I remember playing this game back when I was a kid, my dad thought I'm just too young to figure out M&K steering but after he played it himself, he bought some cheap but proper joystick. Never finished it but I had a lot of fun flying around.
Yeah, though the fixes for widescreen monitors and modern OS exist, this game still have some issues and will refuse to run under certain conditions. I figured out it doesn't like multi-monitor setups, and also it is advisable to restart your machine after several subsequent missions, otherwise the game speed will gradualy slowdown or speed up.
7:47 gave me a small heart attack lmao! If the game ever gets ported to gog or something I might pick it up. Cool lp, will recommend Heroes of the Pacific if you've never played it.
The voice acting in this game is top notch! I love the feeling of comradery and size of the crew. In High Road to Revenge it felt like there were only like 3-4 Fortune Hunters. This sounds like 8+.
My dad used to play this a lot when I was a kid, I introduced him to War Thunder today as an alternative, but he said it was too difficult 😢 Hope I can get crimson skies to run on the PC
Excellent walkthrough, thanks for uploading this so I can experience one of my childhood gems once more! Also hot damn did you make short work of mission 17 - I remember struggling with that one like crazy back in the days. :)
So for anyone hopping on there are fixes available online to get this working on modern machines- I was having a nightmare of a time playing the game, particularly by around The Great Plane Robbery till I realised that the speed of the game is tied to the frame rate. The only way I've found to consistantly get that to a reasonable place to play is to adjust the refresh rate of the monitor your playing the game on. So do that and then it should work fine! (Just remember to change it back when you're done)
I was not surprised to find out this game was made by the same devs who made Mechwarrior 3. The briefing room loading screen. The combat. The voice acting. Fuck man, I wish there was a sequel to this. The one on the xbox is okay, but I prefer this style of gameplay. It feels like the closest we can get to an Ace Combat game but set in 1930s. Got it working on windows 10, took a bit but it runs smooth.
41:53 can't believe I missed that secret, all this time XD. Though I were just a kid back then, who didn't know how to change graphics settings. I mean, enough to actually notice it if I paid attention.
What do you mean you cant fly it with the mouse? I always used the mouse back then... All you need to do is bump the sensitivity really high, then be really gentle with the mouse. Modern mouses should make that way easier than an early optical or ball mouse.
@@Lajos_Kelemen yes, but the controls were smooth and responsive, unlike the default mouse, where you can barely control the plane due to the enormous dead zones.

This was installed from disk image, I think it doesn't matter in the end. You need to use either csfix or dgvoodoo 2 to run it, also you would need fixed .exe for 16:9 aspect ratio. Just look up Crimson Skies page on pcgamingwiki, all links are there.
I had no idea this game could be played on a modern computer. However, the mouse is horrid. What is this "Flightstick emulator" people are talking about? I tried the Xbox game pad, but it's only slightly better.
@@wrecklass it's a software and drivers, which would trick the game, that you have a flightstick. It allows you to play those old flight simulators, which lacks mouse support or have a problems with it.

The voice acting, the details and the photos, the story is amazing. I hadn't notice that it was this intricate when I was a kid.
the graphics were sick too. i remember marvelling at the propeller animation.

well .70cal is just about 18mm, so even smaller than the first autocannons mounted on aircraft in WW2 (20mm cannons).

I immediately got the full game after playing the demo and it can be fun but some missions are “oh bloody hell”.
