Drawstring Cord Locks
Dang! Finally I know how it's called in English.
Now if only I knew how it's call in my native Czech ... LOL
Combination of shock cord (bungees 😂) and nylon straps /dura flex buckles are a must. Have it in all my packs. 👍🏽
Nice hack, looks good!
They are called "Cord Locks" 👍
bob_mosavo : Can You purchase Cord Locks and Shot Cord anywhere besides on line?
@@JohnRodriguez-si9si Any sewing store or fabric store should carry cord locks and shock cord 🙂
The problem, from many miles of backpacking, is that your item on the bottom tends to slide out one side. I think it's because all the real pressure to retain the item is within that center few inches of the cords crossing point. Once it jiggles off center it's just a matter of time before it liberates itself. Several times I was the clean-up guy on the trail, picking up jackets and sleeping pads other hikers didn't even realize they had lost.
Agree. Loops for one inch webbing is preferable for me on the bottom of the bag. With shock cord, you can also at least add a second layer, that would create the "x" crossings (the retaining pressure is really just there) where the first layer have the empty spaces, creating more of a mesh pattern. Obviously, not possible when you just have just one "x" on the bottom, but in the bag front in the video it is possible. Anyway, if on some bag is a thing attached "around somewhere", I tend to use more heavier-duty bungee cords, than a shock cords. Then you already have something to readily use for your poncho or tarp shelter quick setup. Shock cord is not usable for that - just for the wet rain jacket.
@@phh2400 Are they thicker than normal shock cords?
We had to double back cause one guy lost his brand new jacket, we were in some thick bush on an island that we had to cut our way around. Definitely not fun.
@@jackchan3235 Yes, like double or triple or even quadruple. Usually with a metal hooks on both ends. Stuff you use to secure things in the back of the car, rated like 30-50kg. google "bungee cords". When you you release them in the night from the tarp, it is sometimes good to be prepared that they may hit you with that metal end - so do not use it in the eye level or step next to the tree that they hit you in the back :)
Smart. Never thought of this mod. Will be doing!

Marine coyote is the best color
Have you ever tried using gutted 550 cord as an outer liner for your thinner shock cord, to possibly prevent all of the shredding you were experiencing ???
Just an idea...
Keep up the great work !!!
Thin shockcoard can be really flimsy. Too thick will not go through the cord lock. It would be helpful to give some specs on what is the largest that will go through most cord locks.
Absolutely Agree on this mod .I have been looking at putting a USMC ILME lid on some packs to act as a bevertail expansion but also a large thin pocket.
Did this on a cheap pack the other day.
It's easy but make sure you get toggles that fit the guage cordage you use. Had to make a second trip to hobby lobby sewing section to buy bigger toggles.
Just purchased some gear from Full Tang Tactical thanks to your recommendation, how well would you say the Vertx MPH Sub Holster has held up for you? Thinking of purchasing that next.
The vertx holster is working extremely well. I would definitely recommend it for the kit bag.
Where did you learn this? I love how brilliant and simple this improvement makes to gear and load.
Thank you for sharing this with us!
I couldn't exactly pinpoint a time or location I learned this but I've used it for awhile. Just got around to sharing it lol.
Great idea!
Wish my LBT 14L daypack had attachment points... It's just too slick...
If you really wanted to, you could use the speedy sticher and add some attachments yourself. Depending on how motivated you are.

For sure.
But thanks for that simple yet effective tip!
I was going to add bottom straps to a couple of my packs by using adjustable buckles and tri glides/ladder locks, but this is cheaper, takes one minute plus color mismatch is not as noticeable this way.
Many packs do not have the attachment points for this on the bottom, but it may work on the sides, back or top of the pack as well when option are limited. Turn a regular school bag into an external Alice pack if you dare!
Tell me you just watched Dose of Dirt's video w/o telling me.
simple genius foresight..
Did you mean 1/4 inch cord in the description? Currently states 1/8 inch.
Love your videos!
Great idea!
550 cord square knots tight woven hitched over (same way you make “cobra stitch” bracelets) can work as a field expedient cord lock if you lose or break one for shock cord or drawstrings.
Good idea, always have an issue with where to put my jacket. Its too big to put inside, cold weather is fine because im wearing it. Its the storage ats an issue.
What was the chest rig in the first video insert ?

Great idea. I can probably do something similar to my haversack and assaulted pack
How’s the new iray rh25?
I'm still testing it but it's preforming better than expected. I'll have a review on it later in the year.
Man I swear we are on the same wavelength sometimes with our thinking 🤣. I just did this maybe 4 weeks ago? I wanted a convenient way to strap my rifle to the outside of my pack so it doesn't take up half the space on the inside. Shock cord to the rescue!
securing a gun by shock cord, that's what I call optimism. Check out hunting bags setups, at least for inspiration.
@@phh2400 yes I've seen these eberlestock bags with the rifle scabbards I know what you're talking about. A very good solution. I failed to mention I use a 1 inch webbing with a buckle in the middle to secure it, shock cord on the bottom around the stock and shock cord around the top. I can shake the heck out of the backpack and it doesn't move I've tested it a lot off trail and it stays put. Helps that I have a shorter rifle, it works great with my tavor but anything like a full length rifle it gets a little off-center and too much weight pulls backwards so I've found a system that works for me. Without buying a new $400 backpack it works for me!
@@DIYDad1 Nice :) Like I have written in another comment, 1 inch webbing or bungee cords :) little envy of tavor. but got aug.
@@phh2400 bullpups ftw!
