Thanks for sharing. I'd suggest that anyone with a new pack limit their upgrades to ones that don't alter the pack (cutting, sewing, etc.), so they may return the pack if it is not right for them. Check your local hiking store for various new sew clips such as the Siamese Slik Clip.

Adding shock cord is definitely a great way to add lighter weight pieces of kit/clothing to the exterior.
I use Maxpedition dump pouches on the hip belt for the same reasons as you stated.
I took your earlier advice and bought Beeze pack ghillie cover in ATACS-IX for my go-to pack (Eberlestock Halftrack).

The one thing about that setup is you can't take super heavy items and secure them. Full ammo cans, quartered up deer, broken m240b. A framed pack is heavier but you always have the capability to take almost anything you want as you go and in SHTF that's a big deal.

Have you tried to roll and bend like civil war soldiers used to pack all fabric gear items, only that instead of over the shoulder like them, do it over the back pack and attached on the sides...? I did it with tents, hammocks, ponchos, floors, tarps, etc... with great results.
The pros of that are :
    1. What goes outside in a camping, that can be wet and dirty remains outside, and eventually keeps on drying.
    2. Enlarges the useful life of each fabric item by not wrapping or folding, and so provoking outworn spots like in maps.
    3. Lives more room into the back pack.
    4. Takes less time and effort to pack and unpack and camp and so on.
    5. Makes easy reaching all those items (that I mentioned before) that you may need fast when stars raining suddenly, without haveing to open the pack.
Cheers dude... Martin from Argentina by the way...🇦🇷

You have to hand restitch it on the inside on the seam sewing with strong thread and ultra fine doubled at least stitching .
      Or
Pinch it from the outside and sew the strap /webbing directly into the fabric of the backpack.
It sounds complicated but it's pretty simple but you need to be an excellent skilled true long term survivalist gear repair and fabricator level of hand sewer to make it hold up and last but if you do it properly it will be better then I was when it was brand new is a guarantee. Good luck. I just redid a bunch on my travel backpack I live out of it took hours and hours to do it all INSANE but that's my life 😂
