing, the title track and Chop Suey! are some of the most iconic songs from the 2000's

Queen are surely one of many inspirational bands/artists for System of a down. And Serj (lead vocalist) is often compared to Freddy Mercury, but also a lot to Frank Zappa (especially when he goes a bit crazy/whacky), and also to Mike Patton from Faith no more, when we talk about versatility and range.

You can't really go wrong with a System of a down song. If you know one song, you haven't even scratched the surface of thei're repertoire. So many different styles, moods and themes in their music. I think you should try Chop Suey next.

YES!!!!!!! I think most people listen to Chop Suey first. I always introduce them with BYOB. I think BYOB expresses them well. Very artistic band. Great Video. ♥🎼🎸🎹🥁🎤🎶🎶

Excellent review as always. I believe based on this video you would appreciate the lyrics and music of Rage Against the Machine. If desired I would recommend starting with "Bulls on Parade" or "Killing in the Name". As far as SOAD goes, I believe the recommendations that have been given are the next steps on the journey. I will throw and additional shoutout for "Lonely Day", which is a different sound from them.

I thought you'd like these guys! System just grows on you, too. Some bands are fast out of the gate, but by the fifth listen or so, cracks start to show. With SOAD, I've always found most songs get better with repeated exposure. Aerials is a good foot in the door for new exposures, maybe because it's simple but breathtaking. Others have mentioned Toxicity and Chop Suey (Suicide chopped in half), and those are both good picks, along with BYOB (Bring your own bombs, Iraq war). After that, they just have so many good songs you could pretty much pick one at random and it would showcase something new and unique about this band. Thanks for doing this!

Aerials is a very nice song - lots of melody, some heaviness and with great flow to it all. It was my first exposure to the band as well seeing a clip to it on MTV when MTV still played music and was a thing in general... Gosh I'm old... Many SOAD songs are shorter and more erratic than this one, but I would say that each and single one is great in its own way.
As for a suggestion for the next SOAD reaction I suppose that I would go along the well-beaten path - 'Chop Suey' or 'Toxicity' or maybe 'BYOB'. My favourite SOAD song though... I don't even know. Maybe 'Holy Mountains' about the Armenian genocide by Turkey (all four of the band members are ethnic Armenians). Or 'Soldier Side' (three minute long song from 'Hypnotize' - a snippet of it was also used as an intro to 'Mesmerize' with the same name, in fact these two are a double-album released in the same year and Soldier Side is both opening the first one and closing the second one).
And as a non-SOAD recommendations but still with strong social commentary in the lyrics... I think that I will do a thing that is a bit uncharacteristic of a metalhead and suggest a Hardcore band from the US called Rise Against - maybe their 'Prayer of the Refugee', 'Disparity By Design' or 'Hero of War'?

I'm giving my two cents worth to "Holy Mountains" as the best song by SOAD. One of their songs about the armenian genocide. It's hauntingly beautiful and very emotional. But they have many song worth listening to: BYOB, Sugar, Question, Spiders. The list simply goes on and on.
Chris Banks suggested reacting to King;s X but left the song choice open. If you ask me there's actually only one choice for a first introduction to King's X: "Pleiades". The lyrics is only ten lines long but they make an impact! An ode to human imagination, scientific discovery and the fear of those new "heretic" ideas, and also a lament of Giordano Bruno. Great song!

Tbh giving the composition a 6.5 makes no sense to me, and I often feel this way about your “composition” and “production” scores on this channel. By what metric is it only a 6.5? Is it because it doesn’t have an overly complicated composition? If so, that’s a pretty bad way to grade a composition. The dude literally states how he’s impressed that they made such an effective melody and song out of a few simple chords, is that not a prime example example of an excellent composition? Simplicity used effectively like this song qualifies as top composition in my books. It’s incredibly difficult to pull off.

Question: who’s gonna donate some money to this man and get him on the Avenged Sevenfold train? I’m tired of the Music Composition getting weak scores. My suggestion.. Save Me by Avenged Sevenfold

If you want another Opeth song, I recommend a fair judgement. Another one with no guterals, a little longer than burden and more similar to their signature sound.

Harlequin forest is a better choice. Full range of their composition and style.
